When I first started the tape, I heard a grunt followed by loud bangs. A deep voice rang out, full of menace. "Talk or I'll slit your throat and mail your blood and eye sockets to your wife and kids!" The words hung heavy in the air. There were sounds of panting, crying, and desperate pleas.
"Please, please, please—" A sharp slap or punch echoed through the recording. "Talk!" The same man shouted. Then there was a pause, followed by a strained voice. "Okay! I will," the detective said, clearly rattled. "Say your full government name," the man said, his tone cold. "Eddy Ross," the detective said.
