I quickly started to make my way through the crowd toward the exit, not wanting anything else bad to happen. I had almost forgotten about my bad luck, but this was something else.
I needed to find a place to stay and then figure out what the hell I was supposed to do next. This whole situation was messed up far beyond belief, but somehow I had a feeling that it was only going to get worse from here on out.
"Aye! Funny-looking guy! I got a lock on some monsters! You in?" A voice called out, cutting through the brabble.
I looked over, and there was a guy with light skin and long red hair pulled back. I looked around to see if there was anyone else near me that he might be pointing to, but it seemed not. I turned back to frown at the smiling man but noticed the rabble was staying away from him.
Mighty strange that this person just picked me out of the crowd with so many people around. Though,
I was new in town, my guide had abandoned me, and I had no clue what I was doing. That didn't leave me with much choice, and he did look familiar with the city.
"Give me a minute to get to you!" I called as I started to push through people, but then a bad feeling hit me, and I looked up. As I did, the sign above fell. I narrowly dodged it, and the rabble screamed, pulling back and clearing from me.
Looks like my luck was still in the negative, and now I was going to go looking for trouble. This was going to go over well; I was sure of it.
The guy started laughing hysterically as he looked at me. "What in the world are you? An edge lord?!"
I frowned deeply as I glared at him, and then looked down at my clothing and sighed. This was not how I wanted to start my new life, but I looked stupid in a black suit. I swear that I had my white shirt and jeans on before leaving the train.
"No, I have remarkably bad luck; now, what is it that you want, Mr. Joker?" I asked sarcastically, and the man laughed.
"I like you! The name is Brice, and I am a licensed hunter!" He said, and then pointed to my chest pocket that had a device in it that looked like a cell phone. "You also must be a hunter If you have a Warden Device, right?"
"Hunter?" I asked, and Brice nodded.
"Yeah! I was looking for a partner for today, and then the train crash happened, and bam! I see you looking like a weirdo in the middle of it! You seem like a fun guy, so I thought you might also be strong if that didn't make you flinch, right?" Brice asked and raised an eyebrow.
"If I told you that I don't know how I got on the train and my mind is fuzzy, would you believe me?" I asked. "I honestly don't know where I am or what you are talking about," I explained, rubbing my head.
This was going to be a long day, I could already tell, but then I noticed a sign that was flickering. Then the face of the man that I was talking to showed up on it.
[Target for kill: Brice Owen.]
Really? The first person that I meet, and it is the one I have to kill? This was not going to be easy.
"Alright, you don't have to worry about anything; if you join me, I will teach you how to use the Warden Device and become a great hunter! We can take on this target together and make some money. What do you say?" Brice asked and then added, "What is your name?"
I looked at him for a moment before nodding. "A Hunter's life doesn't sound like an easy one, but it would be good to learn something new. I am Halberd," I said apprehensively.
"Ooo, edgy! It really fits you and this whole secret edge lord agent look you got going on here!" Brice laughed, and I groaned.
No part of me was sure how I was going to pull this off. On top of it, the guy really didn't seem like that bad of a guy! Why did it have to be the first person?!
But I couldn't back out now. We had a job to do, and I was determined to not lose my soul, and this was for a good cause, right? That was what I was going to keep pounding into my brain until I could do this! My soul was on the line! Whatever that meant!
"Alright then, let's go!" Brice said as he turned away from me.
"Go where?" I asked as Brice started to head south toward a forested area of the city.
"The target is in the woods; he should be easy to find," Brice said as we continued walking. I followed after him, feeling a little apprehensive about what was going to happen. All I knew was that it would be dangerous.
After a few minutes of walking, we reached a clearing, and Brice pointed at a figure standing on one side. "That's our target," he said with a grimace.
My mind immediately went into survival mode, and I began preparing myself for whatever kind of fight might ensue. I had no idea how good this guy was, but my experience told me not to underestimate anyone.
The creature in front of me was not like anything from earth; it had a large reptilian body with thick scales and horns that jut out of its head. Its eyes seemed to follow us as we walked closer like it was waiting for something.
"What is that thing?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly. Brice glanced at me before answering.
"It's a Horned Ground Dragon. They are fairly easy to kill, but you are going to have to summon your weapon if we are going to have a chance," Brice said with an excited grin, but I just looked at him with an unimpressed stare.
"What part of no memory didn't you understand?!" I growled, keeping my voice down, but the dragon seemed to be paying us no mind. "I have no weapon!"
