They were walking through the basement that they called underground, through hallways and passageways with smooth stone floors and rough walls left untouched.
There were circular discs drilled into the ground, glowing with artificial light every few feet. Lauren noticed computers and all kinds of gadgets she didn't recognize, and doors cracked open to reveal rooms filled with nothing but technological machinery.
"How do you find the electricity necessary to run this place?" Lauren looked more closely at the unidentifiable machines, the flickering screens, and the unmistakable humming of hundreds of computers built into the framework of this underground world.
Elliott tugged on a stray strand of her hair. He responded, "They steal it." He grinned.
Nodded down a narrow path. "This way." Lauren followed Elliott down the narrow path as he led her through the maze of technological machinery.
