"Yes! Or, at least, they are in this world. Not all have them. Defeating monsters is the most common way to gain experience points which in turn allows you to raise your level!" She exclaimed excitedly before scooting even closer so that she could explain further. She was pressing herself into me, but this was clearly a young girl. I tried not to lean away from her too much since it would be rude, but I also didn't want to seem like a creep. "You see, when people defeat monsters, they don't only gain experience points, but also items like weapons or armor drop as well! But the best part? These ones drop Mana!"
I frowned deeply as I crossed my arms over my chest while leaning back into the couch. I was trying to understand what the point of telling me all of this was. According to Jim, I was here to kill someone, and that was it, right?
"What does this have to do with the person that I need to kill?" I asked, and the girl paused and nodded.
"You need to get to a high enough level to kill them," Chloe explained, and I narrowed my eyes.
"Wait! I thought I was killing people to send them to fantasy worlds?! This sounds like a world that you would get reborn too, not one that you get Isekai'd on, right?" I asked, confusion mounting, but Chloe just nodded with a bright smile.
"Exactly! Now, you seem like a smart enough person, so I think you will be able to figure out the rest on your own," she said before standing up from the couch. "I need to get going now, but I will see you soon!"
"Woah, Woah, Woah! Where do you think you are going?!" I demanded, standing up.
"It is not my job to enter the world if I don't want to. You are a Trigger, and you are extremely dangerous! I think it is best if I just stay my distance from you. You are probably going to die anyway. You really don't have a clue what you are doing, do you?" She asked, and I frowned.
"I was just ripped from my apartment, then told that I would now be an interdimensional assassin! Of course, I have no clue! I have never killed anyone!" I snapped, and the little witch just nodded at me.
"Exactly. So, why would I put myself in danger for someone that is just going to fail in the end anyways?" Chloe asked, and I winced, but only because she was right.
With that, she walked towards the door of the train car before disappearing into thin air. Talk about five-star assistance! Not that I had thought I would be getting any help, but she made it seem like we were going to be a team. That was probably in my head, and I just wanted to believe that she was going to help.
This was going to be a long day, I was almost certain. I needed a drink, and my head still hurt.
I had no clue who I was to kill, no weapons, nor anything in my pockets but this black box with nothing more than a button on the side. I thought I was supposed to be given whatever weapons I needed?
It looked like I had just been hoodwinked, and now I was left to figure out this on my own.
I turned and looked out the window of the train, and the rainbows suddenly became an open vista, and there was a beautiful city outside like nothing that I had ever seen. It looked like a city out of a postcard, with its tall spires and neon signs everywhere. I'm not one for pretty things, but even I had to admit that it was breathtaking.
One thing that was strange was the amount of forested area inside the city. The other was that when I looked back to the edge of the city where I had supposedly come from, it was all wasteland.
Turning back to look at the advanced-looking city as the train continued, I started to think. What if there was no target? Could I just get away with living a new life below the radar? I was in a new world, after all, so why not? This place looked a lot more interesting than the world that I was from!
But I was sure that was not going to be the case. The contract said that I was required to fulfill my mark, or I would lose my soul. I was not really sure what that meant, but it was descriptive enough to make me not want to find out.
I sighed deeply as the train started to slow down before coming to a stop in front of what looked like a very large and ornate station. There were people milling about everywhere, and I could tell the air was thick with excitement.
"All passengers, please disembark at this time," A loud voice echoed through the train car, but I didn't get up right away.
Now that I heard, my heart was starting to beat faster. I was here to kill someone.
When the door opened, I nearly jumped out of my skin. The sounds of talking and laughing people filled the air, and I let out a long sigh. I slowly stood up from my seat before making my way toward the door.
I stepped off of the train onto a busy platform, where I was instantly bombarded with people. Some were trying to sell me things, others were asking for money, but most were just begging for food.
I looked around, trying to get my bearings. Suddenly, I heard a loud crash and saw out of the corner of my eye what appeared to be a runaway train careening dangerously toward me. Instinctively, I leaped out of the way and watched in horror as it slammed into one side of the platform, cracking its way along before finally coming to rest. Everyone scattered, leaving me alone to take in the chaos of the derailed train strewn across the tracks. Miraculously no one was hurt, but it certainly made everyone forget their own agenda and focus on making sure they were safe.
