Chapter 14 - Forest Fire

Torma..

Everytime that you get undressed,

I have symphonies in my head,

I wrote this song just looking at you..

Oh_Oh_Oh

Hear the drums they swing low,

And the trumpets they go,

Tututulululu Tututulululu_

We sang to Trumpets by Jason Derulo laughing before she gave me a high five. She made the third turn and I nudged her shoulder.

'Are you sure you know where we are going?' I laughed while she turned down the volume.

'Uh-huh!' she nodded finally paying full attention to the road. 'We are almost there!' Almost immediately she made a turn and I squinted my eyes at her.

'Woo!' I heard yelling the same time the tyres hit murram. Tressa smiled at me probably showing off.

I rolled my eyes and got out of the car immediately she parked. Harrison walked to the car the moment Tressa got out and moved to me.

'Finalement!' He handed us two bears, one each. I raised my brows in confusion of what he'd just said.

'French for finally!' He took a sip out of his bottle. I looked at him still confused as to why he'd know that. Tressa awkwardly cleared her throat and walked off.

'Come on..it's going to be a fun picnic!' Harrison threw his arm over my shoulder and guided me behind a house.

'Whose house is that?' I pointed at the house with the beer in that hand almost looked like a toast.

'A relative of ours!' Harrison shrugged not paying attention to it. I found it odd.

'You have odd taste..' I laughed choosing to lighten up the moment.

He stopped looking at me confused. 'Who picnics at night?'  I took a sip of my beer.

He shrugged and walked to the group. I noticed they all had their  mat laid out and few sat on them.

They cheered when they saw us.

I noticed that Tressa hadn't come back. I sat on the crooked wooden fence awkwardly watching the others have fun.

Harrison walked over to Mable; the purple haired girl with the tattoos and lip piercing.

I watched them share a passionate kiss, I didn't feel weird watching them.

Someone cleared their throat and I shifted my eyes to the she. It was Clary. She smiled at me sadly.

'It happened the night of the party!' She sighed. 'Harrison does have questionable taste in girls?'

She laughed forcefully and I returned the gesture not knowing what to do.

'I mean he did date some nerd called Thelma before me..' She sniffled suddenly. Her sudden tears made the conversation weirder. 'I know you like him_'

'Whoa!' I cut her off. 'You are definitely mistaken..the guy I liked is..more of a father to me now?' I began to talk realizing how her face got pale. 'What? Harrison is not the only one with questionable taste in people!' I defended.

She suddenly laughed and started confessing how she liked some high school teacher of hers.

The night grew colder, weirder and darker. I felt uneasy, perhaps I should have gone home before dawn like I was told to.

We were in the middle of nowhere, according to me. I didn't know where we were.

I walked over to Harrison, guilty for having to pull him away from his steamy make out session.

'Hey what's up..are you okay?' He groggily said before noticing my expression. He looked serious after.

'I think I want to go home..I don't feel good about being here right now!' I honestly said.

'Okay.. then I'll help_'

'Babe..what's taking you so long!' Mable whined. Harrison transferred his attention to her.

'Samuelle needs a ride home so..' He was interrupted by her lips.

He pulled away. 'Can't she ask Tressa or anyone else?' She flattered her eyes at me. It seemed forced like a threat almost.

I nodded irritated by that.

I walked away ignoring them, besides they were at it again.

I moved around to find Tressa in the same situation with her boyfriend.

I groaned dropping my bottle and moving out of the compound. I took the murram road I could see. I ignored the dark paths, only taking the ones where I could at least see.

I reached a point where the dark ate up the roads. I gulped and decided to move on since I'd move this far.

I walked down the path not looking behind, I had to get home. Talk about bad adult decisions now that I am of age.

I gasped when I felt something wrap around my leg. I didn't have a flashlight or a phone. I used Danielle's to text dad. But now he was gone. So I had no use for one. But now I knew could definitely use one.

I felt the thing tighten around my leg and natural instincts hit in. I tagged my leg and ran haphazardly down the path. I didn't care where I was going but I had to get away from that thing. I better not be a vine.

I stopped when I heard two muffled sounds and then a growl. I ran away from the place when I realized I could have been a beast, animal.

I bumped into a guy, he was wearing a jacket and a cap shadowing his face. He grabbed me and I struggled.

Never did I think of yelling for help.

'You aren't supposed to be here!' He lowly warned just as a fire broke out. I could see my surroundings. It was a forest. And I was off the road. I saw the man had a scar running down his cheek.

I gasped.

'What are you doing out here at this time young lady?' He croaked. I mumbled feeling stiff.

'I was out here for a picnic with my friends_'

'You all have to get out of here!' He warned hearing the growl again. He let go of my hand and ran off.

I ran in the direction I was facing, I didn't stop..until I heard a whimper. I stopped and started following the whimpers. This was my biggest weakness.

What if it was a trapped puppy? A lost one at that!

I ran faster in that direction.

'Hello?' I walked ignoring how many twigs snapped under my weight. I had to help. 'Anyone there?' I blocked the smoke from crashing into my eyes.

The heat felt harsher here. I had to help the puppy or whatever it was, before it perished in the fire.
