Chapter 21 - BATTLE

"Should have known better," Xavier spoke to himself in an inaudible tone as he gave chase of the Lizard men.

It had been awhile since the group had been in the depths of the dungeon. It was only natural that they would forget some details about the place; however, it was dumb of them to forget about the creatures themselves.

The creatures in these depths were much more savage and ferocious than the others at the entrance. Apart from that, they also showed a unique aptitude for battle. Something that made them even more lethal than they already were.

Neal running all round the environment was scared of what this situation could ensue. That was short lived though as some other Lizard men joined the fray making things a lot more difficult.

"Damn it! This is bad!" Neal spoke upon realizing how the situation.

Sure the creatures were not as fast as him; however, he could not evade their attacks forever. With a surprise attack from the side, Neal's observation was only proven right. Before the blow could land though, Evans appeared from nowhere deflecting the creatures attack.

Dumbfounded by how he had managed to do that, Neal shook it off, delivering a killing blow to the creature. At that moment, he could not help but notice the creature's skin was harder than expected.

"This is going to be a hassle, isn't it?" Neal said filled with dismay.

Now with Evans defending him, the beasts were drawn to the both of them. This only left them open for an attack from behind. Within few seconds, the rest of the team struck, slaying everyone of the Lizard men that attacked them.

Gasp! Gasp! Gasp!

The sound filled the area as the group did their best to take in air. It was only a few minutes in the dungeon's depths and they were already exhausted.

"Were the creatures in the depths always this tough?" Maya questioned, still struggling to breath.

"Our current formation causes nothing but trouble in here. We have to.."

Before Xavier could complete his sentence, one of the walls in the area began to crack before bursting open, revealing a large monstrosity. From the broken wall emerged multiple Lizard men, ultimately putting the team on edge again.

Annoyed with the fact they had only rested for few seconds, the group prepared once again for another battle. With the large creature emerging from the hole last, the group were intimidated by the sight in front of them.

"What is that thing!"

"It's a sasquatch," Evans answered Neal in a hurry.

Staring at the beast, Neal was astonished at how the creature was different from he imagined. It was large as a tractor, with a muscular and yet hairy body. Crystals covered certain pasts of it's body; however, it did not seem as hard as the ones surrounding the area.

In an instant, the battle began again, exhausting the group even further. The sasquatch wasted no time in attacking it's target as it dashed through the room.

With a fist connecting to the shield of Evans, his footing was shaken by the immense weight from the strike. From the reaction on his face, it was obvious to the rest that he was in trouble.

Even with this though, none of them could avail themselves to aid him because of the Lizard men's hinderances. None except for Neal who was out of sight preparing for an attack.

Launching himself with as much momentum as possible, Neal gave a strike to the creature's neck. He was only left astonished though, when he was suddenly deflected to the side.

'It's skin is tougher than that of the Lizard men,' the thought ran through his mind.

Neal's attempt to aid Evans worked out, but not in the way he intended. With the attention of the sasquatch drawn to him, he was given more than he could handle.

"Neal!" Evans uttered only to be pushed back by multiple Lizard men.

This did nothing but leave Neal with the monstrosity in front of him. Aware of how his friend felt at the moment, he prepared to battle. He probably was remained of when Cody came face to face with a sasquatch.

Making the first move, Neal delivered a barrage of strikes to the foe. This was for naught however, as no form of injury was created on it's body. Swing after swing from the beast was evaded effortlessly by him.

In terms of agility, the sasquatch was slower than the average Lizard man. Reminded of how it felt to be useless, Neal grit his teeth, landing a variety of strikes of the opponent. Strikes that numbered more than the last.

Once again faced with no results, he backed away, thinking of another means of attack. In an instant, Neal dashed away, trying to conceal himself from the creature. This was only met with resistance by the Lizard men that assaulted him.

Getting rid of the obstacles in front of him with a few strikes, Neal was left open for a strike from the beast. With a powerful punch landing on his shoulder, he was thrown to the dungeon's wall, ultimately denting it.

With a sharp piercing pain erupting from his body afterwards, Neal had come to a conclusion that he had multiple broken bones. Gasping for air at an abnormal rate as the creature approached, his body struggled to function.

The sasquatch upon reaching loosed a devastating punch only to be blocked by Evans shield.

"Neal, what are you doing! You have to get up," Evans stated before staring at him.

Just then, he realized something was off. "Don't tell me. Brain down!"

Left with no choice, Evans stared down the foe, realizing that he had to do this by himself. With his heart racing and his hands trembling, he had to face the past he hated so much.

At that moment, with a savage roar, the beast delivered multiple strikes, all of which were defended by him. With a chuckle, he glanced at the enemy.

"You are not getting past me!"
