Chereads / A Poisonous Cut / Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Evelyn opened her eyes to the warm rays of light on her face. Luster grass and massive trees surrounded her. Before she could even wonder where she was, a surge of memories attacked her brain.

AHHHHH

Her deathly scream rang throughout forest. She grabbed her head as if it spilt into two.

She began to wheeze helplessly. Images of dead bodies around her. A single hole in their foreheads. Her breathing quickened, and she grasped onto her pained heart.

Her short breaths made it really feel like she was about to die. The pain seemed never ending.

"STOP," Evelyn's beastly roar shook her head.

Like a switch, she suddenly stopped crying. Her black eyes were void of feelings. Suddenly, her body jolted and life returned to her eyes.

She touched her wet cheeks curiously.

"Why was I crying?"

Evelyn walked through the forest in her torn, dirty clothes.

"It's never ending," she groaned. It was almost sunset, and she had only seen trees so far.

"Where am I?"

AHHHHHH

A deathly scream pierced the forest. Evelyn immediately froze and looked in the direction of the scream.

"HELP ME"

Evelyn almost wandered toward the cry for help, but she remembered she in not in any state to help someone. She began to turn back around.

"PLEASE HELP"

Evelyn grit her teeth and paused. She rolled her eyes and ran in the direction of the scream.

'I'll observe the situation first'

She used the constant screaming to approximate a location. Before she got closer though, she climbed the tall, bushy trees.

Finally, she arrived to an open area. There was a woman clad in leather armor and holding a chipped sword.

A grotesque like monster hovered over her. It's body was massive- around 3 meters tall and several feet wide. It was deathly pale with huge blotches of discolored skin. The jaw holding the mouth was dislocated, but it did not stop the monster from smiling widely.

A cold chill ran down Evelyn's spine. There was no way she could help the woman. In fact, she couldn't even turn around to run. She was frozen in place.

The monster inched forward with a wide smile. It hunched its back disturbingly and reached for the lady. It let out a low moan of excitement.

SLASH

A crisp slice echoed through the area. Evelyn's eyes widen in shock as she only heard the noise, but did not see any movement.

ROAR

The monster let out a mad scream as it held onto it's severed arm.

A man stepped out of the shadows. Droplets of blood dripped from his broad sword. The massive weapon did not match his pretty face. His slim cheeks were rosy, but his eyes were lifeless.

Without an introduction, he leaped forward and slashed the monster's head off in one motion. He stood on top the creature momentarily before he headed for the woman.

"Thank you," she broke down into sobs while reaching for the man to thank him.

THUD

The lady's head rolled onto the floor. Evelyn gasped out loud in shock.

His head creaked up. Dark blue eyes stared down Evelyn. He slowly raised his sword and pointed it toward Evelyn. An unfamiliar energy lit up the tip of his sword. Sensing danger, Evelyn shuffled backwards. However, she slipped off the thin branch and fell toward the ground.

BOOM

Her body slammed into the floor unprotected. Evelyn tasted blood in her mouth.

SNAP

Evelyn whipped her head around. Unfortunately, the man already hovered above her. Evelyn flinched backwards awaiting her death.

"EDWARD"

A booming voice shook the forest. An older man in his 30s stepped out of the woods from the same direction as the man.

"What are you doing," his fiery eyes swept over Evelyn glancing into her soul.

"We must dispose of those illegally hunting the Uraea, no?" The man, Edward, looked at the older man with an innocent, puzzled face.

Evelyn's mouth opened in shock. Not even a couple minutes ago, he cruelly killed the lady.

"Does she look like a scavenger?" The older man approached confidently. He lifted Evelyn from the ground.

"What's your name?" He smiled gently.

"Evelyn"

He questioned, "what are you doing out here?"

"I don't know," she stuttered carelessly.

She wanted to slap herself. 'A lie would've look less suspicious right now'

"That's alright!" The older man enthusiastically responded. "My name is Harold. This here is Edward. Let's go back together, its dangerous out here." He grabbed Evelyn's arms and began to drag her somewhere.

As they continued to walk through the forest, Evelyn felt a itchy sensation on her back. She turned around and saw Edward staring daggers at her unprovoked. She shivered and turned back around to Harold.

'I want to ask a billion questions, but it would probably be suspicious'. She rolled her eyes. For now, she would have to just follow along.
