Micah stares at her reflection in the mirror. She doesn't look like her at all. She looks like some doll, eyes void of light. The reality has already punched Mycah in the gut and sucked out the life in her. She knows she stands no chance now.
Erin's fingers gently tug her hair strands behind her ear. She had cut it neatly and given it some shape. What Micah did with the blade was some funny business. People would have laughed at her face if she went out looking like that. And most importantly they don't want Micah like that for the prince. Even if it's just for a night.
A voice in Micah's head screams at her to run away. Away from this hell hole. But a part of her knows how it's gonna end up. How Erin would hunt her down. Not as if she can move a finger when Erin's alpha takes over let alone flee from here. She is just so powerless.
So she sits there. Like a doll.
"You are all done, pretty girl," Erin whispers to Micah's ear. Erin's warm breath burns her ear, yet she stays motionless.
Erin kept talking to Micah the whole time she dressed her up. But no words find their way out of Micah's mouth in response. However, that doesn't stop Erin from trying.
"Micha, I don't think you will die." Now she somehow manages to lure Micah with her words. Her eyes lock with Erin's in the mirror.
"I have this feeling that you won't die." Erin repeats.
A humorless chuckle slips through Micah's lips, "Is that you trying to give me some good words before I die?"
Micah watches her lips curl into a grin. "No."
She anticipated something more than that single curt word. But nothing comes after.
Erin slips through the door, leaving Micah behind with the horror that keeps freezing the blood in her veins.
Micah doesn't know how long she sits there staring out of the window and counting the breath she takes in. She lost both the count and the track of time.
The creak of the door announces the presence of that redhead Omega who'll walk Micah to her end. The omega steps toward her and stares into her eyes, a smile blooming on her lips. Micah wonders how she can smile at a girl who has nothing left for her, but then again she might have been doing this work for quite a while. She might be used to it.
A sudden rush of anger heats Micah's face. Disgust for that heartless prince making her skin crawl. How many lives did he take for some mere relief of pain and the craving for pleasure? She wonders if she can end this thing here and be the last one to lose their life for him.
"I think we should leave now." The redhead announces in a chirpy tone which makes Micah's jaw clench.
She held out her hand for Micah, "I'm Heys, the head omega in Ezyr Palace. I'm here to take you there." She grins as if the two of them had just met at this moment. "Don't be scared, girl. This might be a heavenly way to die."
Micah shoves down the irresistible urge to spit on her face and sit there like she couldn't hear her words or see the hand she reached out for her to take.
Clearing her throat, she retreats her hand and says "Ezline, take her downstairs. I don't have any more time to waste here. The other girls need to be picked up too."
Micah's heart clutches at that and her throat turns into a desert.
She is gonna die.
She barely has hours left for her.
Ezline guides Micah down as she continuously rambles to her, but she can't make out any of the words the woman says. The scenarios play in her head like a horror movie making her dizzy as she takes each step out.
Heys walk straight out and get in the carriage that is parked in front of their home. "Go. Go and get a piece of The Prince before you die." Ezline says as she pushes Micah forward. A sick smile on her face as she watches the girl with her cruel eyes.
Micah's palm strikes her cheek with a loud noise. Ezline gasps as she stares at her in horror. Her fingers run to the mark Micah leaves on her cheeks as if she's too stunned to say or do anything.
"I hope you die," Micah tells her, angry tears wet her cheeks as she rushes to the carriage.
"Micha!" A little girl's loud happy voice hits her ears and shatters her heart into pieces instantly. She turns around to see Noya standing across the lawn, a smile so bright illuminating her small face beautifully. Her tiny dress is full of dirt. She must have been returning home after playing with the other pups. Micah feels her lips curling into a wet smile.
"Where are you going?" She calls out, "Do you know, my Sia gave birth this morning? Mommy said it was a girl. Don't you wanna see?" Innocence drips through her words and what is Micah supposed to say? That she is gonna die? That she is never gonna be able to see her or her newly born lamb?
Tears blur Micah's vision as she calls out to the little girl, a tremor in her voice, "I will visit soon, Noya. I love you."
She hears the girl yelling 'I love you too' as she steps inside the carriage.
As the carriage speeds through the neighborhood, Micah's entire life flashes through her mind. Dark and colorful memories that bring tears to her eyes dances inside her head with heavy steps. Her fingers clutch the dress she wore in a death grip as if it will somehow ease her aching heart.
Even though she was never treated well in Ezline's house, even though she despised living there with them, she loves this village. loves the weather, loves the smell and sound of this place. She has so many memories of her mother here. For Micah, this place smells like her mother, feels like her mother. Every piece of this village reminds her of her mother.
The sudden halt of the carriage breaks her trance. "The other two girls are from here," Heys tells Micah.
"How many does your Prince need?" Micah asks, venom dripping through her voice.
Heys pretends to ignore Micah's malice and answers in a calm voice. "He's still very young. Only turned nineteen last week. So three omega will be enough. The count will increase in the future, though."
Micah shut her eyes and sucks in a lung full of air. Maybe she should kill him before he grows into a monster.
She didn't notice Heys slipping out of the carriage until she came back with two girls with long raven hair and a small smile on their lips. They silently sit beside Micah, not bothering to acknowledge her existence. They don't seem to fight it like Micah does. They seem so calm. For a moment she wonders if they don't know the curse the prince has. But then she heard one of the girls say, "I have this feeling that I would be his fated one."
And Micah wishes that girl would be the fated one for the Prince, because she sounds so…hopeful.
