Lucy was the first one to recover. She moved behind a bit, and got up from her rotating chair 💺 . She started looking at the walls 🧱 instead of his seducing eyes.
"Ummm...sorry", said Adrian, moving back.
"It's ok", said Lucy, awkwardly. She did not know what to say.
"You know Australia won the cricket cup", said Adrian.
"Yeah, I saw that blonde captain with the cup. He looks nice", said Lucy.
"He looks like a white kangaroo if you ask me. I mean he can't even stand properly", said Adrian, suddenly irritated.
"I see no problem on the way he stands", said Lucy, "He 's quite elegant".
"Hey, he's not even that good. I mean he's just a cricketer. His bowling is so pathetic", said Adrian, somewhat jealous.
"He wouldn't be the captain if he was pathetic", said Lucy ,"And he's quite young".
"He's twenty eight, that's not young. And he already is married. He even has a daughter", said Adrian.
"I never said that I find him attractive, and from what I know, he's divorced also", said Lucy, coldly.
"Yeah, you know that our company once went into loads of trouble ", said Adrian, changing the subject.
"Not at all unexpected, with you as it's boss", said Lucy.
"Yeah, but we pretty soon got a good buisness opportunity and we recovered ", said Adrian,"So , no harm done at all".
"Don't you have something more interesting to say? Or everything you say is as useless as you?", asked Lucy.
"Watch who you're calling useless ", said Adrian, furiously,"I have been trying not to pick a fight with you and remain calm, but if you've made your mind to annoy me..."
"You are the one annoying. First, you disturb me when I am doing my projects, then you come to my office and strike the most boring topics ever and yeah, the most annoying thing is your face. You think that having a handsome, attractive face means that you can do anything..", she broke off at this moment, realising what she had said.
"Ha..You called me handsome. You just said that I am attractive. I always knew that you had designs for me, from the moment you had kissed me", said Adrian.
"I ..I..my tongue 👅 slipped", said Lucy, blushing deeply.
"Didn't look like it", said Adrian, shrugging.
Lucy was saved from giving an explanation by a phone call, from her mother-in-law. She quickly turned to the other side, and breathed a sigh of relief before picking up the phone.
"Lucy, I suppose you are not busy, are you?", asked she.
"No, not at all. Anything important?", she asked.
"Yes, very important. But , first tell me , did Adrian give you the food which I asked him to. You know he's quite a naughty and disobedient kid and he's always busy with one thing or the other ".
"He did give me the food, and he's sitting in front of me at the moment. He's been irritating with stupid stories", added Lucy, with contempt hidden in her voice.
"Oh, don't mind him at all. He's rather boring and uninteresting , but his good looks will make up for it, I guess. He's quite charming and nice deep down even though he does not show it ", said she, making Lucy go red again.
"Yeah, right", said Lucy.
"Anyway, put the call on loudspeaker. I want to talk to both of you", said Adrian's mom.
Lucy turned towards Adrian and said," It's your mom".
"What happened? Is there an attack or something? Is someone in trouble?", he fired.
"Nope, she just wants to talk to us", said Lucy, putting the phone on loudspeaker and bringing it between them.
"Hello, Adrian, are you there?", asked she.
"Yes, I am here", replied Adrian.
"Listen quietly, ok. I want you both to come a bit early today. I was thinking that I would be able to do it all but I will need help with the preparations ", said Adrian's mom," Everyone is helping, and we've invited some of Lia's friends and your friends too including Achilles but it would still be good if you'll help and of course, we need to decide your dresses."
"Umm..sorry to interrupt, but what exactly are we talking about?", asked Lucy.
"I don't remember a birthday or anniversary today either ", agreed Adrian.
"Your wedding reception, of course. Honestly, you two.... I reckon Lia was right about you after all, workaholics ...you both are", said she, sounding amazed.
"No, mum... actually, we thought it was tomorrow, I will try to come at five....but I am not sure and I certainly won't be able to come earlier than that".
"It's alright, I know you've a lot of work pressure. Lucy...you also try to come before six, so that you can help in the finishing.... about the dress?",.
"No need to think a lot about it, I know you have a good choice , you can choose for me and him, I am sure he won't mind either", said Lucy.
"Correct ", said Adrian.
"Ok, then. Take care, best of luck with your work, and come early", said she, and disconnected the call.
