Chapter 5 - The queen's doing

Seeing the bond between the siblings made them feel at ease because they knew that no one would be able to break it that easily.

"Myalis, it will be your turn soon," Her father said as her brother raised off of her and she sighed then looked at the stone from afar and scoffed.

"All right, I will go now," She said.

"Good luck, you got this, just stay cool," Her brother replied, she thanked him then left the room, heading to the stone.

When the girl reached the stone, she gave it a second glance before sighing and looking up at the window. Her brother then turned to face her and smiled, instructing her to calm down and take a deep breath before touching the stone.

Seeing how her brother was made her relax and she smiled before doing as he instructed, then gently pressed her hand against the barrier and her mother's eyes widened when she saw a different color began forming within the crystal and her eyes shook as Myalis peeked at the color within the stone.

Myalis wondered what was going on and her mother began breathing heavily then she gnashed her teeth and her eyes began glowing blue and she created another barrier before the crystal.

Because of the crystal she created, the others saw the crystal as normal, in the state that they first found it and didn't see the color change, Myalis, and her mother was the only ones seeing it.

The king and the others looked at each other believing that Myalis didn't receive a talent and that's exactly what the queen wanted.

Myalis exited the room with the intention of telling them what talent she got but when she returned to the room she saw them looking at her with pity in their eyes and she stepped one step back.

Her mother took the barrier down and her brother approached her and she glanced at him as he grabbed her by her arm, pulling her into a hug.

"I am sorry that you didn't receive a talent, but it's okay..." He said and Myalis's eyes widened, she didn't know what to say and wanted to know why they thought she didn't awaken a talent.

When her brother raised off of her, her father and grandfather approached her and she looked at them.

"I am sorry, sweetheart," Her father said and she was about to say something when her mother waved at her from behind them and she looked at her then her mother rushed to her and hugged her tightly.

"Mom..." She mumbled.

"Don't say anything about your talent, I will explain, for now, please, I am begging you, sweetheart, please..." She said as she raised off of the princess and the girl left staring at her mother's trembling eyes, then she lowered her head and nodded and her mother patted her on the head.

The princess wondered why her mother did that, but she made the decision to hold her tongue for the time being in light of her mother's expression of fear and desperation which were within her eyes at the moment.

"You will be fine, don't look so sad, you still have a life, maybe you will get one later on or so, kiddo," Her grandfather said and she smiled at him, then he patted her on the head.

"It's okay, even without a talent one could survive and live a more than good life, am I right?" She asked and her brother wrapped his arm around her neck, she looked at him then he smiled.

"You are right, that's the brave sister I grew up with," He responded and she chuckled then her mother smiled at her and she patted her mother on the shoulder.

"We cannot leave until everyone has taken their turn, which means we will be here until night, I will go get a drink in the meantime, I will be right back," Myalis said.

"All right, but, be careful," Her father replied and she nodded, then left the room and went down to where everyone else was and looked at the ones who were going to do the ritual as well.

Myalis left the building and went to a busy cafe nearby. However, before going inside, she took a mask out of her pocket because she didn't want anyone to see her because they would question her about what type of talent she awakened.

She found a way to just avoid anyone with questions because she knew she wouldn't be able to respond to them due to what her mother did, and she didn't want to be weird about it.

The girl went into the cafe, bought a cappuccino, and then left. As she was leaving, she ran into a guy. She apologized and he smiled then looked at her eyes and her eyes narrowed; she felt awkward and just walked away, and a smirk appeared on his face as he turned to look at her.

"Miss," He said and she stopped then turned around and looked at him.

"How can I help you?" She asked.

"Why are you wearing a mask? You look familiar," He responded and she exhaled deeply and looked at him sternly.

"Please mind your own business," She said as she was about to walk away, he grabbed onto her shoulder and she turned around and grabbed onto his arm and flipped him over.

With how fast she flipped him over, he landed hard on his back and she pressed him down with her feet while others looked on.

"I told you to mind your own business; getting on my nerves is never good," She said when she heard someone calling her name and looked up to see her brother approaching her, his eyes narrowing as he looked at the guy under her feet.

"What's going on here?" He asked as she moved her feet off of the guy and he took a deep breath.

"It's nothing, go," She said then the guy got up and left after which her brother sighed and looked at her.

"Are you okay?" He asked while staring at the mask and she smiled then took the mask off.

"He was only being curious, so don't worry too much; I can protect myself. Want some?" He nodded in response to her question, took a sip of the cappuccino, thanked her, and handed it back.

"You're welcome. Since it's almost night, could we please go home?" She asked as he turned to face the building and saw that everyone was leaving, he grabbed her hand and pulled her along with him and at the same time, her family came out of the building and smiled when they saw them.

"Shall we go home?" Her father asked and they nodded.

Myalis looked at a few people around her who were crying, her mother's eyes glowed red as she looked at her daughter and a frown appeared on her face.
