Zeke carries the book on our way home. Which is really my way home, and he simply acts like my personal guardian angel.
As soon as we cross the apartment's threshold, Zeke passes the book to his real body and lets his double disappear back to where it came from.
"I'm going to interrogate this book. If it's alive, it may have memory—it might point me towards its creator. Besides, I want to see more of its spells."
I frown. Although I'm concerned about Rose and someone having malicious intentions about her, I feel tense as well. A sense of urgency grabs my heart.
"But what about your research? Won't it distract you?"
Zeke shakes his head. "No. In fact, this might help. You see… I'm afraid I've reached a bottleneck. I am so, so close to the answer… yet so indefinitely far."
