Micah's heart drops into the knots in her stomach. She sucks in a lungful of air and tries to calm down her blazing lungs.
Erin's long fingers grip Micah's shoulders and pull her up from the floor. The sound of her breathing fills up the room in an agonizing way as Erin reaches toward and smoothens her hair.
"Calm down, little girl. This won't be that bad." Erin whispers. "But only if you accept it. Accept the reality. "
An ugly sob breaks through Micah's trembling lips as her unsteady fingers clutch the front of Erin's shirt. "Why me? What did I ever do to you?"
Something flashes in Erin's green orbs but she is quick to shake it away. The wicked grin that she holds all this time dies down on her lips as she removes Micah's hand from her shirt.
With a final glance at Micah, Erin disappears through the doors. To get the stranger downstairs.
Micah shuts her eyes tightly and the horror of death burns her eyelids.
A push to her shoulder makes her lift her eyes to Ezline, the woman stares at her with disgust that Micah doesn't know the reason for.
"This is exactly why I'm shipping you off." Ezline snarls at her. "You have this special ability to have Alphas swooning over you. But not my daughter. I won't let her have you. She deserves better."
Micah scoffs, "And I know I deserve better too."
Her fingers come to clutch Micah's jaw again but then she fists her palm in mid-air as if the glare of Erin suddenly burns her memory.
"Come to my room. You need to get ready." Ezline says instead.
"I won't. Let them see me like this."
Just as Ezline charges at Micah again, Erin's growl slashes through the air. She stands at the doorway with a middle-aged woman with long red hair that reaches past her bum. Definitely an omega.
They both approach Micah as if she is their prey waiting to be devoured. The Omega's eyes are drinking her in wholly. She doesn't show any sign of horror when she stares at Micah, her face as detached as a stone. Erin must have already mentioned about Micah's hair on their way here.
Micah bares her fangs at the woman as she keeps coming close. But Micah's desperate try to scare the stranger away only made her scoff.
"You already think you are an Alpha, huh?" She asks her, eyes scrutinizing her hair.
"As you said, she's still pretty. But I don't think we're gonna take in any omega who doesn't look like one." She says to Erin. Micah feels the heat of hope flickers inside her, maybe her plan will work. But she doesn't dare to hope too much.
Micah cringes at the gasp Ezline let out. "It's just a one-time thing, she's gonna die anyway. You can cut down the money a little if you want. But please don't go without her." She begs.
Micah feels disgust crawling under her skin like some creepy insects. She clutches her jaw so tightly that she is afraid that she will break her teeth.
"I'm not sure she will get chosen." The Omega stares at Micah for a long beat and then she adds, "Maybe I would take her with me, but I can't promise anything."
Micah's breath caught in her chest, more tears welling up in her eyes as she saw Ezline's face brightening up like the daylight. How can a person's soul be so dark? How do they dwell with darkness creeping through their veins?
"Dress her up." The redhead orders.
Ezline rushes to Micah's side but she pushes her away harshly, snarling at her. "No! I'm not going anywhere!"
Ezline acts like she didn't hear Micah's protest and goes at her again.
"Leave her. I will dress her up." Erin walks to Micah and the girl bit down another scream. Tears stream down her cheek when she breathes in Erin's smoky scent, her omega curling inside her submissively. She hates Erin so much that it physically pains her.
"Come omega." Her tone makes the hair on Micah's body rise. Erin takes Micah's shivering hands in hers and walks her out of the room to her mother's.
Now she'll dress Micah up for her death.
