Chapter 11 - Preparations

Next Day.

I had no training today, so I decided to start my plans to get overpowered quickly. I knew a lot of ways to get stronger, including some that belonged to the Protagonist and even the Villains.

I could go and get the secret manuals, grab some secret herbs, secret weapons, inheritances, etc. After thinking about a lot of ways, I decided to inherit the legacy of an Old God.

You see, this world was inside a universe that was floating in the cosmos with other universes. This cosmos had a very long history.

It was written in the background of the novel that this cosmos would periodically destroy all the things inside it and then rebuild it. So, it was a constant cycle of destruction and creation, death and reincarnation. No matter how powerful you were, if the cosmos was ending its cycle, you were destined to die.

There was no need to worry for me as this cycle was very long. It ranged in Quintillions of years. One Quintillion was a billion billions. So I had more than enough time.

Coming back to the topic of Old God. They were the most powerful Cosmic Entities that existed in the previous era and had some degree of control over the cosmos, so they built a safe place that could store their legacy for future generations. But they underestimated the cosmos too much.

The most their legacy could survive was only one era, after which it was destroyed. And in the last era, there was only one such Old God. The chances to get to his legacy were scattered across the whole cosmos because it existed in a universe outside our cosmos, and to get there, you had to get the key for it. The ancient method of mana core creation that the Protagonist got was also from that place.

Luckily, I knew of a method to get there. It was mentioned in one of the side stories where the Protagonist stumbled upon it while searching for ways to save the cosmos from its end. But it was too late. The author also released a cover art for this which clearly showed the Runic Circle and the disappointed faces of the characters when they realised their doom.

For that process, I had to collect some materials first. So I decided to give the list of materials to my maid Emily and told her that I needed them for creating a potion that I read from a book in the library. I also ordered a lot of extra things that were used in potion making too. I gave her the list of items and told her to get them for me.

"Did my son order you to get these for him?"

"Yes, Miss. Young Master said that these were for creating some potions."

"They indeed match some recipes that I have. But I don't know why he ordered Rune ink. Maybe he wants to try rune smithing. Go get them for him."

"Yes."

***

I knew that the list would be passed to my mother for safety checking as she wanted to make sure that I didn't try any dangerous recipes.

I spent the rest of my morning with Sophia. I was educating her about some dos and don'ts of the world and to stay away from some boys. She was an intelligent girl. I didn't know why she fell in love with that idiot. Sigh, love sure makes you an idiot.

In the afternoon, I got all the materials. I quickly moved to my drawing room. After ensuring that all the doors and windows were shut, I started the preparations.

I carefully started drawing the runes that would transport me to the inheritance grounds.

This was my first time drawing a rune this complex. Before this, I also practised with some beginner and intermediate runes, but they were nothing compared to this. I failed many times and always had to start from the beginning.

Slowly, I started to get the hang of it, and after countless unsuccessful tries, I finally completed it.

I was tired, and it was already evening. I would have to skip dinner. I went out of my room to call Emily.

"Emily!"

A moment later, she arrived, "Yes, Young Master. What's the matter?" she bowed.

"Tell Mom and Dad that I will be skipping dinner tonight."

Yes, I started calling them Mom and Dad after they insisted on calling them that when we were home.

"Sure, Young Master. But please take some rest between practising alchemy."

She probably said that after looking at my appearance.

After coming back to my room, I started my procedure.

I first took a bowl and started mixing the required materials in it and put them in a blender to make a liquid. Slowly, it started turning black. This was not supposed to happen. I tried again and again, and I finally succeeded. It was a mentally tiring process. After filtering and cleaning the final product, what I had in my hand was a colourful liquid that looked mesmerising.

I then started pouring the liquid on the runic patterns. Slowly, the pattern started to get covered up by the liquid.

After that, I sat down at the centre with my legs crossed. I then brought out a blade to make a cut on my hand as the circle had to be activated by blood. I was very nervous as I had never done this before. But, then, thinking of the future, I steeled my resolve and slashed the knife.

It stung a lot. I should have made a shallow cut. I quickly started pouring drops of blood over the runes and started to inject mana into the array.

Slowly the array started to light up and the whole room was coloured with light.

I then felt a sensation of something pulling me and my mind felt really heavy. It felt as if it was going to split any moment. I suddenly felt a sense of weightlessness and lost my consciousness.
