Chapter 7 - Haides

"To Plouton [Haides]. Plouton, magnanimous, whose realms profound are fixed beneath the firm and solid ground, in the Tartarean plains remote from sight, and wrapt forever in the depths of night. Zeus Khthonios (of the Underworld), thy sacred ear incline, and please accept these sacred rites divine. Earth's keys to thee, illustrious king, belong, its secret gates unlocking, deep and strong. 'Tis thine abundant annual fruits to bear, for needy mortals, are thy constant care. To thee, great king, all sovereign earth assigned, the seat of gods and basis of mankind. Thy throne is fixed in Haides' dismal plains, distant, unknown to the rest, where darkness reigns; Where, destitute of breath, pale spectres dwell, in endless, dire, inexorable hell; and in dread Akheron, whose depths obscure, earth's stable roots eternally secure. O mighty Daimon, whose decision dread, the future fate determines of the dead, with Demeter's girl [Persephone] captive, through grassy plains, drawn in a four-yoked car with loosened reins, rapt over the deep, impelled by love, you flew till Eleusinia's city rose to view: there, in a wondrous cave obscure and deep, the sacred maid secure from the search you keep, the cave of Atthis, whose wide gates display an entrance to the kingdoms void of day. Of works unseen and seen thy power alone to be the great dispending source is known. All-ruling, holy God, with glory bright, thee sacred poets and their hymns delight, propitious to thy mystics' works incline, rejoicing come, for holy rites are thine."

-Orphic Hymn to Haides

---------------------

As the weeks passed as the Golden Council worked towards making the kingdom of Hellas a better place for their mortal subjects their queen went into labour once more. Kronos and Rhea were on their way to the dining hall for lunch and as Kronos opened the door for Rhea to go through, he heard the sound of a liquid hitting the floor.

Having been through this already, Kronos had already learnt the best course of actions and had made sure that Leto was on standby and near for this situation. He immediately took her up and rushed her to the labour room.

She began to shiver unrelentingly, feeling cold to the touch. Kronos simply made a cut in space-time and found himself in the labour room. He laid her down on the bed as Leto rushed to tend to her. As Rhea begins to give birth to Hades, she feels a profound chill emanating from within her. It's an icy sensation that penetrated her very core, causing her body to tremble even more.

Kronos was always worried every time she went through labour. The effects their children had on her body were astounding, yet dangerous if taken too far. Yet he trusted that his wife could push through and get through this unharmed.

The hours passed as he watched and waited as his wife was pushing their son out. When Helios was halfway through his journey and the sun was at its brightest was when she gave one last push, causing Haides to first emerge in this world as she entered the embrace of Hypnos.

The moment he entered the world, there was a sudden stillness in the air and the entirety of Hellas became shrouded in darkness, as if all light had been sucked away. This set of several chain reactions as several primordial beings turned their sights on the boy the moment he entered the world.

A lady with pale skin and dark long, flowing hair that cascades down her back in a dress the colour of the night sky with miniature stars across her dress appeared within the labour room. Following her was a man with skin the same shade, wearing a toga made out of pure darkness, who wrapped his arm around her waist. His face was hidden by darkness and the place where his eyes would be were replaced by two glowing orbs. Charon came soon after, followed by another pale skinned man with a youthful and serene figure appeared. His long, flowing hair was a myriad of colour, ranging from silver, blue, and black, with white and delicate wings made of owl feathers.

Kronos stood in shock as many more beings that he knew were related to the Underworld appeared. Leto immediately kneeled with her entire body, castrating towards them before she fainted from their mere presence. The man dressed in darkness began to speak, a subtle, unsettling undertone to his voice as he pointed at Haides.

"Lord Kronos, it appears the time has come. The chosen king has been born."

His voice was measured, conveying a sense of ancient knowledge and power. Kronos understood the words of Erebus instantly, but he acted confused for fear they learn his secret.

"Lord Erebus, what do you mean? How is my son this chosen king? He will be my heir, yes, but it appears you mean something else."

Erebus seemingly chuckled, a sound that was haunting to the ears.

"The Underworld, since its creation, has been without a king, but it had been echoed throughout the cosmos that the Underworld's chosen king will bring darkness on the day of his birth and your son did just that. He can no longer be your heir, for he is heir to the throne of the Underworld and that it is the only throne he shall sit on. If he becomes king of elsewhere, he shall be exiled from the Underworld by the Underworld itself and he'll feel an emptiness within him that will weaken him. We come only to see him and tell you of his destiny, and that has finished. Now we will take our leave."

As he finished, they all disappeared from the room and not long after Hellas went back to normal. A few seconds passed before Kronos let a deep rumble of laughter at the situation that just took place. He calmed down before he walked to the side of his sleeping wife, gently taking up his son. His hair was as dark as the shadows of Erebus, and his eyes were as white as snow. Kronos smiled as he looked at his son.

"Your name shall be Haides. My little dark king."

Haides giggled at the sound of his name, giving a big smile to his father as he fell asleep.
