Once the hall door closed Dagen turned to Varin, worry, hope, and panic swirling around his heart.
"Are you okay? Did you get what you needed off the doctor?"
…
"Varin?"
…
"Hey man, answer me."
For a minute, Varin didn't move or say a word. Then suddenly he took a deep breath and yelled at the top of his lungs, giving Dagen a heart attack.
"SHIT!!!"
Panicky and on high alert, Dagen damn near jumped out of his boxers.
"What the hell! Are you okay!?"
Looking up, Varins blue eyes burned with a freshly fanned desire to kill those bastards.
"Let's get the fuck out of here!"
Upon hearing those words hope reignited in Dagens eyes.
"So you got what you needed? I didn't see his glasses. Did he not put them back on!?"
Varin grinned and lifted his foot to reveal a pair of glasses with an oddly thick metal frame.
"YES!"
"Can you pick the lock with that?"
Immediately getting to work, Varin broke the temples off the hinges and began fiddling with the lock on his foot. Trying to get an understanding of how these work before moving to his hands, which will be much harder. It only took him around 30 seconds, and with a squeak and click the shackle on his right leg fell off.
"Alright, next!"
The shackle on his left leg came off a little quicker, only taking him about 20 seconds. With that, he moved on to his left hand. Seeing as he only had one hand to work with on each hand, these ones took him a little longer. After what felt like an eternity to Dagen, Varins last shackle came off.
Rubbing his wrists and rolling his ankles, Varin sighed with relief and moved on to the door. This one was simpler and only took him 10 seconds to unlock.
Stepping out of his cell Varin went straight for Dagens door and began working on it, taking him 7 seconds. Already starting to work on Dagens hands Varin asked:
"So, are you ready to get out of here?"
Still concerned about Varins condition after the injection, Dagen decided to push the thought to the back of his mind. He had to, he couldn't allow himself to be distracted if they were going to get out of here, and that was his top priority. With a grin Dagen replied:
"Man, hurry up and unlock these before I punch you for giving me a heart attack earlier. You're gonna kill me before they do if you keep doing shit like that."
With the last of his shackles off, Dagen felt physically and spiritually lighter. Also taking a moment to rub his wrist and ankles. Seeing the state of his right hand made him wince and sigh.
Varin walked back to his cell and started quickly stretching his stiff aching muscles, preparing for what he was about to do. His eyes came across the clipboard, picking it up, he couldn't make out a word, the notes were coded.
"Figures."
While he couldn't read the notes, he did like the looks of the metal clip that was on it. It was a 'butterfly clip', a thin sheet of metal with the flat side holding the papers. The other side had a protrusion in the middle ending with a small hole, this was the part you press to release the papers.
'Perfect.'
Ripping it off the board, he began scrapping the flat side against the floor, creating a sort of crude serrated edge. Quickly trying out a few slashing moves, he held it like he was swiping a credit card through the air. Satisfied with his makeshift weapon, he grinned with a lust for blood. He looked over at the chunk of concrete on the floor, a corner still wet from the doctor's blood. Picking it up, he handed it to Dagen.
"Here, you can use this again. There's probably guards stationed at the door. I'll try to avoid confrontation as much as possible but if it comes to it I'll need your help taking them out. Just follow my lead."
Seeing the blood left on the rock Dagen grimaced a little and griped it tight, steeling his resolve.
"Oh, and good throw by the way."
Glancing back up, Dagens face lit up with a proud smirk. For if there was one thing that he took pride in, it was his aim.
"Anytime you want someone to hit a bullseye, I'm your man!"
Chuckling at the sudden boost in Dagens spirit, Varin turned toward the door.
"Alright! Time for the hard part."
