February 2005..
Savannah rushed up to her room and shut the door behind her, she sat on the floor and cried.
Everything was going so smoothly, why did it all have to end so quickly.
Suddenly, her phone beeped, it was a message from Debbie. Savannah picked up her phone and checked her chats, Debbie had sent her 5 messages.
" Yeah so what happened after that".
" Hello?"
" What's wrong? Why did you suddenly go offline?"
" Savannah?"
" Did something happen?", Savannah scrolled through all the messages. With leaving the state, Savannah didn't know how she would live without Debbie. Debbie is like a sister to her, the sister she never had. She's been friends with Debbie since childhood, she couldn't just leave everything like that.
" Debbie, I have to tell you something". Savannah sent the text to Debbie. It took some time before Debbie replied.
" What. Is it something important?"
" Yes. I'm moving to another state". Savannah sent the message and waited for Debbie's response. Even after knowing Debbie for so many years, Savannah still couldn't predict her response. Just then, her phone beeped, it was a reply from Debbie.
" What? Why? When? And to where?".
" I know, I also don't want to go but I have to, my mom got a request from ' A Slice Of Heaven Cafè ' and because of that we'll have to move to South Carolina. I'm not sure when we're going but it's anyway after next week".
For some time it showed that Debbie was typing something so Savannah decided to go downstairs. Just then, someone knocked the door, Savannah didn't know who it was so asked, " Who is it?"
" It's me, Adam, Open the door, please".
As annoyed as she was, she opened the door for her brother.
As soon as she opened the door, she walked back to her bed, sat on it and picked up her phone, all the while avoiding Adam's gaze.
" Why are you angry? Is it because we're moving or is it something else?" Adam asked as he slowly walked closer to Savannah's bed.
Savannah didn't answer him but just continued scrolling through her phone. She wanted to know Debbie's reply to her message. She scrolled through and saw a new message from Debbie.
" I'm not sure what to say now, but if it's best for you, I think you should go to South Carolina. I would really miss you but we can still stay in touch". Savannah read the message and switched off her phone. Even if Debbie said it was alright for her to go, she still felt really angry, for who she didn't know, maybe it was her herself, for not being able to do anything about her current situation.
Suddenly, Adam sat next to her and shook her lightly.
" What's wrong Savannah, you know you can tell me". Adam said looking at Savannah warmly.
" Can I really tell you anything?" Savannah said as she turned to look at Adam.
" Yes. You can trust me with anything".
" Okay then, what will you do if you had to leave the home were you grew up, the friend you've cared for like a sister and the person who you like more than anyone in this world". Savannah looked at home with questions in her eyes.
" I'll get used to it. I know it's hard for you to move on but you just have to. You think it's easy for me to just be calm about all this?"
" Yes! Yes I do! You and I aren't the same person. It's so easy for someone like you to just forget everything and move on, but it's not the same for me". Savannah shouted as she stood up abruptly.
" You know I have friends in this city to, you think I'm happy about all this? Well no, I'm not but I just have to act that way," Adam shouted as he stood up to face Savannah, "Look, it's not just hard for you, it's hard for all of us, but, look at the bright side, we'll get to go to a new school, meet new people and start everything afresh in a whole new environment. Now if everything's settled, come down for dinner, it's getting cold, okay?"Adam said with a question look.
" Okay" Savannah said as Adam left her room.
' But what about Nathan?' Savannah thought before sitting on her bed, she hurried to get her phone, she checked her chats and saw that Debbie hadn't sent any new messages so she decided to reply her old one.
" Well, I don't have any other options". Savannah sent the text before placing her phone on her bed and leaving the room.
...
Meanwhile...
After Savannah and Adam left the living room, Amanda sat on the couch with the letter in hand. She didn't know whether to move or to stay. This offer meant a lot to her and it could really help in changing their lives, but, how could she just leave? How could just leave the place were her kids grew up? Is this the right decision to make or should she just turn down the offer?
While lost in thought, Amanda decided on calling Trisha, she could give her good advice on what to do.
Amanda dialed her number and waited, the phone rang for a while before Trisha picked the call.
" Hello?"
" Oh, Amanda, what's wrong? You sound tense".
" Well, actually, I got an offer from A Slice Of Heaven Cafè to work with them. I don't want to turn down the offer because it could really help us but then I'll have to move, what should I do?"
" Calm down Amanda, I know you'll do anything to be able to work there and you've finally gotten that golden opportunity, so what's making you so worried?"
" I know, I'm also very happy to be getting this offer, but I'm worried about the fact that we'll have to move, I mean, where are we going to stay?"
" I think I might have a cousin that can help you".
" What do you mean?"
" You said A Slice Of Heaven Cafè right?"
" Yeah, what's wrong with that?"
" Well, that's in South Carolina and I have a cousin who lives there, he is the landlord of an apartment there, he would surely help".
" Well who's this cousin and where is this apartment, is it close to the Cafè?"
" Don't worry about all that, I'll send you the details".
" Thanks a lot Trisha, I knew you'd help".
" Just be glad I haven't told you the price yet".
" Don't worry about all that". Amanda said as she ended the call.
' Everything's finally falling into place", Amanda thought to herself as a smile formed on her face, " See Daniel, your last wish has been fulfilled". Amanda thought to herself before going to the kitchen to start making dinner.
...
The next day...
Adam woke up with the sun's gaze on his face. He got up from bed scratching his eyes before going to the bathroom.
He walked out of the bathroom a while later fully dressed in a dark green shirt and blue jeans. He picked up his phone and checked the time before coming downstairs.
As usual, Savannah and Amanda were already downstairs before him.
" There he is...". Amanda whispered once she saw him.
" Good morning mom". Adam said as he hugged Amanda.
" Hurry up and take your breakfast, we'll soon be late". Amanda said as she went to the dinning table and started putting a few slices of pancake on a plate.
" Okay mom". Adam said as he went to the dinning table and sat on one of the chairs.
When they were done with their meal, Amanda got her car keys and purse and went out of the house as Adam and Savannah followed her.
As soon as they got in the car, Amanda started it before driving them to school.
Both Adam and Savannah stepped out of the car and waved good bye to Amanda as she drove past. They both went their separate ways in the school building.
During lunch time, Adam sat with his friends as all of them laughed and talked about various things but Adam couldn't concentrate and was lost in thought as he looked at all of them.
" Hey Adam what's wrong, you've been really quite today". David, one of Adam's friends asked.
" Yeah, I also noticed, what's wrong Adam". Brian, one of Adam's friends asked.
" It's just that, I'm going to be moving soon and I really don't want to". Adam said as he turned to look at his food.
" So when are you going to be moving? Anytime this month?" Brian asked.
" I'm not sure, probably next two weeks".
" Well then, why don't we make an attempt to spend as much time with you as we can before you move". David said as he turned to look at Adam.
" That's not a bad idea, let's do it". Adam said as the three of them cheered.
