Chapter Three.
Cold breeze welcomed the room as she opened the door for the Capone. He was not her favorite, yet she was grateful that he didn't kill them nor her parents.
"Sweetheart, happy weekend," an average height guy spoke as he entered the house. He put on a smile on his scarred face.
"What do you want?" Isabella asked. She did not let a smile escape her lips as he showered her with praises. They irritated her.
"Isabella, please do not be in a hurry," Miguel walked to the sofa where she laid down before and sat with his legs crossed. Four of his men were standing at the door. He noticed that it made the girls uncomfortable. "You boys can give me a break. Wait in the car."
They did not want to leave him alone. But he insisted "they are just two harmless girls who won't have the gut to touch a gun and a deaf brother who won't come downstairs…"
"Don't estimate me, Miguel," Isabella interrupted him. She was well trained by her father and she passed it down to her siblings within these eight years. It was not easy for Julian but he knew how to use a gun. "I can stab you with your knife and organize a party to celebrate it."
A cold shiver ran through his spine and he looked at the young lady in front of him. Dark humor was something he despised and Isabella loved it. Each day, she comes up with a new one to annoy him "is that the best you can do?"
"No," She crossed her arms in front of her chest and walked to where he laid. "I will shred you apart and feed your meats to the birds. I will gladly watch them eat your balls as well."
"Little witch of de la Cosa," he hailed her.
Isabella ignored him. She went to where the fridge was and brought a chilled coke. Her throat hurt after seeing Miguel in their house. Even though she tried to act brave in front of him, deep down she was shaking like leaf.
Rule number one, she learnt from her late parents 'Never show how weak you are in front of your enemy. He would take advantage.'
"Save it, I did not come for these, Bella" Miguel said. He sat upright and sent three of the men out of the room. The last man had a big book in his hand. It was for debtors. "Yesterday was your pay day. I did not hear from you. The boss was wondering if you have forgotten."
She swallowed hard holding the can in both hands. Isabella was wondering which tone of voice to use. The last time, she begged and the undercover boss gave her a chance to look for a way "Miguel, I was going to come to you but…"
"No buts, Isabella" Miguel stood up from the sofa. "The boss won't listen to your cock and bull story any longer. You had an offer but refused to take it."
She rolled her eyes. It was better to die than to work for the boss. Maybe this was what led to her parents' death. Agreeing to work for a Mafiso was good as signing a death note.
It was a forever mission that one would not embark from even if he wanted to.
"I made myself clear…I'm not working for you," she told him. He was no longer concern with her. Isabella was surprised. Did the mob give up on her? Or has he changed?
No! It was impossible for him to change. She knew this man for years and this was his only work. He loved it.
"I have no problem if you don't want to work for me," Miguel walked to the kitchen. Rosa tried to concentrate on her cooking but she couldn't. She turned the gas off and closed her eyes. "She will be good for business."
"No, Miguel," Isabella moved quickly to protect her sisters. She whispered to Rosa to follow the other door that led to her brother's room.
"I know that the amount that my late parents owned is huge, Miguel" She said politely after her sister left. "Let me work…for any employer other than the boss, please. I don't want to involve myself with the mob. After what happened with my parents…" Isabella stole a glance. When ever she mentioned that night he began to show mercy. "Give me time and stop threatening people."
Miguel shook his head. She was as stubborn as her father. He brought a cigarette from his breast pocket. He was going to light it when she interrupted.
"Not in my house, Miguel. I have siblings I'm trying to save from all these," Isabella explained. "I will find a job with in this week and pay you, please."
"I can only advocate for you till the week ends," He headed for the door.
Isabella wondered what would happen if she did not get the money "or else…"
The bodyguard opened the door. Miguel looked in her direction "Well, let's say your siblings will join the mob with or without your or their permission."
Isabella's heart fainted. She held closed to the wall so that she would not fall. Her siblings? No! Not them… Miguel was joking right?
