The agents approach us with troubled looks on their faces. I tense, expecting more dire news, but they don't come.
Grasshopper rubs his face in his palms and speaks, addressing me and Zeke both.
"The people inside were scared witless… Half of them were sure this was a punishment from their god, and the other half tried to convince themselves it was a blessing. Anyway… I suppose those," he eyed the Ascended trapped within Zeke's grasp, "are the most of them. Aren't you tired of holding them this way? I think we should seal them somewhere until reinforcements arrive."
"I know an acceptable place," Zeke says. "If you will kindly keep all other humans away from me."
Grasshopper claps his hands. "Great! Then we will just have to hunt down whoever else is left in this town. Easy!"
"And then," Jade says, his voice as heavy as the glower he aims at Zeke, "we will talk."
