After strolling past several buildings, Miles finally found the location of his dorm. When he entered his room, he discovered that he would be sharing the room with two other boys. They had already arrived a bit earlier than he was, and they had been busy unpacking their luggage before he arrived.
Miles ignored their stares when he opened the door that attracted their attention. He just shut the door and casually strolled to the empty bed in the corner of the room and began unpacking his stuff too.
The trio remained silent in the room for a couple of minutes. However, the serene moment was broken by one of the boys who walked up to Miles.
"Hello, I'm Shane and that dude over there is Brian. Since we would all be roommates I thought it would be appropriate to introduce ourselves and get along well."
"Miles, it's nice to meet you as well," Miles replied without sparing a glance.
Shane smiled in response. "Pleasure."
"Hey Brian, say hi to Miles as well."
Shane called out but he was utterly ignored.
Shane shifted his gaze back to Miles and smiled. "Please don't mind that. Brian is actually a shy person, but he is definitely not an unpleasant person and I can vouch for that because we have been friends since fifth grade."
Miles nodded in understanding, although in reality he wasn't even bothered by Bryan's attitude.
"Perhaps you need some help with that," he suggested while pointing at Miles' luggage. "I'm done with mine so I thought I could help." Shane suggested.
"Thanks but I'm alright here." Miles politely refused.
"Give him some space Shane, besides he didn't ask for your help anyway, so stop being so nosy." Brian said in an irritated tone.
Shane noticed that his childhood best friend was in a foul mood. He left Miles' side and walked closer to Brian.
"What is wrong with you and why are you using that tone to talk to him?" Shane whispered.
"Nothing is wrong with me but I can't say the same for you dude " Brian retorted.
"It was obvious that I was just being nice to him. Was that so difficult for your dumb brain to figure out?" Shane snapped.
"Nice huh, but if you wanted to be nice then you should have offered to help me unpack instead and besides he rubs me off in the wrong way." Brian complained.
"He rubs you off the wrong way?" Shane asked rhetorically. "What did he do?"
"Didn't you see the way he walked into the room without even acknowledging our presence in the room? I don't know about you but I feel like he sees us as someone below his class." Brian took a quick glance and sneered in disgust."
Shane silently chuckled when he heard Bryan's comment.
"What's so funny to you?" Brian frowned.
"Calm down bro, I understand where all of this is actually coming from." Shane placed his arm across Brian's shoulders and pulled him closer. "Let's get to know him well enough before we judge him and whether you like it or not we are going to be living together for a while so won't it be better if we get along?"
"You must apologise to him Bryan." Shane said in a dead-panned tone.
It took Brian a moment to reconsider his actions before he came to a conclusion. Eventually, he realized that he was a bit unfair in his judgement of Miles. "Alright, but I can't promise to be nice to him if he keeps acting up." Brian agreed.
Even though they were both whispering throughout the entire conversation Miles could still hear them both clearly. But as usual he was totally unbothered by it. After all everyone has a right to their own opinions. He also wasn't here to make friends or prove anything to anybody.
In any case, he wouldn't lie low if someone pushed him past his bottom line.
"I'm sorry if I appeared rude earlier." Brian walked towards Miles and apologized.
"It's fine, you don't have to take it that far because you haven't directly offended me in any way." Miles responded.
"I'm Brian and although I can't say it was pleasant to meet you, I do hope we get along well."
Miles nodded at Brain's gesture. "Same"
Shane clapped. "Okay, now that the issue is settled, let's change the topic.
"Miles, did you also apply to the academy with a friend?" Shane questioned curiously.
"No, I don't know anyone in the academy." Miles responded.
"Well, I guess you're in luck since you'll be sharing a room with the coolest dudes on campus." Shane joked. "Since everyone is done unpacking why don't we all have a stroll around? I have been dying to see what other parts of the academy look like especially the stadium. Apparently, it has state-of-the-art technology." Shane remarked enthusiastically.
Bang!! Bang!! Bang!!
The sudden outburst of loud noises outside their room caught the attention of all three of them before either Miles or Brian could give a response to Shane's suggestions.
"What the hell is that noise?" Shane complained.
BANG!!!
The noise sounded again but it was much louder this time around.
"Screw this!" Brian shouted as he walked out of the room to check the situation. When he opened the door, he wasn't expecting the scene before him.
"What the hell is going on here?" Brian muttered.
"They were too anxious to wait till the next day." Miles smiled inwardly as he thought.
Shane became curious about what was going on outside. Consequently, he also walked out of the room and was shocked by the scene just like Brian.
Miles was now also intrigued to find out what was happening, especially after seeing the expressions both Shane and Brian had on their faces. He also walked outside the room and was surprised.
Just like Miles, Shane and Brian many other students were also standing outside their respective rooms watching the scene.
A boy was standing among several wounded students lying on the ground. He had a wicked smile on his face and his fist was stained with blood. It was obvious that he was responsible for this entire predicament.
"I'm Matthew Reynolds." The boy began to speak to the crowd that had gathered.
As soon as the boy mentioned his name, murmurs could be heard from most of the students.
"Yes, you all heard it right, so I'm not going to repeat myself. Now that I have your full attention I hereby appointing myself as the head of this dorm."
Matthew announcement created another uproar amongst the entire crowd of students.
"You don't have to like it or accept it either, if you have any opposition about it then you can step out now to challenge me for it. However I must warn you that if you dare then you would risking yourself to be in the same condition at this fools lying on the ground. But I doubt anybody here have the guts."
Nobody truly had the willpower to fight Matthew as they were demoralized after seeing the terrible conditions on the students lying on the ground. They were too afraid to end in that same condition.
"Yeah, I thought so too." Matthew sneered when he saw that nobody stepped out.
Meanwhile, at the back of the crowd Shane was struggling to hold back Brian who wanted to accept Matthew challenge.
"Let go off me Shane." Brian said as he kept trying to free himself from Shane's grasp.
"Nope, you're not doing this today?" Shane refused and tightened his grip around Brian.
"Why won't let me fight that stupid bastard when he was actually asking for it? He thinks that just because he is stronger than rest of us, he can do whatever he wants? Let me at him." Brian kept ranting.
Shane successfully pulled Bryan back into the room before releasing him and giving him a response to his question.
"Because this doesn't concern and it isn't your fight. Why are trying to get yourself involved in such a messy issue."
"Didn't you see the way he brutally beat up those boys lying on the ground and he had the guts to claim his the head if the dorm. Someone has to stop him."
Shane sighed in frustration. "And why does it have to be you, even if you beat him can you handle the consequences that would after that. Sometimes you should stop to think before you act, there is a reason why nobody is stepping out and that's because of his family." Shane pointed out the facts before walking away.
"Is what your even doing permitted? What do you think will happen if the officials finds about this?" A student shouted from the crowd.
"Ha!, don't you think they should have been here by now afterall there are several CCTV around. They're probably watching us right this moment." Matthew pointed to the cameras hanging on the wall.
"Fools, the same is probably happening in the other dorms and as the most elite students among you all in this dorm, it is only right for me to be the leader." Matthew laughed wickedly.
"I don't care whatever you all think about me, but I'm now the head of this dorm and long as I'm the head of this dorm, you do what I want when I say I want it." Mathew began to lay his ground rules in front of the crowd who couldn't refute his any of his words.
