I'm getting used to waking up next to Cheta, I don't know how I'm going to deal with sleeping and waking up alone when we get back to Lagos. Well, if I don't wake up now, we are going to miss our flight to Abuja. Let me just say that we were lucky we didn't miss our flight. We woke up late, it was an hour before our flight time, so we were both in a hurry, thankfully we had packed the night before, so all we did was brush our teeth and hurry downstairs and to the car. Yes, we didn't take a bath. Our driver was really fast, we got to the airport 10 minutes before the time, so we hurried over to the checking counter to get checked in. We couldn't even sit in the waiting area, we walked straight to board the plane.
"Careful baby", Cheta said to me while I was hurrying into the plane
"Thank you, baby",
We got in and took our seats, then the pilot made the announcements and we took off. During the flight, there was a little turbulence and Cheta turned and took my hand, sort of his way of comforting me.
"Are you okay, baby?", he asked me
"I'm fine. It's just a little turbulence"
"Okay, but I'm going to continue holding your hand if you don't mind?"
"Yes, that's okay"
We got to Nnamdi Azikiwe airport, 45 minutes later and we went over to pick up our bags, it was taking so long but we got our bags and walked out of the airport. As usual, there was a car with a driver and a security officer waiting at the car park for us, the driver took our bags.
"Thank you", I told him as he took my bag.
We walked to the car and Cheta opened the door and I got in, then he got in after me.
"So what hotel are we going to?", I asked Cheta
"We are not going to a hotel, we are going to the house"
"The house? Your family has a house in Abuja?", I asked again
"Yes, we do and that's where we will be staying"
"Okay", I said
We drove from the airport to Cheta's family's house which is in Maitama. Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria which is in the middle of the country. The skyline of the city, which was built in the 1980s, is dominated by Aso Rock, an enormous monolith, and Maitama is an upscale area in Abuja, it is a very beautiful place. It wasn't my first time in Abuja, but it was the first time I was in that part of the city. We got to the gate and drove in, the house looked almost like their house in Lagos, when we got in, the housekeeper came out of the house and picked up our luggage.
"Good morning Sir... Good morning ma'am", he greeted us
I nodded my head with a smile.
"Good morning", Cheta answered, then he asked, "Did my mum tell you, we were coming?"
"Yes, Sir. She did, your room is cleaned and ready.", he answered
"Okay. And breakfast?", Cheta asked
"Yes, breakfast is ready and the table has just been set Sir", he said.
"Okay. Thank you", Cheta said.
We walked into the house. The housekeeper took our bags upstairs while we stopped over at the dining table to have breakfast. There was a beautiful layout of food on the table, you would think they were expecting 10 people for breakfast and not just me and Cheta.
"Baby, this is a lot of food", I said and chuckled.
Cheta laughed. "Well, that's how they do it here, I think", Cheta said.
We sat down and ate our breakfast. I think I over-fed myself, which is becoming a regular thing for me. We sat at the dining table a little bit longer after we had finished.
"You think we would be able to see your brother today?", Cheta asked me
"I have even told him we are in Abuja yet. I'll call him when we get upstairs", I said
"I was thinking of meeting up with some friends but if he is not busy, we can hang out instead"
"Okay, I'll ask him", I said
We went up to Cheta's room, it was also a suite like the one in Lagos but it was bigger and the interior was also more beautiful. We got in and I went into the bathroom to take a bath. I took my time because the water was warm and it just felt good to be under the running shower.
"Are you taking a nap in there?", I heard Cheta ask me from inside the room.
"I'll be out soon, baby", I answered, shouting a little bit.
I got out of the bathroom and Cheta was sitting on the bed, looking at something on his phone.
