Of all people in the world, Linda was her coach. She taught her how to answer questions at the interview. Also, what to do and not to do, if she comes in contact with any member of the Genovese family.
"What if they ask me about my siblings or parents?" Isabella posed a question. Linda was not sure of what to say. She turned to Miguel for help.
"Tell them you have three siblings," He replied, with his eyes focused on the book in his hand. "You lost one years ago along side your parents."
Isabella nodded. She could not imagine walking into the Genovese's mansion with lies. They will gladly cut her neck when the truth is out.
The rest of the activities were exercise and how to control her little anger. Linda told that the Genovese family was big. She had to be smart to know each one of them and their strength in the family.
"Avoid the smart or curious cats," She warned. "They are not good for business. Also, I want you to do your job well. Take care of Mr. Genovese. He will get you closer to dreams."
Isabella paid attention to everything she said. When Linda was done, it was already 5:09 PM.
"Shit," Isabella rushed out of the room. She wished she could jump from upstairs and go to the main entrance. It was only a few minutes to the time she gave the doctor who promised to check on Julian.
She wanted to be there when he comes. After struggling through the busy bodies of the players, she finally got to the exit door.
Isabella walked out of the building immediately and headed down the streets.
If she raced home, she would be ten minutes late and if she walk, it would take an hour to get home.
She tied the scarf tightly on her head and adjusted the buckle of shoes. It was time to race home.
Just when she was about to take off, a black car stopped in front of her. Her heart skipped.
Isabella stepped back. The driver could have hit her if she had not stopped on time. The window of the car wined down, revealing the face of it's owner.
She rolled her eyes and asked "Miguel?"
"Get Inside," he instructed. Isabella had to obey him, for now. He was the Capone of the mafia she was working for.
"What happened? Why did you have to scare me like that?" Isabella asked when she sat beside him in the car. Her cheeks were as red as fresh tomatoes. She wondered why he behaved so annoying.
"The consigliere of the Genovese's was seen around this area a few minutes ago," He told her. The driver started the car and they drove on the road that led to her streets.
"So?" she asked with her arms crossed in front of her chest. "I don't even know him."
Miguel was tired of her silly questions. He brought out a pack of cigarettes and she turned to the other side "I don't want him to see you around here. He might suspect us if you show up at the mansion, dummy."
She ignored the fact that he called her a dummy. The consigliere of the Genovese's family? Isabella wished she could see him. Maybe she might be able to recognize…
"Don't even think of it," Miguel interrupted her thoughts. "He is just a lawyer and had no business with your parents."
Isabella nodded. The rest of the journey, no word was uttered. She sat quietly while Miguel smoked his cigarettes.
When they got to the house, She thanked him and opened the door. Something stopped her.
"If I work this out, I won't owe you a dime right?"
"Maybe, it depends" he answered throwing the remaining cigarette over the window.
"How much am I owing now?"
Miguel beckoned on the driver and a book was handed over. He opened a few pages and read carefully "De La Cosa's witch."
Isabella sighed. She did not want to believe that he saved her name that way "Go ahead, please."
"Three point six million dollars..." He told her.
"What?" Isabella's eyes widened. She took the book from him and glared into it. "It was just one point two million the last time we checked."
"Well, that was about five years ago, love," he snatched the book away from her. "It will keep increasing. If I were you, I will better make this work tomorrow or…hang myself in front of the casino."
She gritted her teeth and let the door go. It slammed making Miguel angry.
Isabella laughed and ran into her house. Miguel was going to punish her for this tomorrow. He had been too patient and merciful lately. She wondered why? …or was it for the obvious reason?
At home, the doctor checked on her brother and promised to come back again next week. He prescribed a few drugs for him.
Isabella was so tired so she asked Rosa to see him.
After taking her bath, she fell on the bed and slept off. Tomorrow was going to be a big day for her. It was either she get the job or hang herself in front of the casino…just as Miguel had said.
