Chapter 10 - Rest At The Campfire

Everyone finally settled down and now we could rest. Thankfully with Olivia's fire magic, we started a campfire after gathering a bundle of sticks, aligning them neatly together with leaves, grass and other thin objects.

I was growing accustomed to using magic and figuring out how other elements of magic works. You may be wondering why this has any relevance? Well, it's simple; I cleared my mind and linked with my soul to search deep for my magic, but this time I changed my view on the world so I could utilize a different element, and that element ended up being earth magic.

If your view on the world was neutral, unbiased, and impartial, your magic type will be earth. That's how I used it, by having a neutral view on the world, thus conjuring the mana needed to perform earth magic.

Using earth magic, I constructed stone-igloos for everyone. Me and Olivia also created blankets made out of vines, large leafs, and tall grass we found on the hill we were all sleeping on.

Everybody felt safe, not needing to worry about any danger through the night.

Olivia and me weren't gonna sleep though, since we decided to take watch all night, just in case we were being followed by any demons after we escaped.

["Grrr, what a pain! Do I really have to guard all night?"]

Me and Olivia were separated a dozen meters away from each other, guarding each individual side.

I could hear her complaining.

["How do you think I feel?"] I muttered under my voice.

["What did you say, Godfrey?"]

She heard me from all the way over there? How?!? What type of super-hearing did she have?

Olivia marched over towards me, crossing her arms once she stood next to my side, looking directly into my face.

["What do you think I'm gonna do to these demons when they attack us? You're the strongest one here, you know? And you also told me that using this arm-power is a bad idea! I have nothing useful to take them down with!"]

She stomped her foot, pointing at my cheek.

["We should be relying on you!"] She shouted at me.

["Olivia, keep your voice down!"]

I placed my hand over her mouth, muffling her complaints.

["I understand where you're coming from, trust me I really do… but think about it for a second; me and you are the oldest here, and the strongest when compared to the others."]

I tilted my head down and sighed.

["They've been captured by the BlackWing for months, so all their mana is pretty much gone by now, they have nothing left of them anymore, not a single drop."]

Olivia widened her eyes and stared at me for a few seconds, coming to the realization that I was right.

She moved my hand away from her mouth and nodded her head.

["Alright…"] She crossed her arms again, turning the opposite direction from me. ["I suppose you're right, Godfrey… but you know something?"]

I lifted my eyebrow in question, replying, ["What is it?"]

She looked down, timidly, concerning me on what she had to say next.

["You… are the smartest, and most bravest person I've ever met… Godfrey…"]

Oh.

["Through all my years, I never met someone as amazing as you, even through the stories I heard of my father… they don't compare to what you've done for me— I-I mean, for us! T-They don't compare to what you've done for us!"]

Olivia cleared her throat and stood up straight, turning her head around with a small blush on her cheeks.

["Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that, and get it off my chest!"]

She started walking away, but—

["Huh"] She muttered.

I was grabbing her arm, stopping her from leaving momentarily.

["Olivia… thank you."]

I responded to her vaguely… but even vague responses have incredible meaning behind them.

She genuinely made me happy, and I was elated to be one of her friends.

I didn't notice her steaming hot face, until she yanked her arm away from my grip, covering her reddened face.

["D-Don't touch me so nonchalantly!"]

I widened my eyes at first… but then chuckled before nodding.

["Ahahaha, right, sorry about that!"]

She jogged away, still covering her face until she made it back to her position.

Geez, what was wrong with her? I guess it's just Olivia being Olivia.

("W-Why did I do that? Why did I suddenly run away from him? I made my way over there to feel safer… but now I walked back! What's wrong with me?")

Olivia placed her hand on her chest, feeling her heart accelerate.

("I-I never felt this way towards anyone… why is my face so red? Grrr, damn him! Grabbing me so nonchalantly! I should stomp on his face!")

Olivia balled her fists, slamming her foot on the ground, aggressively.

("No, no no no! I'm not gonna let some guy get the best of me! He's just getting into my head! He already beat me in our sparring session, therefore… I'm not gonna let him beat me mentally, either!")

She closed her eyes and started taking deep breaths, in and out.

("Okay… calm down Olivia… this isn't like you! This isn't like you at all!")

She felt her heartbeat slowing down while her body stopped tensing up.

("Okay… I feel so much better now…")

Olivia smiled while nodding her head.

("I got my emotions under control… whew!")

She held out her hand, focusing on her palm specifically.

["That's right… I'm not gonna let Godfrey get the best of me— huh?"]

Olivia paused…

["What the?"]

In the middle of her hand she conjured a mini tornado that spun around in green colors, sucking in most of the fireflies nearby.

["Wind magic? H-How did I conjure wind magic all the sudden? Isn't that only possible when your view on the world is caring, loving, and affectionate? But I don't feel that way at all… so how?"]

She clenched her hand into a fist, dispersing the small tornado.

["Thats odd—"]

Oh Olivia, you clueless girl.

Now that Olivia is gone, I can focus back on my plan. What's my plan, you may ask?

Well, let's start from the basics; the BlackWing is definitely working with some corrupted people in Atlantis City, I already concluded that part, and nothings gonna change my mind about it.

They borrow Atlantis City's technology, that's the reason why I seen lightbulbs and other technological advancements in that dungeon we were captured in.

Now, moving on from that, I need to find a way to tell the nobles and other important figures in Atlantis City on what's happening, but I still have no idea how I'm gonna do that… until now!

Yeah, that's right, I came up with a plan.

The doctor told me that I had more potential than a noble, and it turned out that was true… but if that's the case, I can possibly join Atlantis City, and become a sorcerer.

If I become a sorcerer and show that my potential is the highest out of any member in the sorcerer program, the higher ups will definitely notice me, and they would listen to my words if I make a name out myself.

I have no choice but to join the Sorcerer Discipline Program, and acquire levels, and skills like my father did.

It's the only way to stop the BlackWing, and to prevent them from getting anymore technology from the corrupted members in Atlantis City.

This is gonna be a pain in my ass. So many things happened that I need to worry about, such as protecting everyone here, worrying about demons, and the BlackWing, while also having to deal with my mom once I get back home.

I just need to rest, damnit!

Turning around to face Olivia, I noticed that she wasn't there anymore… wait, where did she go?

I looked left, to right, but was unable to see her.

What's going on? I took my eyes off her for only a couple of minutes!

I moved from my position, quickly jogging to where Olivia previously was—

["Olivia, where are you—"] But I stopped.

She was on the ground… SLEEPING?

["Ah- Olivia…?"] I sighed in relief.

She must've passed out, unable to stay up anymore. Well, I can't blame her, she must have a bedtime curfew, and isn't use to staying up so late.

Looks like I'm on my own here, but of course I wouldn't let her sleep without shelter, so I walked over to Olivia, picking her up, and holding her bridal style.

["Lets get you to bed."] I said with a smile.

Holding Olivia in my arms, I made my way to one of the stone-igloos, inching my way inside, and placing her on the blanket we created.

She was sound asleep.

I bet not even a thunderstorm could wake her up right now.

I just hope she doesn't get mad at me for touching her when she gets up.
