Everyone burst out laughing, even Dyson who chuckled awkwardly at the joke. Rex himself was smiling proudly.
"It was a short-lived venture," Liam said as he looked at the pilot with pretend sympathy. The golden retriever in his arms doesn't know what's going on, but she's as excited as everyone else. "But a loved one."
"Rest in peace." Mar added with a grin. "We'll miss it."
"Thanks for your sympathy." Rex nodded as if he's talking about a serious matter.
"But seriously though..." Alex composed himself from his laugh. "Was it planned?"
"What do you think?" The black haired alpha asked his older brother. "Of course it is. Me and my buddies are always color coded."
All eyes went to Rex, who shrugged. "I didn't sign up for this."
"If Mar starts calling you buddy, I'm gonna puke." Alex grinned as if he just got a victory.
Liam's arms were getting tired again, but Destiny was resting her head on his shoulder. He won't fail her now. Blue sneaked up to the platinum blond alpha again, and her hand went up to the dog's neck, ruffling her furs. The golden retriever leaned into the omega's touch, and Blue let out a giggle. When Destiny's here, everyone gets a win.
"You should get a pet." Dyson came to take his dog back, and Liam handed Destiny back with no trouble. She's a huge dog, at least sixty pounds, and she's acting like a lab dog. No one is complaining, so she's loved.
"I have r-reptiles." Blue smiled up at Dyson, and her hand is still on Destiny.
"Anyways..." Alex's loud voice cut through their peaceful conversation. "I came out here to get y'all to the dining table."
"I thought dinner starts at 6?" Mar piped in.
"Yeah, but don't you wanna claim your seats?" Alex bent his tone like he's a car salesman ready to promote his product. "I came out here to get y'all, I'm not selfish enough to sit where I want without y'all."
"Oh, thanks." Dyson smiled at his younger brother. "Go without me. I need to settle Destiny in my room."
"Alright, don't say I didn't come to see ya!" Alex did a finger gun at Dyson before he turned around and took his fiancee's hand. Rita looked relieved that the siblings' interaction was over as she let him drag her away.
"Alright, cya for dinner!" Dyson grinned at them before he began walking away with his bundle of joy in his arms. Destiny barked at them as her owner took her into the mansion.
Blue looked at the couple, and she looked back at Mar and Liam. The platinum blond alpha didn't know what she's thinking behind those beady black eyes, but she looked away and began speed walking towards her cousin. Just out of ear shot, Rita was saying something to Blue when the omega finally caught up to the slightly older omega female.
Next to Liam, his companion is looking at his older brother. The pilot's deep brown eyes didn't leave Blue as she left, and Mar was about to poke him again.
"So..." The black haired alpha began.
"Shut up." Rex hissed.
"We didn't even say anything." Liam chuckled as he stood by Mar. "Now go get her."
If he loves her, he wouldn't let her walk away like this. Even without pheromones and scents in the air, Liam could tell Blue was upset for some reason. He understood her situation, after all, the taller alpha spent years pinning for Mar when his best friend was close to him, but just out of reach, so he was left in the gaps of uncertainty of whether or not the person he loves actually loves him back. Blue's circumstance is whether or not Rex values her as more than a toy, and she fell for him.
Deep brown eyes moved to the platinum blond alpha's smug face. "What?"
"Go get her." Mar pointed at Blue, his purple eyes blazing in anger. "What are you waiting for?"
Rex took in a deep breath and shook his head.
"Coward." Liam sneered at the pilot, fully expecting Rex to do something about it, either physically violent or verbally abusive, any reaction is better than him staring into the distance.
"I'm not ready yet." His baritone voice was smaller than the two younger alphas expected.
Mar clenched his fist, and Liam put a hand on his companion's shoulder. 'Let him talk,' blue eyes met purple ones to convey the message.
"Not ready for what?" The black haired alpha scoffed at his older brother. "She's waiting for you to court her, you giant piece of shit."
Rex clenched his jaw, and both of his hands were shaking in his trousers pockets. It's a small movement, but it didn't escape a pair of ever observant blue eyes.
"We talked about this." The pilot snarled, and he looked away from the two younger alphas. "She was the one who started everything. You're right on one thing, I am a coward, and I am fucking anxious. Paranoid, even. So leave me the hell alone. This is none of your business anyways."
"It became our business when Blue was crying over your dumbass." Liam told Mar to hold back, but he himself didn't. "Shit fucks, she deserves someone better than an asshole who treats her like a toy."
A fist came towards Liam's face, but it stopped a few inches away. Rex gritted his teeth and took his hand away before he could punch Liam. The platinum blond alpha didn't move from his position, and next to him, Mar was already to beat up his own brother.
It would be a shame if the two brothers plus a family friend have a fight and beat each other up before dinner.
"I don't want to ruin the surprise." Rex growled as he turned away from them. "But at the same time, my patience is limited when it comes to dealing with you two. So, leave me be, and whatever you assume about Blue's relationship with me isn't our problem to deal with."
"Surprise?" Mar took a few steps towards his brother. "What surprise?"
"You tell Blue everything." Rex sighed as he began walking away. The two younger alphas immediately started following him.
"What surprise, you fucker?!" Liam was so close to tackling him at this point.
"I don't trust you to not tell Blue." Deep brown eyes looked back at them. "After all, you can't even keep your mouth shut about your—"
"Blue found out by herself." Mar interjected with a smirk. "Blackmailing won't work on us when we know what you did to her."
A roaring laugh, more bitter than ever, came from the pilot as he continued walking towards the beach. "Listen here, you little shits. I don't interfere with your love life, so don't interfere with mine."
"You hurt our friend, so we gotta do something about it!" The black haired alpha shouted at his brother.
"Go ask her." Rex's voice mocked them. "How have I hurt her? Now leave me alone so I can work on the surprise."
Liam held Mar back before his companion could lay a hand on the pilot. A hand on Mar's shoulder was enough to stop a war.
"Let's go back." The platinum blond alpha whispered to his best friend. "Whatever the surprise is... We'll have a better chance if we're talking to Blue."
"Alright." The black haired alpha sneered at his brother's back before turning around and stomping towards the mansion.
Liam gave the pilot a middle finger before he followed his companion.
