Chapter 16 - 16

Sofia.

Nial was the one to sigh and get up, stomped his way to type in the code and unlocking the door for the new incomer.

I looked over the door to see a beautiful woman maybe in her late forties, with brown hair and brown eyes showing her evident concern and anger. She had Nial's eyes was the only thing I noted.

She strode into the room, her hands shaking at her sides, eyes blazing with concern and discernible anger.

"Γιατί διάολο δεν άκουσα από κανέναν ότι επέστρεψες; και γιατί στο διάολο δεν απαντούσες στις κλήσεις μου, νόμιζα ότι κάτι σου συνέβη-" she shouted out but soon became aware of my presence and paused to eye me with a curious yet skeptic look etched on her face.

(Why the hell haven't I heard from anyone that you came back? and why the fuck didn't you answer my calls, I thought something happened to you-)

"Who are you?" That was the first thing that she said to me. Her eyes were hard as steel and her mouth pursed into a thin line expressing her irritation.

"I-uh I'm Sofia?" I countered questioningly, my voice breathy and face flushed.

She looked me over, head to toe, focusing on the marks that adorned the observable skin and I saw a sly smirk pull up at the corners of her lips making my blush tenfold.

That was very freaking weird.

Sensing my discomfort, Nikolai stood up and hugged the mystery woman lightly, and his brothers did the same, murmuring their greetings and apologies.

"This is our aunt, Anastasia, she's one of the people that we wanted you to meet-" Nial introduced with soft eyes, pausing for Nadei to continue "-this is Sofia, our fiancee, тетя." (Auntie)

Fiancee my ass.

"It's nice to meet you, Ma'am," I politely clarified.

My hand extended for a handshake but she surprised me by pulling me into a warm embrace, her 5'8 frame towering over my 5'2 in a bone-crushing hug.

Was everyone in this damn mansion a giant?

"It's nice to meet you as well, αγαπητός. You can call me Ana," she squeezed my shoulder reassuringly. (dear)

Pulling out of the hug, I caught the trio with their mouths agape and eyes wide, staring at their aunt as if she had two heads.

Interesting.

"Why are looking at me like that?" Anastasia stated bluntly, eyes narrowed to slits, and her hands on her hips looking like a mother about to scold her kids.

Oh, this is gonna be good, I smirked internally.

"Why are you being so nice?" Nadei murmured looking at his aunt with a frown etched on his face.

"Psht, I'm always nice," she retorted glancing at me for a brief moment with a small smile.

Simulationasly rolling their eyes, they let out at the same time, "No you're not."

I giggled when she smacked each one of them, groans and protests leaving them as they clutched the back of their heads mumbling incoherent words.

I fucking loved this woman.

"Would you like to join me for a drink, Sofia?" She inquired me not caring about the fact that her nephews were seemingly baffled by her actions.

"I-uh-I don't drink but sure. I'll join you," I replied giving her my mega-watt smile.

She gleamed back at me linking our arms as we left the room, the trio still frozen in place.

We walked through the long hallway stopping at a white door with a golden doorknob, she unlocked the door and I came face to face with a gorgeous home office.

I admired how soft and feminine the closed yet vast space looked with the delicate splashes of red matching the black and light grey themed office.

Damn, whoever designed it needed a raise.

"I'd like to get to know you, Sofia, we're going to be family after all," Anastasia declared pulling a flask from one of her drawers taking a sip of the amber liquid.

She reclined in the off-white leather seat behind the desk and gestured for me to do the same.

"S-sure, of course," I stuttered with a hint of anxiousness. New people normally freaked me out if I couldn't read their true intentions.

"Mhm, so, where did you meet my nephews?"

The motherly persona she was attaining fell like a useless mask exposing what had the trio feeling perplexed before.

My confusion cleared out.

Her eyes were hard and hands folded on her chest, the nice facade that she had on not even a second ago, long forgotten.

This family was bipolar but attractive as hell.

"Uh-I-I-uh," I sputtered out not knowing how to answer her.

I mean how the hell was I supposed to answer that?

I thought about saying some crazy shit like 'Oh yeah, so, Nadei was hurt and like the good girl I am. I helped him, fed him, kept him warm. The next morning, Nikolai contacted me to come over and get him but your nephews had other intentions for me. So they kidnapped me, drugged me and threatened me then brought me here to say that I'll love them and have our happily ever after'.

But I didn't.

I swiftly muttered the first thing that came to mind not showing my growing trepidation, and lying straight through my teeth."I met Nadei during a business party, then the others and the rest is history."

"Don't take me to be a fool and listen to your lies, Sofia," she glared and I stiffened in my seat, "Just tell me how you met my nephews and what are your intentions?" She suddenly banged her hands on the desk, brown eyes gleaming with anger.

And in that second I realized that lying to her was of no use. She needed to know and if they were going to hide this from her, then, tough luck. I wasn't.

"They kidnapped me," I held back my tears and gulped, desperately trying to compose myself. I met her furious ones as I accentuated the kidnapping part.

Shaking her head looking shocked and furious.

My nerves glided a notch.

And after a few minutes of silence. She stood up from her seat and leaned over the desk to ask curiously, "Why aren't you trying to run?"

"I tried before but they found me."

Blinking once, twice, trice. She cursed and threw the fancy lamp against the wall, shattering it to pieces. I flinched noticeably fearing for the worst.

Nothing good came from an angry person and I knew to avoid getting in the way. I had too many scars to hide already. Too many scars to feel shameful of having.

Anastasia sighed gripping her hair. "I-I'm sorry for behaving this way but I need to talk to the triplets about something. Make yourself comfortable, αγαπητός. I will return soon," she apologized, a hint of anger and disbelief in her eyes. (dear)

"T-thank you," I met her eyes and offered her a small grateful smile as she hurriedly walked out leaving me alone with my thoughts.

What if she made them take me back home?

What if she managed to convince them to let me go?

With the unending what-ifs, doubts and suspicions clogging my brain. I closed my eyes shut and drifted off to sleep since that was the only thing that I had been doing lately.

Sleeping was peaceful, serene, even. it got you away from your dark life to a better place. To a beautiful trance where the light shone brighter than most and gave you hope that the next day would and might be better.

Even if it was just for a few hours then you would have to wake up from the blissful trance. Knowing that you'd be thrown back you into reality and leaving you to face the darkness that surrounded you.

All alone.

Gods, I just wanted some peace of mind for once.
