Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"So, why didn't you tell him my little secret," she tilted her head at Edward. Even now, Evelyn still could not tell what he was thinking.

He turned his back to Evelyn, and walked toward the door. However, he stopped once he felt the ragged edge on the back of his neck.

"You must think I am joking," Evelyn appeared behind him. Edward sighed as he turned back around, the blade on his neck still. "I have no loyalty to the Federation."

"You really think I believe that. After you went on and on about how I was a destined hero. Actually how do you even know I'm the one your looking for?"

He pointed toward Evelyn's necklace.

"I am a seer. I saw the chosen one with that same necklace."

'Seer? Does everyone have magical powers?'

The blade pressed deeper into his skin, almost drawing blood. "Then why did you try to kill me that first day." She immediately remembered their fateful encounter in the forest.

Nothing added up. Edward was truly a mysterious character, which Evelyn did not like.

He shrugged, "change of heart." He quickly coiled his body and kicked Evelyn. He sent her flying into the opposite wall.

"I won't tell anyone your secret. This is our last meeting for a while. I hope you meet my expectations as well Evelyn." He walked out the door, and another person immediately step inside.

A woman with large round glasses approached Evelyn. Her hair flowed down her shoulders and onto her casual suit. She sighed as she saw Evelyn's bruised body and torn clothing on the floor.

"I am your assistant, Rachel. I'll was appointed by the Emperor and will follow you through your academic years." Her voice was also monotone without expression. Her light brown eyes stared at Evelyn.

She also went inside and called for the maids to take care of Evelyn. Evelyn sat on the floor in the same position.

'Should I get started?'

Evelyn stepped out of a black car. She wore a simple dark blue uniform with a skirt. Her long black hair flowed down her shoulders gently. Rachel stepped out after Evelyn, but walked forward first. Evelyn's dark brown eyes lingered at the sight in front of her.

She stood in front of a castle that stretched onto of dozens of acres of land. On top of that, there were many smaller buildings that surrounded it. Despite the modern era, the buildings had a gothic and mysterious exterior. The bright sun forced Evelyn to close her eyes for a second. Soon, she followed after Rachel.

They weaved through the massive property swiftly. Evelyn wondered how Rachel knew the lay out, but then she remembered she's was affiliated with the Emperor.

'What an annoying gift.' Evelyn scoffed to herself. Of course it would be problematic to have an spy down her neck, but it was impossible to remove her. Evelyn had to quickly decide on her plans.

They arrived in front of a massive building that resembled a church. Hordes of people walked around, some frantic while others relaxed. It seemed like it was all students with their staff- similar to Evelyn. Evelyn disliked the loud setting. She shut her eyes to avoid staring at anyone in particular.

BUMP

Evelyn collided into someone heavily. She quickly opened her eyes, but continued to walk without worry. Suddenly, someone grabbed her arm.

"Where do you think your going?"

A youth with dark blonde hair stared at Evelyn with brown eyes. The extreme reaction startled her, but she remembered most of the people here were arrogant nobles.

"Sorry?" She didn't mind apologizing at first, but she remembered something unsettling.

'The Federation made sure to trample on our pride with torturous humiliation.' The simple thought invoked bloodlust in her.

"Let go," her words resounded in the boy's ears. His grip loosened in fear. However, he quickly grabbed on harder again. Evelyn raised her other arm ready to break his arm, but Rachel grabbed her.

"Master Lucas, it is great to see you here!" Rachel stepped in front of Evelyn.

The boy, Lucas raised his eyebrow, "and you are?" Rachel stepped aside to reveal a once again calm Evelyn. "I am this young girl's aid. I beg you to please forgive her rudeness."

Rachel's words grabbed the attention of those around her and more. Lucas opened and closed his mouth as if hiding what he wanted to say. He quickly put on a arrogant smile toward Evelyn and stuck out his hand.

"I will demonstrate my mercy this time. Watch where you are going." he chuckled out loud.

"Our apologies," Rachel grabbed Evelyn and dashed away.

"What are you doing?" Evelyn tries to remain calm under her anger.

"The Emperor told me to tell you the following: 'I will not openly support a commoner under my name. Do not think of this as an excuse to fall behind. You must meet my expectations in the future.'"

Evelyn failed to hold the laughter inside. She twisted her arm out of Rachel's grasp.

'You never fail to disappoint me. I'll make sure to trample well on your little fantasy,' Evelyn grinned.
