Chapter 8 - Clearing Out The Campus

Zeke slowly woke up as he looked around confused. 'Where am I?' After taking a few seconds and having his eyes readjust to the darkness.

After his eyes adjusted to his surroundings, he quickly remembered what happened yesterday and knew it was reality, not just some bad dream.

Slowly standing up, Zeke stretched his arms out, looked around to make sure no one was looking over his way, and quickly grabbed some clothes out of his bag and began to change.

As he put on his pants and started to change his shirt he heard a voice behind him. Zeke startled with his shirt in his hands turned around.

"Excuse me," Olivia said as she blushed looking at Zeke's well-defined six-pack and v lines. "I heard yesterday you were going south, down to Inglewood, is it okay if I travel with you? My grandma and little sister live near there."

"If you are ready in a few hours I will be heading out," Zeke said while looking around the gym and noticed more than 95% of the people were still sleeping including Andrew and Sarah. "I still have a few things I need to grab around the campus for supplies and I don't want to leave while it is dark outside so we will need to wait for the sun to come out." He added as he realized it was still early morning.

After they talked a little more and Zeke realized she had a rare healing class he immediately tried recruiting her to his Faction. Olivia agreed almost instantly after what she saw yesterday.

[Olivia Parker has joined your Faction.]

Once she joined the faction Zeke was able to see more of her information when he used his Inspect skill.

'Inpsect'

[Olivia Parker]

Rank: Novice

Class: Angelic Healer

Level: 12

Strength: 19

Agility: 24

Stamina: 20

Health: 34

Magic: 76

Skills: [Inspect] [Group Healing] [Slow Restoration] [Light Strike]

After Zeke saw her skills and his class he instantly hugged her without even thinking.

Catching Olivia off guard and when she realized what was happening she started to blush.

"Umm?" She asked quietly.

"Sorry. sorry," Zeke quickly apologized "I was a little too happy to get my first Faction member." He slightly lied to her. It was true, but he also felt like he struck gold with her class and skills. Healing was extremely important, especially in this kind of chaotic world they were now in.

"I am going back to my dorm to find a few things, I suggest you make sure you have everything as well. I would like to leave as soon as the sun comes out." Zeke suggested as he finished putting on his shirt and shoes.

Olivia left to go pack a few things up as well.

While getting ready to go outside the outpost. Zeke now thought about his new faction member and how he would try to help find her grandma and sister so she would stay in the Faction.

Pushing that to the side Zeke was ready to head outside the gym, but before he stepped out he realized he didn't know the time.

As he looked around trying to find a clock he noticed they were all not working.

Zeke pulled up the Outpost interface to check if it had a clock function or if there was any way to tell the current time.

Unable to find anything Zeke thought for a second and pulled up his status page and clicked on the Egg.

[Countdown]

5:27:11 remaining

Zeke was able to calculate that should be between 2 am and 5 am based on how much time came off the countdown from the original 12 hours.

After figuring out a rough estimate of the time Zeke stepped out of the gym door they entered yesterday afternoon.

Zeke looked around to make sure there was no imminent threat.

It seemed as the zombies were staying away from the vicinity of the outpost, but he could clearly see groups of zombies in the distance.

He used the spread-out groups of zombies to farm and level up to meet the level 30 requirement for upgrading his talent.

After Zeke killed around 300 zombies on the way to his dorms he noticed a few things and stopped on top of the tall clock tower that was on campus to double-check.

Pulling up his status screen Zeke frowned. 'I still haven't leveled up after killing around 300 zombies?' He was still level 18 and it seemed like it was harder for him to level up after he sacrificed those 5 levels.

He also noticed that the zombie's levels were a little higher most around level 5 and there were a lot more zombies than he thought there would be.

Lastly, Zeke has yet to get any treasure orb drops or any upgrade fragments. Zeke decided to take advantage of the large amounts of zombies and their low levels. He used his bat view to scout out the main areas and continued to slaughter the groups.

As Zeke made his way around the campus clearing out the buildings and looking for survivors he made his way across another group while he was scouting with his bat view.

He saw a couple of people peeking out of the windows of the third story of the library building. The main issue was that the building was surrounded by zombies. It seemed as if the main doors were barricaded as the zombies were banging on the doors.

After Zeke scouted for a few more minutes he located what seemed to be two shield zombies in the middle of the pack and choose to inspect them.

[Shield Zombie]

Level: 12

Strength: 29

Agility: 10

[Shield Zombie]

Level: 14

Strength: 37

Agility: 14

These shield zombies were weaker than the one he saw in the mini-game but Zeke was still surprised to see the zombies outside of the mini-game.

Noticing they were weaker and now that he was a Vampire Halfling, he didn't have to worry about being infected Zeke choose to fight head-on and distract the horde from breaking into the building as he didn't know how many survivors were inside.

'Let's test my new strength' Zeke said with a slight smile on his face as he came out of his bat view and jumped down for the one-story building he was on.
