"Mom, she's getting a divorce" These very words did the magic that Shane wanted on Sydney as she stopped in her footsteps, slowly turning toward him with a frozen unexplainable look on her face.
"I know you don't want anything to do with them but you should at least know that they are separating soon" Shane continued, realizing he now has completely gotten Sydney's undivided attention.
"I'll be taking my leave now and I promise never to show up like this to you again. It's obvious you don't like it when I'm around" Shane made a promise and tried leaving but abruptly stopped when Sydney grabbed him by the arm, then dragged him out of the shop herself to figure out if he was lying to her or not.
"What do you mean by that? Why is Mom getting a divorce from Dad?" Sydney shot the questions to Shane the moment she was outside the shop with him.
"They've been having real bad issues and arguments lately and it's not about you. Dad still won't stop f**king around with his girlfriends. I think Mom can't take it anymore so she wants to separate from him" Shane explained to Sydney, who didn't know what to believe right now.
Shane's words kind of sound untrue due to her knowing how obsessed and glued their mom is towards their dad, even though he regularly cheats on her. The same way she used to be when it comes to Barry.
But wait a minute, something began to go through Sydney's head, how can she know that Shane is actually telling the truth? And this isn't something he made up to find a way to make her want to go back home with him.
Sydney quickly thought, frowning her face as she asked.
"I don't want that to happen to them but how can I know you are not lying to me, Shane?" She's certainly going to have problems with Shane if he admits that he just made that up, to find a way to drag her ass back home with him without her unyielding stubbornness taking over.
"Ugh," Shane firstly scoffed before raking his hands through his hair before he could say anything else. How can Sydney seriously think? He made up something like that to easily make her change her mind and go back home with him.
"If I wanted you home by all means, I wouldn't have even waited till now to finally show my face to you, Syd" He let Sydney know he didn't make anything up to her. If he wanted her home without him considering how she would feel about it, then he would have done it a very long time ago.
"I'm not lying to you, Mom and Dad are separating soon and I don't imagine you wanting to go back home after letting you know this. I just realized you deserve to know, it's now up to you to decide whether you will go back home to see them before it's too late. You know how much Mom loves Dad, I don't even think she'll get to live nearby when they finally separate from each other"
Shane swallowed a lump down his throat, his heart beating with bitterness. Their mom can be extremely annoying sometimes but she didn't deserve what's happening to her.
The worst part is that she's the one going to feel hurt the most, having been the faithful one throughout the years she has been together with them and their asshole Dad.
"I…I..still can't go back there, I'm sorry" Sydney's voice was weak and trembling to let Shane know this. He is surely going to be mad at her, but what is she supposed to do? Head back home after being away from it for years now and with a pup? None of her family members are ever going to accept that.
Shane sighed, disappointed by Sydney still choosing this place over her home. Family should be the most important thing to someone in life, right? However, his little sister isn't choosing that.
"Sydney, don't you get it? When Mom separates from Dad. It's going to hurt her a lot she's going to want to go to a place so far away from him. A place she won't ever have to see him again, a place none of us would be able to find her"
Shane held Sydney by the shoulder, his eyes piercing directly into hers as if he could see through this new unknown soul of hers, which had turned stone-cold to be able to melt it back to the old lovely soul of the Sydney he used to know.
"That's the same thing I did when Barry left but you were still able to find me, Shane, even though I tried to hide perfectly like a ghost. So you shouldn't worry about mom, wherever she goes, I'm pretty sure you would be able to find her as long as you are desperate to"
The way Sydney said those words without blinking or showing any emotions to Shane unlike yesterday he showed his face to her, just made him know she had changed so much more than he had thought. She looks so cold, just because she acted nice to him the other day doesn't mean she would do the same today.
What was he even thinking?
"This isn't about Barry, Syd. I'm talking about Mom and…" Shane was cut short by Sydney, letting him know she got his point but she's not going to do what he wants.
"Dad, I know" Sydney heaved a deep breath, "But I'm still not going back there. I get that you guys are family, you are family to me, Shane, but I have another family right here too now. And I can't leave them, I'm sorry"
Sydney apologized, knowing she just hurt Shane's feelings to the greatest extent, but there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. "Syd, you don't have to do this" She heard Shane say to her with her back turned on him.
"Things changed a lot since you left and you don't have to worry about not being welcome back home with Roman whenever you decide to come back. I just want you to seize this chance and make things right with Mom one more time, it'll be worth it, I promise you"
Sydney almost let a tear drop off her face, if there was any member of her family that wanted the ultimate best for her. It's no one else other than Shane. He had always been different and being his best friend back in those days was among the best things that ever happened to her.
"I'm sorry, Shane. But going back there is something I can't do" Sydney still didn't let her emotions get the best of her as her stone-cold heart also didn't let Shane's words make their way through her.
"I hope you still won't let anyone find out I'm here. And you should stop coming around, I'll have the cops waiting the next time I see you"
