My house was a medium-sized, victorian style building that dad had built, he was a classical man, it could be seen by the intrications of swirls around the four white windows. Too bad I only got to see him once a month, I wasn't close with my parents, it was their choice when they decided to be rebellious teenagers together and unleash themselves to the wild.
If that wasn't the icing on the cake, Vera was in front of it with her hands on her sides, a very pissed off Vera was a bad Vera. Ever since she trashed Jocelyn's cousin, Melodica's house, nobody could say a word to Vera, much less look at her.
She steamed off on me.
"What did I do?" I questioned faultlessly, I put my hands up as she glowered my way, if her eyes were laser, I would be dead in nanoseconds.
She snatched both of my hands within her stiff hold, I screeched like a cat because I expected her to punch me. I had never seen my sister this boiled up, she reminded me of Maleficent when she thrashed me in the house.
"Vera, you're scaring me! did something happen?" I was thrown off to the couch situated inside the entrance lobby. "I swear, I didn't steal your candies at the parlor." I added, she was silent, the deadly silent but with squinted eyes and bitten lips.
"You aren't going to the match. You can watch it live on the television, make up stories in your mind, I don't care! Kalina Levan Sanders! you are grounded here and I will be watching you whether you like it or not." She stated loudly, her finger wiggled at me.
But I had to go. There has to be a way, but with Vera's snake watch, I had to think long and hard.
There was an hour and a half left for the match.
"I wanted you to come with me." I voiced out meekly, she sat next to me with the key chain around her finger as she spun it with a smirk.
"I locked the door, we can hang out here and get a movie night in, but your puny ass is staying here."
"My ass isn't puny. I need to go, I can't miss out on this." I shrieked.
"You didn't go to any soccer events at school, why would you want to go now?"
My disadvantage was that I couldn't lie to my sister because she would catch me easily.
I needed to continue the search for Averly's lover. What if he had information about the murderer? What if he protected the person behind her death? Was it someone that was a mutual friend?
If my curiousity was a person, it would be a cannibal. It would definitely eat me up alive with no mercy.
My biggest motivation was Asher. I thought about how he was going to be there and it would ravel me closer to what I wanted. I was going to answer all of my questions tonight.
But the bear in the room, also known as the ass buster, didn't intend on leaving me and she took my phone.
"Because Leslie asked me out - hey! give me my phone back!" I yelled, I jumped over my satisfied sister to take my phone, but she shoved me to the wall with her tall spider legs.
"No can do, princess." She taunted as she dashed to the living room and I followed behind in a haste.
To say I was screwed was an understatement.
"Vera, you can't keep me locked up here. It's the weekend!" I was on the verge of a million pleads and tears, she wouldn't budge as she turned on the TV and I sat in my sulking state on the other side.
It was friday night, the clock went closer to 8PM and I wanted to claw my sister out.
She put on Family Guy and stole a few peanut butter biscuits from the table along with other snacks. I scanned my eyes at the now visible snacks and I came to a realization that she planned to keep me here tonight.
"Who told you, Vera?"
She paused the show.
"Told me what?"
Why would Vera lock me up if it wasn't for my safety?
My sister only ever paid attention to me was if there was any danger around.
"Someone informed you about something happening at the match. I know you, you wouldn't just say no if it wasn't something terrible out there."
She quirked up a smile as her eyes gave it away.
"It was Leslie who told you, wasn't it?" She disgruntled as she stood up after I called out his name and closed the screen.
"You wanted to get into Asher's drama and I would be damned if I involve you in this."
She laid her body against the living room's door with a snap and a lock sound accompanied by a teasing smile.
Game on, sister.
