For a moment, nobody was able to move. Then Athena and Achilles simultaneously came towards both of them who were still lying behind the wreckage. There was a buzzing sound as everyone was recovering from the shock and admiring Lucy for her braveness and presence of mind.
Adrian got up slowly. His inner soul wanted to remain like that, staring into Lucy's eyes forever but his brain managed to gain control and he got up.
Lucy was still processing what had happened. She did not realise when she had pushed her husband out of the way to prevent him from being crushed under the chandelier. She had excellent reflexes from a very young age but she had never used them to save anyone till now. She looked at her hands, as if asking them how did she do it.
Adrian's mother came sliding into his view. His face was white and pale because of witnessing the incident. She shuddered thinking what would have happened if Lucy had not acted at the correct moment. Quite unexpectedly, she flung her arms around Lucy and hugged her tightly. Lucy was taken by her motherly affection and hugged her back.
She broke the hug and said," Lucy, I am so glad that I chose you to be my daughter-in-law because you are really the best. I am so grateful to you for saving him by risking your life. I will be in your debt till my last breath".
"What are you saying mom? What debt? We're all part of one family. It was my duty", she said, in a consoling voice.
"At least you should say a thank you", said Lia, confronting Adrian.
"These things can be discussed later on.....the most important thing is ...how did the chandelier fall?", said Achilles.
"It can't fall by accident. I mean look at its weight, there would have been pretty good arrangements to keep it there. It was deliberately cut off", said Athena.
"It was a murder attempt....and it looks like the person was only interested in killing Adrian, I mean it smashed right after I got up", said Lucy, pointing out.
"It must have been someone present in the house right now. I mean they made it fall right after she got up. We might be able to find them", said Adrian, seriously.
"You two go", said Adrian's mother , pointing to Athena and Achilles," The ceremony should be finished and then we call the police".
"Come ", said Achilles, and taking Athena's hand he led her upwards.
Everyone enjoyed the food which was prepared, and Lucy spent the whole evening greeting all the guests and talking to them.
After the evening, everyone was accommodated in specific rooms as they were not allowed to go before they found the culprit.
Adrian and Lucy stood in the hall where she called the police. The police arrived half an hour later.
""These type of incidents are not common in the Smith mansion. These used to happen when we took in Adrian too, but they stopped ", stated Adrian's mother.
"Of course, do you have any suspects? Any buisness rival of Mr Smith who has been invited to the party? Or maybe anyone who wants him killed?", the inspector, questioned.
"No, we don't invite people from Adrian's work except from some really close friends of his and Achilles. And only some relatives were invited today" , she replied.
"Mrs Adrian Smith , do you have invited any of your business rivals or somebody who particularly hates you?", the inspector asked.
It took a while for Lucy to realise that he was talking to her. She was not accustomed to being called 'Mrs Adrian Smith' yet.
"I've not invited anyone from my side and mother already told you that the person was after Adrian not me", she replied.
"Mr Smith, er...do you have any ex? Someone who you were in relationship with but then broke up with her", said inspector, addressing him .
"He's just like a baby. He's never dated anyone in his life. I don't think he met more than twice with Lucy before his marriage", laughed his mother.
"As there are no suspects, our only chance are CCTV footages. We can do that part tomorrow", said the inspector.
"What about the guests?", asked Adrian's mother.
"Have you kept a record of every person who has been invited?", the inspector, asked.
"Naturally ",she answered.
"Then, you can let them go. It's quite alright. Meanwhile, you recover the footages" , he said and went away.
Lucy and Adrian walked upto their room. Lucy was feeling exhausted. However, as soon as she entered the house, Adrian pinned her to the wall and whispered, "Why did you save me?".
