The next morning Cheta and I went downstairs to have breakfast and while we were having breakfast, he looked up at me and said, "Baby, you know I can finish up my meeting and go with you to see your Mum"
"I know but I want to spend the day with her, I know there are some things she will want to talk to me about, so let me just spend the day with her", I said to him
"But I'll miss you and I don't know what I'll be doing without you"
"Baby, it's just a few hours, I'll be back before you know it, I promise", I said to him.
After we were done with our breakfast, he said, "I'll miss you, baby, you better hurry back before I get bored to death"
"I promise I'll be back soon and you know I'll miss you too", I said to him and kissed him and when he finally let me go, I left the suite. I got in the car and the driver took me to my family's house. I didn't feel like leaving Cheta back at home but I needed to spend this time with my mum and sister. As you all know, I stay in the western part of Nigeria while my Mum stays in the Eastern part, and I don't get to see them very often so every little chance I get, I try to spend it with them, hence why I decided to take a day to spend alone with them without Cheta.
My sister, Ella was leaving the house to the market to get groceries when I walked into the house.
"Good morning Sis", she greeted me,
"Good morning, where is mum?", I asked her,
"She is in her room. You didn't come with Cheta?", she asked me,
"Cheta is busy with work, so I'm here alone. Going out?"
"Yes, I'm going to get groceries for Cheta's soup"
"Okay, I'll be here when you get back"
Ella left the house and I shut the door. I was not only proud of what my mum had done with all six of us, I mean raising us alone after my dad had passed, but I was especially proud of what she did with Ella, she was just 16 years old at the time and now she had grown into a fine, well-mannered young lady and it just felt good to see that. I went in to look for my mum. She was in her room, reading her bible when I walked in.
"Good morning Mum", I greeted her when I walked into the room.
"Good morning, my baby", she said and looked up when I walked into the room. I am my mother's first child, but she still sees me as her baby, that's why she still used to call me her baby, I don't see it as unusual though.
"How was your night, Mum?", I asked her
"It was fine. Did Cheta come with you?", she asked me
"No, I left him at the hotel, he had work to do and I wanted to spend the day with my mum", he said and walked over, sitting next to her on her bed, then I asked her, "So what do you think about Cheta?"
"Hmm... Cheta is a really lovely gentleman."
"Is that all?", I asked her
"I mean I just met him once but from our conversation, he seems like a good man and he loves you too"
"Okay...okay", I sat there, blushing.
"But how do you feel about him?", she asked me
"Mum?!"
"Tell me... I want to know"
I forgot to tell you that my mum was a very inquisitive person, she always wants to know what is going on in our lives and when there's something to talk about, she sure would quiz you until you tell her, there's no winning when it comes to that with my Mum.
"Okay... I love him, I mean it's a little fast but he treats me like no one else has and I'm enjoying it"
"Okay. So do you see yourself married to him?", she asked me, with a smile on her face
"Did he say anything to you?", I asked her.
"Can you just answer, young woman?"
"Yes, I can see myself married to him, but that's if he asks me. I don't want to start having ideas", I answered.
"Okay, you will wait till he asks you".
My mum and I spent part of the morning talking about everything, including my business and career. Ella was back 2 hours later with the groceries to make the soup, then we helped my Mum prep the soup and I also had to stay with her in the kitchen while she was cooking, apparently she wanted the company. And as expected, she was making her favourite soup which is also the kind of best soup. We were done cooking in an hour and it was about lunchtime, so I had lunch at the house with my mum and sister while we packed Cheta's lunch for him, he was already calling me and asking me when I was coming back. I finished up with my mum and went back to the hotel to meet the love of my life, yes, I said it, Cheta is the love of my life. I know you would want to try and school me on what that term means, but this man makes me feel things I haven't felt in a long time and he is doing this without even getting in my pants, he knows how to say the right thing and the way he says it? I mean it just gets me either confused or having butterflies in my tummy, okay, I have gotten distracted again, let me get back to the story again.
When I opened the door and walked into the suite and Cheta turned around and he looked tired or should I say hungry. I put the food down on the table and walked over to him, I got on the bed and hugged him, kissing him like I had not spent the night with him. I still don't know why this man had such a strong hold over me, no one had done this to me and I didn't know how to control it and it sort of scared me because that meant he could hurt me, don't worry I'm still on course with the story. I sat up and looked at his very handsome face, "Did you miss me?", I asked him.
"I missed you baby and I was so hungry, I ate all our snacks"
I laughed.
"It's fine, my love... we can get more snacks when we drive out in the evening or tomorrow. I'll get them to bring up plates so that I can serve your food", I said.
"Thank you, baby"
I kissed him and got up from the bed to make the calls to the kitchen. A few minutes later, they brought up the plates and I served his food. I don't think I have seen Cheta eat the way he ate that afternoon, I mean my baby finished his fufu and even licked the remaining soup on his plate. After lunch, we went out for drinks and we were out there for a few hours before coming back and sleeping off, we didn't even have the strength to take a night bath, thankfully, I showered before we stepped out that evening. I woke up in the middle of the night and Cheta wasn't in bed, and when I started wondering where he was, I heard his voice coming from the parlour, so I got out of bed to find out what was going on. I walked into the parlour and Cheta rushed off the conversation he was having.
"I'll call you back in the morning... No, let's talk later", he said and hung up the phone and that made me suspicious.
"Baby, you are up...did I wake you up?", he asked me
"No, I guess I had slept enough. Who was that on the phone?", I asked him.
"It was no one important, just work"
"Work? At midnight?", I asked him.
"Baby, it's nothing. Let's watch a movie."
"Cheta?"
"Baby, I'm hungry, maybe we should order something. What do you think?", he asked me
"I think it's too late to eat, we can just snack while we watch the movie", I said, still suspicious
"Okay, snacking is not a bad idea.", he said.
I'm sure you all think I used the term "Love of my life" too quickly right? And now Cheta is probably cheating on me. I didn't know what to make of what had just happened, but all the sparks were flying in my head, I didn't know what to think at this point, who was Cheta talking to at midnight and why was he acting like it didn't happen and trying to do something else instead? These questions kept going through my mind the whole time we were watching the movie, I don't even know if I knew anything that happened in that movie but I slept off eventually. Was Cheta cheating on me? Was I wrong to think that? Well, I don't know what to think at this point, but I'll get to the bottom of this.
