"The Aileè Commander, Commander Haldis has called his forces in. War is approaching and something had pushed them into Ouiswell. The Warriors are quartering all across the country, they have been staying at The Outer wall for so many centuries that most of their property has been auctioned away. I've spoken with some individuals and they consider that their home now. Many of their families have relocated there after the last war." Professor Pine has been telling everything he learned about the warriors quartering here, apparently, nearly every house, mortal and far, was occupied with at least two warriors, sometimes more.
He assumed that spirits were roaming The Outer Wall wreaking havoc on the men, tormenting their sleep with horror-invoked nightmares. Spirits that were a part of The Depraved Forest.
Which housed thousands of different creatures, they were free to roam wherever they please but the beast normally stay in the forest feasting on its animals and whoever was foolish enough to travel there.
My fingers slam down on the typewriter keys roughly with how quickly Professor Pine was speaking. The only good thing that came from this forced job was that I learned a lot about Fae history.
History that people had to pay good money to learn in his classroom. He was planning to write a history book and needed me to jot down all of his rambling thoughts before he started the actual writing process.
Some key points I had kept close in my head were that the last war was catastrophic, Ouiswell didn't use to be sheltered by walls and it was three times as large. Its citizens could travel all over the world without consequence.
That was until The Iluna Pair. They were lovers, two halves of the same soul that held darkness close to their hearts.
Their power was unlike anything anyone had ever seen. Some speculate that they were a different breed all on their own.
After all the textbooks that Professor Pine had read there was only one sentence that hinted at their existence until recent affairs. The text dated back thousands upon thousands of years. Others think they were two of the few gods left on the planet. Making them kin to Milady.
The female of the Iluna pair was said to have teller abilities. Instead of having a higher being giving her random visions, she used her power to listen to everyone everywhere. When something happen she knew making it incredibly hard to act against her.
From what the Professor knew, their daughter was kidnapped before she suffered a horrible death at the hands of a Fae.
Something snapped inside of them. They ravished city upon city of fae kinds, killing innocent people.
Thousands of them. In the process, they used their powers to control the beast that lay dormant in The Depraved Forest. Using them to tear down any defense that the Fae could conjure.
That was until The First King established Ouiswell bound with magic so ancient that even The Iluna Pair couldn't break it.
The large number of beasts beating against the wall overwhelmed it letting a few sneak in at a time risking the life of all the creatures residing in them.
The King stood in front of the wall and killed every last one of them. Saving the city and scaring the rest of the beast back into their hiding. The Iluna pair hasn't been seen since that last battle. No one knows for sure what happened to them.
Whatever forces were causing the spirits to grow restless couldn't be good.
"I don't even know why I pay you. You learn more than my students do." Professor Pine had grown more bearable lately. He seemed to grow a soft spot for me, probably because I analyse his points on the paper and make notes about what would be good to start with.
"It's just my bonus, for the amazing job that I do." He scoffs and gives me a pointed look.
"Yeah, when your not about to fall out of your chair from exhaustion." I smile sheepishly at him as I get the papers ready for him to review, being sure to leave little notes along the edge. "Do you have any warriors quartering with you?"
"Yes. Three." I could tell he wanted to know more about them. His fascination peaked in his gaze and if it meant staying on the man's good side I didn't mind sharing a few details.
"Bolt. Oberon and The General." His eyebrows rose, jaw slack, eyes as if he was stunned by lightning. I paused with the notes curious about what had him so shaken.
"Girl, do you have any idea?" He stood from his chair and laughed loudly. "The General. That is The Commander. I take personal offense that you didn't at least pick up that much from my book thus far."
"The Commander? Commander Alieè. Haldis? As in The First King's son?" I imagined my reaction was similar to his a few seconds ago.
"Yes!" His yell was full of excitement and astonishment. His emotions mimicking that of humans, Faes tended not to show as much emotion as humans did but as I stared at the professor that same sort of kindled energy was flickering in his eyes.
"Excuse me while I go research. I expect details tomorrow." He looked at me with a serious gaze and I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped me. I had never seen a Fae act as he did.
I finished rather quickly and began the walk home. The pathway was so familiar now that I didn't even second glance at the scenery.
The only thing catching my attention was the birds chirping happily up above.
"Let me go!" The voice was that of a female and my head snapped to it as it echoes out of the forest to my left.
"Stop thrashing or I'm going to smack you." A deep male voice followed behind hers. My heart instantly began to beat wildly as I took off toward the assault that was happening.
My hands shook and shook but I didn't stop my trek through the woods to stop whatever was going on.
Roots tripped me at every turn but I pushed forward not caring that my only gown left was being torn and stained along the ends.
The birds had moved to a less noisy location leaving the silent forest beckoning me further in.
No animals scurried as if they had long since fled. The sun was setting and I prayed to whoever was listening that I was out of these woods before pitch black took over.
Even if the nights in summer were shorter, one minute was too long.
Coming into view was a Fae woman being crowded by a much larger Fae man.
Her fancy gown tore across the front and her once neat brown hair lay in knots along her exposed shoulder.
"Leave me be!" She shrieked and I knew instantly that the tall broody male wasn't her lover.
What do I do?
Use it.
Her voice soft as rain flattering against leafs echoed through my head. Instantly blue light lit my palms and a feeling grew deep in my chest.
Rage.
Protect her.
My fingers began sapping against each other and I grew weary. Where was this coming from?
Fear.
Protect her.
Milady spoke to me softly and I knew she didn't want this female to suffer whatever fate this man had for her.
I took the rage I felt at seeing her so vulnerable and the fear I felt from this unknown power surging through me to make those zaps of power flow from me and hit its target in the mans back.
He drew up in pain before falling over. Dead.
I can't go back.
