I look at Zeke instead. Unlike me, he watches everything with rapt attention and clear wonder. Glimpses of endless timelines reflect in his onyx eyes.
"This!" he suddenly exclaims, raising his arms in triumph. "This! There's more truth to our world in this sight alone than in a thousand books! How can anyone put it to words at all? There's no language that any human or god knows that can transcribe this!"
He laughs. It's a sound of sheer joy, but when put together with his maniacal expression and the place that surrounds us, it brings me nothing but worry. I hold tighter onto him.
"Zeke! Please, snap out of it," I say. "This isn't the time for fun!"
He quietens down, but doesn't stop smiling. "You are right to be afraid. But I cannot! This is my dream coming through. Don't you understand? Oh, I already know what's going to happen next. My Maya, you will be extremely happy to hear it!"
