Chapter 56 - Meng Yao

In a chamber adorned with flickering candles, Wei Ning Zhi sat on a cushioned chair, her brows slightly furrowed in thought. Opposite her, the twelve years old Wei Liuxian reclined on a divan, a serene smile gracing his lips. Beside him, Meng Yao, the nine years old ever-curious scholar, perched on a stool, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.

Wei Ning Zhi's gaze settled firmly on Wei Liuxian. "Brother," she began, her voice carrying a mixture of amusement and reproach, "why did you not inform me of Jiang Xicheng's return? He had been attending my calligraphy classes. What if I had punished him with other students?'' 

Wei Liuxian's laughter tinkled like wind chimes, his almond-shaped eyes twinkling mischievously. "My dear sister, forgive me for the oversight," he responded, his tone light. "I meant to tell you, but the whirlwind of events took me away."
