Marqs walked for a while down the road and he never saw much. Other than the occasional anime or beast, but he avoided fighting whenever he could. Slowly eating away his supply if fruits he is left with 3, however each fruit can last hime for hours on end, and he didn't know how or why but he decided not to question it.
eventually, after walking for around for 14 hours he saw something, a little village not far off from the road. 'My luck is astronomical today!' he thinks to himself as he walks down to the village. There are no walls to keep the village safe and one could see that it obviously isn't the wealthiest place either.
He didn't care though, as it was a safe place nonetheless. As he approached 2 guards spotted him and started to question him.
"Hello sir, could you please lend me your ID so that I may verify you?" the first guard asked. this guard was outfitted with alot of leather armor and few pieces of what looked to be iron, and the other guard didn't look too different.
"My ID?" marqs asked but the guards gave him a puzzled look. "uhm sir, if you could please use the common language that would be ideal" he said in a pleading tone. "common language? but I only know english." he had said back but the guard obviously didn't understand him.
he looked to the other guard who shrugged in response and told guard 1 that he would be right back, as he walked off the guard that was still there started to ask some more questions, this time in a Yes or No format.
"do you speak common?" marqs shook his head no. "ok. then clearly you can understand it right?" he shook his head yes "good. then this will be a whole lot easier" he said
As the guard returned he brought with him a old looking man who looks like he wouldn't even survive the wind of a fan. 'this must be their chief, I'm guessing' marqs thinks to himself before hearing what the old man has to say "so you don't speak common, eh?" Marqs shook his head. "well then what do you want? I have a translating stone right here so that you can be understood, so speak your mind child." he said will looking expectantly at marqs.
"I'm here because I am lost and need a safe place to rest. I can even work if you have any job!" marqs said excitedly and the elder ponders for a moment before saying "well then what can you do for work?" marqs racks his brain thinking of the useful qualities of himself before he says " I can do pretty much anything requiring manual labor, as you can see from my height and decent muscles" he said proudly
The elder looked at him and then said "that's good, we are short of hands at the moment and could use all the help we can get." he said and paused before continuing. "you see, one of our most trusted lumberjacks who gathers the wood for most of the village, has recently gotten attacked." he looks sad but regains his composure "He can't chop no more and we need someone to replace him. unfortunately most of us haven't the body or strength, and we have no mages here either."
marqs then says to the old man "I would be happy to help you guys out" and the old man smiles "good then come on in and get settled. you can start work tomorrow, and you will be paid for your work of course." he says and marqs asks him " how much exactly?" the elder tells him that he will be paid based on work not salary but if he were to work as good as the previous lumberjack he would earn on average a silver a week.
Marqs has no idea what the currency system is and asks him if that's alot, to which the elder responds " it takes 2 copper to feed yourself a meal, so you tell me." he says and marqs explains he has no idea what the currency means. The elder says " 100 Copper to 1 silver and 100 silver to 1 gold, that's the system."
Marqs is then guided to his work place and new house and given a tour. he is then told that he will start tomorrow and his expected quota is 200 logs atleast a foot wide. then he is left alone and he decides to check out his items from the fight.
