Chapter 55 - In sight of the mountaintop

Logan Hunter followed Amelia, but Quinn Cooper's confident command rang out from far away. "Logan Hunter, why are you still with Amelia? Hurry up and lead the way up front."

Of the whole group, only Logan Hunter had the best stamina. But now, Quinn Cooper turned around and saw Logan Hunter standing still like a fool, following Amelia. This made Quinn Cooper angry. Now that everyone was listening to her, she spoke with a righteous tone.

"I'm not going!" Logan Hunter answered roughly.

Quinn Cooper frowned, sneered and raised her voice sharply. "How dare you not listen to me? Oh! Could it be that you've taken a liking to Amelia? You actually find that kind of woman attractive? Your taste isn't very good, be careful she drags you down."

Logan Hunter's face turned red. He thought Quinn Cooper's words were too harsh. How could she say such things? He looked over at Amelia, who didn't react, and ignored Quinn Cooper. Instead, he stood obediently behind Amelia.

Quinn Cooper felt that since Amelia refused to change the route, it was enough to leave her behind. But Logan Hunter had stayed by Amelia's side. Perhaps it was a kind of jealousy that came from a girl's nature. Amelia hadn't done anything, but Quinn Cooper found her extremely unpleasant!

She should be the little princess that everyone protected, and what was Amelia? Humph!

"Aren't you going with them?" When the crowd had moved far away, Amelia asked calmly.

Logan Hunter shook his head repeatedly.

"Okay, then come with me and wait for the team to come back," Amelia said calmly.

Logan Hunter didn't understand what Amelia meant, but he nodded and walked from behind Amelia to in front of her. He held a sturdy stick and offered it to Amelia.

"You...you can use this stick to walk!" Logan Hunter stuttered.

He had been following Amelia all along and naturally saw that her foot was severely injured. He wanted to carry her, but Amelia's aloof and rejecting attitude made him realize that it was not practical. So he walked in front of her and used the stick to support her, hoping to make her feel a little easier.

Logan Hunter's mind was straightforward, without much convolution. He felt that Amelia had saved him and therefore, he wanted to help her too. He had become the only person supporting Amelia at this point.

Logan's attitude had changed significantly. He had previously suggested abandoning Amelia for a better chance of success, but now he had almost forgotten about the trial altogether. He did not regret his decision because only those who have experienced the fear of being a millimeter away from death, with the cold jaws of a wolf nearing their neck, can understand. But Amelia had saved him.

At this moment, Amelia finally lifted her almond-shaped eyes and looked at the dark and tall figure of Logan Hunter. Her cold expression softened slightly as she thought for a moment and reached for the wooden stick.

It must be said that the feeling of having someone believe in you unconditionally, when the whole world doesn't, is quite nice.

As they walked slowly, stopping occasionally because of Amelia's injured foot, there was no sense of urgency. But would Amelia really be willing to be abandoned like this? How could she be so sure that the team would come back for her?

Ha, she had always been a proud and aloof person. Except for Tyler, she did not think that she needed to be subservient, nor would she cater to anyone. Did these people really think that abandoning her and changing their route would lead to a better outcome?

When they separated, she had looked at Quinn Cooper's route map. Besides a total wipeout, the only other option was to turn back. She had given them advice, but they did not listen. What else could she do?

Moreover, did these classmates really think that their good luck was due to a smooth journey? No, it was due to the insect repellent powder that she had kept open and in her hands throughout the journey.

Now, she had not done anything extraordinary, but she just had not told them this fact. In these mountains, the thing that was least scarce was snakes, insects, rats, and ants. Hehe!

...

"Ah, how can there be bugs!"

"Ew, gross, get it off quickly!"

"Help! It's a snake! I accidentally stepped on its tail. Waa, don't bite me!"

Quinn Cooper's team was at a loss for words as they progressed forward. Aside from various disgusting bugs, there were many mosquitoes in the mountains, and they were large. After being bitten, it was painful and itchy!

The boys were somewhat better and could tolerate it, but the girls were screaming all the way, tormented by the mosquito bites.

This time, Quinn Cooper didn't need to pretend to be weak; she was scared, and her face was pale. She had been bitten on her right eye, and her upper eyelid was swollen high, which looked quite comical. Her arms were also scratched red, which destroyed her delicate and fragile appearance.

Quinn Cooper couldn't help but scream, thinking about how they weren't bothered by mosquitoes when Amelia was around, and becoming increasingly annoyed. "It must be Amelia, it must be her doing, ah! When the trial is over, I won't let her get away with this."

This time, no one echoed her, as everyone was too preoccupied to have the energy to curse at anyone.

Quinn Cooper felt like she couldn't breathe, her right eye was both painful and itchy, and she could hardly keep it open.

As they continued to scream and move forward, their speed was actually slower than when they had Amelia with them, making it even more difficult to travel than before because of these pesky bugs.

The dense forest blocked out the sunlight, leaving only small rays of light shining through the branches, making the scenery quite beautiful. But no one was in the mood to appreciate it, as they were all sitting on the ground panting. The girls were on the verge of a breakdown.

"I can't go on anymore. I'm done," one girl said, sitting on the ground. Her hand was covered in mosquito bites that were almost bleeding from scratching.

"I'm not going on anymore either. If we keep going like this, I'm going to be disfigured before we even finish the trial," another girl screamed.

The boys' faces weren't any better, but they all held back from venting their frustrations.

Quinn Cooper's face was extremely ugly. The route they had chosen this time was planned by her, and the actions of these people now felt like a slap in the face. How could she not be as good as that woman, Amelia?

Wyatt Parker frowned, looking a bit angry. "Get up first. Maybe this part of the road is just difficult to walk. If we stay here, it might be even more dangerous."

It was not advisable to argue with Wyatt Parker, so the two girls finally stood up again and continued to move forward. Although they continued to move forward, many people had already started to feel hesitant and dissatisfied.

"Wow, look over there, I see the mountain top!" an excited voice of a girl suddenly shouted.

Everyone who was dispirited couldn't help but turn their heads to look. Through the cracks in the tree branches, they could actually see the mountain top, which was not far away from them and very clear.

This was like a beacon of light in the dark night, illuminating all the lost souls. Their hopelessness turned into excitement as they realized that their destination was right in front of them.
