Luna's heart was racing, pounding in her chest like a drumbeat. She had been avoiding her father and pack since she left, not wanting to face their disappointment or anger.
But now, with her father's call, she knew she couldn't run forever. She had to face the music. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves and nodded at Rachel, signaling for her to put the phone on speaker.
"Hi, Dad," Luna said, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Luna! Thank goodness you're okay. I have been worried sick about you," her father replied, relief evident in his voice.
"I'm okay, Dad," Luna said, feeling a lump form in her throat. "I'm staying with Rachel for now." she replied, hoping to avoid his request for her to return home.
There was a pause on the other end of the line before her father spoke again. "Luna, we need to talk. Can you come home?"