"Someone decided to get out of the shower finally.", he said
"Baby, the water was so warm, I didn't even want to get out"
"I'm sure you have finished the hot water, so I'll just wait a little", he said
I opened my box and took out shorts and a top with a pair of socks. I got dressed while Cheta continued what he was doing on his phone. I got in bed and Cheta walked into the bathroom, after kissing me on the forehead. I slept off while waiting for Cheta to get out of the bathroom, I guess he also didn't want to get out of the shower. I felt Cheta hold me when he got in bed with me, he got in and slept off too. We slept for quite some time and woke up to eat lunch. The kitchen had called Cheta's room to tell us that lunch was ready, so we went down for lunch. As usual, there was food spread on the table. While we were eating the Chef walked in to find out what we would want for dinner.
"We won't be having dinner at the house today, so you don't have to make dinner", Cheta told him
"Okay, Sir"
"You might have to cook for 10 people tomorrow evening, I'm having a few friends over for dinner", Cheta told him.
"Okay Sir... any menu I should work with?", the Chef asked him
"You just make a 3-course meal", then he turned to me and asked me, "Baby, do you want him to make anything special?"
"No, I think he should just do his thing", I said
"Okay. Well, like she said you should just do your thing", Cheta said to the Chef.
"Okay, Sir", the Chef said and walked out of the dining table. Then I asked him, "You are having friends over?"
"Yes, just 2 or 3 of my friends, it's a surprise dinner for my friend Nick who is getting married", he said
"Oh! Okay... it should be fun then"
"Yes, it would be fun", Cheta said
We finished eating our lunch and went back to the room. Then I called my brother to tell him that I was in Abuja.
"You didn't even tell me you were coming to Abuja", my brother told me.
"I was going to but I forgot...what are you up to this evening?", I asked him
"Yeah, I'm working tonight but why did you ask?", he asked me
"Cheta wanted to meet you, so he suggested we hang out this evening", he said
"Okay, maybe we can hang out tomorrow?", he asked again
"Yes, but you will come to the house"
"Okay, I'll let you know...but I'm taking you out before you leave Abuja, so be ready", he said
"Okay, that's what I want to hear", I said, excitedly. Then we hung up and I turned to Cheta to tell him about what my brother and I had spoken about but he was fast asleep. At about, 5.00 pm, Cheta and I were dressed and ready to go out with friends. We got downstairs and got into one of the cars and we drove out of the house.
"So where are we going to, baby?", I asked him
"Just going to get drinks with my friend and we will get dinner there"
"Okay"
He took my hand and said, "It will be fun baby, I promise". I turned and looked at him, nodding my head. We got to a lounge and Cheta parked the car and got the car for me. The exterior of the lounge was so beautiful, I couldn't wait to see the interior. Cheta locked the car, took my hand and we walked into the lounge together. Cheta's friend, Nicholas, Nick for short, had gotten the lounge before us, so he was sitting with his fiancee. We walked over to their table and they got up to greet us.
"Hey man, Nick", Cheta said and shook Nick's hand, then he turned to Nick's fiancee, Chioma and hugged her, and said, "Hey Chioma, how are you?"
"I'm fine Cheta", she said to Cheta
Then Cheta took my hand and introduced me, "This is my girlfriend, Chimdinma", Nick shook my hands, "Hi Chimdinma, I hope this man is not stressing you out?", he asked, jokingly,
"He has been nice actually and please you can call me Nma", I said to Nick. Chioma shook my hand too, "Nice meeting you Nma", she said. I responded, "Nice meeting you too, Chioma", I said.
We all sat down and a waiter came over to our table to take our order, after he left, Cheta turned to Nick and asked him, "How's the wedding planning going?"
"It's going well, my bank account can attest to that for sure", he said.
We all laughed.
Our drinks came and we started drinking and continued talking. We talked for quite some time, and then the food came and we started eating and still talking.
"You still coming over to my house?", Cheta asked Nick
"Yes, I'll be there.", Nick said
"Chioma should come too, she can hang with my baby", Cheta said
"Okay, we will be there by 8.00 pm". Chioma said
We continued eating and talking. We were there for a long time, and then Nick suggested we went clubbing but we were already exhausted, so Cheta said we would go some other time. We stayed an extra hour or so I think. It was really fun, just like Cheta said, Nick and Chioma are cool people and I was already looking forward to the surprise dinner the next day.
