Chereads / The Emperor of Hollywood [Abandoned] / Chapter 4 - Ch 4: The Audition {Edited}

Chapter 4 - Ch 4: The Audition {Edited}

{1st Person POV}

I didn't like getting up early in the morning. However, I was now making a movie and was most likely going to become a star. I needed to maintain my health and physique.

So, to do that, I decided to go on a walk in one of the biggest park of the city every day.

Even though I didn't live close to one.

Running around the park, I zoned out.

I was going to be holding auditions, which I had no experience in doing. I would definitely need someone who knows how it works.

'I guess I'd have to ask Uncle again.'

 A *sigh* left my lips.

Looking down at the ground, I saw a pair of shoes and a shadow right infront of me.

'Oh shi-'

*Bump*

I hit my head into the back of someone I could only describe as a mountain, and nearly fell down from the recoil.

"Oh, sorry. Are you okay?" A calm voice asked.

I looked up to see who I bumped into, and my jaw dropped.

Michael Young, one of the biggest star from the Hollywood of this world. He was someone known for wining a lot of awards for his acting, aswell as being very picky at which movie he acts in.

And here he was, just jogging around in a random ass park.

"Oh, um..." I couldn't form a proper sentence. Someone who's as big of a celebrity as he was, bumped into ME of all people.

Even if I didn't know much about him, he was still a big star, a big deal.

And this was the perfect moment for me to get on his good side. Getting acquainted with him would only bring me benefits, probably.

I noticed he was looking at me expecting something. I was a little confused at first but then realized that I was staring at him without making a sound.

I quickly got up distanced myself a little.

"I-I'm okay, sir. Please, uh, continue what you were doing. And sorry for bumping into you."

'FUCK! I fumbled it!'

As I was dying from embarrassment and missing my chance to get on Michael's good side, he flashed a smile and said, "Don't worry about that. All of us make mistakes after all."

After saying that, he turned around and continued jogging.

I sighed, and sat down at the nearest bench.

'He was pretty nice to a nobody like me. It seems like he is indeed one of the few actors who don't really have any dirt on them like the others said.'

I looked at Michael's location.

'He's a very capable actor too. Maybe after Halloween becomes a success, I can get him as an actor in one of my movies? Star Power is still a thing in this world. Though it is slowly dying.'

I closed my eyes for a moment, and looked at my phone.

'June 5th, 2007' It read. I didn't really have that much time. I needed to get the actors as quickly as possible and start the production. I wanted to release Halloween in October, which was just four months away.

I didn't want to release it in November or December because they are the months for Family Films. And horror movies are certainly not for the family, with a few exceptions. And Halloween would be R-rated too.

It was definitely possible to get the movie done by August and released in October, infact, the original Halloween was shot in just two weeks.

I'd need a crew for shooting aswell, though they'd need to be quite cheap.

"I'll search it up later. First and foremost, I need to rent a place for the audition."

I took out my Nokia and searched for the nearest theatre. Didn't really matter how big it was, I just needed one.

Looking at the list, most of the theatres were quite expensive. I scrolled down more, and found a theatre that was renting for $80/per hour.

I calculating how much it would cost me for 8 hours, and the total came out at $640. It was a lot to spend on, but I needed it.

{A Few Days Later} {1st Person POV}

"Congratulations on selling your scripts, Oliver." Congratulated uncle David. I was currently in my uncle's office again, and I was really happy.

The scripts were finally sold! I finally got the money I needed.

I read the contract a lot of times before signing it, checking for some loopholes.

It felt nice knowing that I had a million dollars; Which I was about to use to make a movie.

"Thank you, uncle." I bowed. "If it wasn't for your help, I wouldn't have gotten the funds for my movie."

"Ah, c'mon. There's no need for you to do this." He gestured me to stop bowing, and I did so. "You're a pretty good writer, y'know? I'm sure your father would be proud knowing that his son is such a great screenwriter."

I smiled at said, "You're flattering me. I'm not that great."

"Ahahahaha, I see you're already becoming humble. That's a good attitude." He patted my back.

"Anyways," he continued. " How's the pre-production going?"

"It's going pretty nicely. I've got a small theatre booked for Sunday. I need to spread awareness about the audition though. Can you help me?"

Uncle David smirked and said, " I sure can."

{Sunday, June 10th, 2007}

The day of the audition was finally here.

With the help of uncle, I was able to get a website and some posters to raise some awareness about the audition.

The theatre I rented for today was just the right size. Not too big, nor too small.

I was currently sitting on a chair, with a pen in my hand.

I was writing down how I wanted the scenes to be shot. Afterall, you can't remember everything. This would also show the crew that I knew what I was doing, and wasn't some naïve kid who thought that I would be able remember everything.

I recently bought a skill called 'Basic Cinematography' and 'Basic Editing', which cost me 3,900 points total. It was quite cheap. This helped me immensely in understanding how cinematography and editing worked.

And yes, I would edit the movie myself and maybe get someone else to help,  but I would still get a Cinematographer.

As I was waiting, people started walking in.

It was currently 10:34 A.M. Quite early, but I did it to get the audition over with quickly.

More and more started joining, going from about 16 to nearly 120, all of whom looked C-tier actors.

I'm not complaining though.

'System, open the skill shop.' I mentally ordered it.

