It has been a month since I recovered my sense of sight.
Life went on to a new routine for me. Well, a routine not for me per se. I was just doing my business as usual.
You know, grinding my magic.
No, the routine I was talking about was my family.
It went like this...
First thing in the morning, after the maid came and tidied up the room, opened the window to air it out, and changed my clothes, Father would come to check up on me.
He was saying something, but I was not that good at reading lips, you see...So I blew some breeze and blinked at him to assure him I was just fine and dandy.
The visit ended with him patting me on the head before giving out some instructions to the maid.
And then, it would be just in time for breakfast.
Now, let's take a while to talk about the process of my eating condition here for a bit.
Boy, I was so shocked seeing how they fed me for the very first time.
It was literally like they were trying to feed a corpse. Could you imagine what that would look like? Well, I've seen it with my own eyes.
All I could say was, it ain't pretty...
To be fair, I did try to move my upper body to make the job easier. Grab the spoon, open my mouth, swallow, and stuff like that.
But I couldn't. I just couldn't, no matter what I do. It was like my brain was confused about what I was trying to do because I couldn't feel anything in my body.
Anyway, that's that.
So, I couldn't move my body, right? Did I give up? Heck, no!
Like the spoilt young master that I was, I tried again with the help of my new best friend.
Magic.
Did I succeed? Well, not really. I couldn't even clear the first hurdle before giving up.
Let me tell you the story before anyone judge me. Imagine yourself in the shoes of the maid that attended to me. Now your job was to make absolutely sure that the straw to feed me was properly entering the right lane to my stomach and not my lungs. Oh, yeah, they fed me by using straws since I couldn't swallow. And the same with water.
It may sound simple but it was a very delicate process, using magic and all that. Truly, hats off to this beautiful maid. I would make sure to get her name later when I could.
Anyway, let's move on to where my poor attempt to help her came into question.
So I saw her prepping the straw, yes? And when it was just inches away from me, I used magic to open my mouth. It couldn't hurt to try and make her job a little bit easier, I thought.
But here's the thing...
Imagine a dude who could only move his eyes staring at you while you are trying to put a straw inside of him suddenly opened his mouth mechanically while you're doing that. You know, like how those demonic dolls you see in horror movies open their mouth.
Obviously, the maid visibly jerked in response. Nah, I believe she yelped in surprise, judging by how wide her mouth was. Then again, maybe it wasn't as creepy as I thought it would be since I couldn't exactly see how it looked for myself. But since the reaction was that extreme, I guess it was safe to say the scene was bordering surprising and creepy...
Though I was thankful that she was able to control herself well to not stab my freaking eyes with the gold straw.
Yeah, you heard that right. It was a gold straw...
So, anyhow, that was the thing about me and eating. I gave up trying to open my mouth using magic again ever since. I guessed it left a really distasteful experience for the maid because she kept waiting and anticipating something out of me when she was holding the straw.
She didn't look that old, but who could tell for sure that I wouldn't give her a minor heart attack if I kept doing it?
Okay, enough with the side stories. Let's get back to the point.
After breakfast, Mother and sister would come and spend most of their day here.
Mother liked to spend her time talking to me. She kept caressing my head and tucked me in once in a while, fully knowing I couldn't even move to mess the blanket in the first place.
She would leave and come again, back and forth a couple of times after lunch. Her times of arrival were easily monitored by how the maid would bring fresh tea and desserts into the room.
Sister, on the other hand, only left once after lunch and then came back after some time while always doing something in my room afterward.
Sometimes, she brought in embroidery, a book, and a violin. Sometimes she even danced.
It looked like homework...Yeah, she was totally doing her homework in my room. But since Mother didn't reprimand her, I guess there was no problem at all.
Well, thanks to that, it was hardly boring since she always showed and explained what she was doing. I couldn't understand shit, but it was refreshing to see her doing something different day by day.
Mother and sister would stay until dinner before leaving the room reluctantly every time.
I figured maybe they were having family dinner in the hall somewhere since they never stayed in the room when I was eating. Seeing how they acted every day, I doubt they were leaving me out on purpose.
After dinner, they would find and bid me goodnight. My sister usually pranced around and only stopped when I used magic to blow a breeze to her a couple of times.
Mother, as usual, kept on checking and tucking the blanket time after time and left after kissing me on the forehead.
Father always came around the time when the maid closed the window where I could see the world outside. He came and talked for a while with the maid and then spent some time sitting and just looking at me.
Silently...
As if he was telling me the story of his day by only his gaze.
It was odd because, in my head, it should've been awkward as hell. Keeping prolonged eye contact without any valid context whatsoever.
But it was not. Maybe it was because we didn't need to make any small talk, so it was less awkward...
I didn't know. I never had any parents.
I couldn't judge for sure what this phenomenon was.
One thing I knew was that, for now, I was curious about it.
And so another mundane day ended with Father's hand gently cupping my cheek.
