Asher
Brenton
The pearl necklace dangled in front of me from the palm of my hand to the air as it swayed across my eyes, the pinkish hearts sparkled and I recalled the way her eyes lightened up when I gave it to her.
She used to keep it around her neck even when it didn't match what she wore. Her radiant blonde curls danged to her waist, her fairy-like eyes smiled kindly at everyone with her favorite short blue dress that stopped above her knees.
That was until the cause of her death was the first letter between the hearts. I squeezed my hand around it, and craved for my revenge as my indignation simmered. His death would only be under my hands.
The bell called and I returned to earth. In a haste, I shoved the necklace in my bag when Leslie sat beside me at the cafeteria, this time without his posse.
"Hey, Ash. How's life?" He grinned crazily at me, his head on his joined knuckles.
I didn't reply to the delusional guy, my back was to him and the thought of going out now to Vera sounded even tempting.
"Never mind, playing nice guy with you was my least favorite thing to do. Listen up here freak, don't even think about going to the match."
I faced him again to see what he would answer.
"Or what?"
A hint of shock fleeted across his eyes before he masked it. He stood up and neared me, his hair matted against his forehead with a cheshire grin.
"Averly."
He put a distance with crossed arms and a sly smirk, his eyes looked up at me in mockery.
I shrugged carelessly at him. He anticipated my reaction, but he got nothing in return. I studied Leslie for years, he was all bark no bite just like Jocelyn. They just wanted a good, strong front without any actions.
"Do what you have to do then."
And I was going to do what I have to do to him.
The plan had to be implemented tonight and I couldn't wait as I walked away from the pitiful guy.
Narrow hallway, lockers everywhere, Kalina β she was right there in front of her locker as she looked uncomfortable with the events group, the grayish-eyed brunette kept silent as the others chatted animatedly, but then her eyes looked my way and I shifted my gaze to my locker.
I had to do everything stealthily or my revenge wouldn't go as smooth. I had calculated everything ever since my twin was murdered in cold blood. That meant no talking, no looking, and no traces whatsoever.
What if that girl knew?
I couldn't risk that, so I had to distract her with her sister.
The buses to Komitas Avenue, where Vera's place was situated between enormous complex with houses and villas, was about to arrive in a minute. I was going to visit Vera and tell her everything about Leslie. Kalina was a red line for Vera, and I witnessed that when she got tripped by another guy in school and Vera busted his face in a span of two minutes.
But I also wouldn't include her. All I needed was myself and what I developed for a long time.
The snow piles were on the sides of the stairs, the icicles as sharp and could hurt people if they dropped down and crashed, just like I was to Leslie. At the right time.
Fuck, we had him in our house. We were the family that he never had. That rapist prick.
My fingertips dug into my palms as I tried to regain my gravity. I had been living with this torment for as long, but it was about to end. The lies, the untold truths, and the ruins of my sister was not for nothing.
The bus honked for the students that lined up. The burly driver with an unshaved beard had a sneer on his face. The morning wind froze the windows and I couldn't see a thing outside, so I rotated my head to the front of the bus and I regretted it when I spotted Jocelyn's hair.
After a thirty minute long ride that consisted of the bus turbulet drive, a few rocky bumps that made the old woman that was beside me hit my shoulder, and the sounds of crying babies, I was finally here.
Luckily, I knew the shortcuts better than Jocelyn.
As people got down and loitered around the avenue, I strode the opposite way to the right corner of the famous Bron Cafe as I ran into few people when I walked faster across Yerevan garden, I took the left exit and Vera's villa was in front of me.
I fished out my phone and pressed on record before I held it on my side.
Kalina's sister sat on the front steps of her house and I sped up to her. She stared in surprise at me as I quickly unzipped my bag in front of her.
"Asher, you're not supposed to be here,"
I only took out the letter and handed it to her, she took it and read it, her eyes narrowed over the words.
"I'm going to kill him if he thinks he'll make a move on my sister, who the hell he thinks he isβ"
"I have to go, don't tell Jocelyn about this." I told her. Jocelyn was halfway here and I didn't want her to see me.
"Wait, how did you know she's coming?"
"She's on her way, I saw her in the bus. Listen, just protect your sister and don't tell a soul or you'll get locked up." I showed her the recording on my phone, she had a disappointed face, the kind that I was used to.
"I had to be cautious." I said in a final tone before I ran off to the streets.