Scrolling down the page, I found the skill I was looking for, 'Basic Acting.'

 'This'll come in handy.'

And so, I purchased it. It cost me 1,300 points., about the same as 'Basic Editing.'

Information about acting started filling my brain. I immediately clutched my head due to the pain.

After a few seconds, the pain went away and I released my hand.

"You okay?" asked a deep voice, which was very soothing to my ears.

I looked at the man dressed in a suit to my left.

He was here from the Screenwriter's Guild of America (A/N: Yes, it's a real thing, please don't ask me) to oversee the audition.

"I'm fine. Just had a little headache." I replied.

"I see." He hummed.

I looked at all the candidates. Many of them will return home disappointed, crying even.

My expressions turned sad.

'I feel sorry for you guys.'

*Sigh* I changed my thoughts to something else. Something that was quite important.

I'd need a really good actor for Laurie Strode. Afterall, she IS the main character, even if most people will show up for Michael Myers and not her.

For Michael, I'm thinking of getting a pretty physically fit person. In the original movie, Michael was played by two different actors; One who played the unmasked Michael , and the other who played the masked one. But I'm not doing that. I'll just get one person.

The auditions started, and people started coming one after the other. However, none of them were really talented or great. They were very amateurish, to say the least.

There were some who were very arrogant and demanded that I let them act in the movie. I declined as politely as I could, to which most of them got angry and left. Many would cry after getting rejected

There were also a few who tried to seduce me but I stopped them and kicked them out. Afterall, Harassment is not a good thing.

But that's how Hollywood is: Immoral and corrupt. It doesn't matter how big you get, because you'll still need to do something like seducing someone.

And that's something I didn't want to do. But it would be very tough to avoid.

After sitting on the chair for well over three hours, my back started to hurt.

By this point, I had gotten most of the supporting roles, but the main ones of Laurie Strode and Dr. Samuel were not found yet. Michael Myers wasn't really that important because he didn't really do much other than walk slowly and stab people.

It was already lunch time too, and I was getting anxious.

'What if I couldn't find a good actor for both?' was the thought that was flying in my mind. Renting this place wasn't cheap, so renting it for another day would be hard.

I had to get the two lead roles somehow by the end of the day.

After finishing my lunch, I called the next person.

Standing infront of me was a person who looked to be in his early-to-mid 40s. His name was Peter Gray, and he looked the role of Dr. Samuel, but I was a little skeptical.

Looks didn't really mean anything if his acting skills weren't good.

I asked him to act out the scene where Dr. Samuel finds his car while talking to the police on the phone.

This scene would show me clearly just how good he is at acting scared and surprised.

As soon as Peter started acting the scene, he surprised me.

The acting was on point. He was able to perfectly show the desperation in Dr. Samuel's voice, aswell as his surprise at finding his car through his facial expressions rather than words.

"You... hit the jackpot." Said the SAG agent.

I gazed at him, and I was surprised that he was smiling. I thought he didn't give a shit.

However, I couldn't help but smile at his comment. I had indeed hit the jackpot. I finally got an actor for one of the three main characters.

"Alright, stop." Peter looked at me, waiting for me to say something more,. Then his expressions twisted to that of fear.

"D-did I get rejected?" He asked in a terrified face.

"Nope. Infact, you're hired." I said with a smile.

Peter immediately started tearing up a little.

"Are you serious? Are you pulling a prank on me?" He asked.

"I'm not, and why would I lie? I want to direct a movie, y'know." I siad. "Anyways, welcome to the team for Halloween." I extended my hand for a handshake, which Peter returned.

"After the audition is done, please give me your phone number and meet me at the Café. I'll send you the address."

Peter nodded.

"Phew. Just one more to go." I murmured.

"It's been quite the tiring day, eh?" Asked the SAG agent.

"Yeah." I replied.

And so, continued the audition to find an actor for Laurie Strode.

After some more time, a women with long blonde hair, wearing a small coat and jeans came up and handed me her portfolio.

Looking at it, her name was Emily Carter. She was 23 years old, blah blah blah. However, what caught my eye was that she was a graduate from American Film Institute.

Most people auditioning were graduates from film schools, but they were only minor/small ones. AFI was pretty big.

She also played in a few individuals movies already, though only as an extra.

'Atleast she has experience.'

I started asking her the basic questions any interviewer would ask, and she answered them diligently.

Finally, I asked her to act out the scene where Laurie finds her friends dead body.

She took some time to start, but then she started acting.

Her face suddenly turned into that of shock and horror, and started crying while walking here and there trying to run away.

"That's enough." I said, almost a whisper, but still audible.

Emily looked at me and asked. "Did I pass?"

"Yes." As soon as these words left my mouth, she started to tear up.

"I-I... can I get a moment?" She asked teary eyed.

"Sure." I replied.

'It's done. It's over.'

"Haaa, finally." I stretched hands and legs.

The SAG agent got up from his seat.

"Welp, looks like it's over. I've done my job, so I'll be taking my leave." He then smiled and said, "Hope you can release your movie. These are some very talented people."

Saying that, he walked out of the theatre.

People that were still waiting for their turn started to leave after I announced that the audition was over.

I was alone now.

"Finally! Ouch." I looked at my back and massaged it a little.

"My back hurts a lot. Sigh."

Now I just needed to get the camera crew.

Wait, what was the name of that SAG agent?
