Chapter 18 - Making memories Pt 2...

February 2005...

After a few hours of studying, Debbie decides to head home.

"Does that mean you're not coming to school tomorrow?" Savannah asked as they came down the stairs.

"I might come to school tomorrow but there's a higher chance I'm not coming. Technically it depends on my mom". Debbie said once they reached the last step.

"Okay then, see you on Monday". Savannah said before she handed Debbie her bag.

Debbie took the bag from Savannah before saying, " Bye", and leaving the house.

Savannah Sighed before she sat on the couch next to Adam.

Not long after, Amanda came down the stairs and stood in front of the two of them before picking up the remote and turned of the TV.

" Mom, why did you do that?"Adam said as he abruptly stood up while Amanda rolled her eyes.

" I did that because I want to announce something ", Amanda said while Adam sat back on his seat, " I have decided that we're moving out next week Saturday, so I'm giving the two of you until then to enjoy yourselves to the fullest ".

" Really?" Adam said as soon as Amanda finished her sentence.

" Yeah, sure".

" Does that mean I can get a new phone?" Adam said as he stood up from his seat.

" Ugh!" Amanda said as she walks out of the livingroom and makes her way up the stairs.

" But mom, my birthday isn't far from now and my phone isn't working properly". Adam said as he followed her up the stairs.

As the distinct chatter of Adam and Amanda faded, a thought crossed Savannah's mind, ' a week? I have just a week before we leave this place. Nathan, Debbie, my classmates, my teachers, this house, everything, I have just a week until I start everything afresh in a new place'.

Savannah stood up and rushed to her room. She shut the door behind her. She walked to her bed and sat on it before looking around her bed and drawer for her phone. ' Where could it be?' she thought to herself before something vibrated under her pillow, " Stupid alarm, you have to go off now?" Savannah whispered to herself before she reached out to her pillow and brought out the phone.

" Hey, can you make it to school tomorrow?" Savannah sent the text to Debbie. It took sometime but soon enough, Savannah's phone beeped, signaling a new text. Savannah checked her phone and saw the new text from Debbie.

" I already told you, I'm not sure if I'm coming".

" I have just one week left before we move. My mom told me we're moving next week Saturday. Now do you want to come to school tomorrow?" Savannah sent the text and almost immediately, Debbie replied.

" What! You only have one more week here before we never see each other again?"

" Yeah. But you haven't answered my question".

" I'll try my best, but that's if my mom allows me".

" Don't worry, if you don't come to school tomorrow, we still have the weekend and until next week Saturday ".

" I'm really going to miss you Savannah ".

" Now why are you talking like this", just then, Amanda yelled, " Come downstairs the two of you, dinner is ready", " I've got to go, my mom's calling me for dinner. See you tomorrow ". Savannah sent the text before she dropped her phone on her bed and went downstairs to have her dinner.

The next day...

The morning's gaze shone brightly in Savannahs room, opening her eyes to the early rise of the sun. Suddenly, her alarm rang waking her up from her slumber.

Savannah got up from bed and made her way to the bathroom. After a few minutes, she walked out of the bathroom, fully dressed in a white dress. She then sat down on her dressing mirror.

For some reason, today felt really special to Savannah, maybe it was because she only had 7 days before they move. Savannah did her hair before grabbing her jean jacket from the hanger and making her way to her bed. She checked her phone for a while and saw that Debbie replied to her message.

"I'm saying all this because we've been friends for 5 years now, and you saying you're suddenly leaving is weird, like, I really won't want to loose you as a friend, maybe because you're literally my only friend. Bye, see you on Tomorrow". After reading the text, Savannah replied with...

"Yeah, I'll miss you too. You're a really important aspect of my life, and without you there, things would feel different". Savannah sent the text before making her way downstairs. As soon as she came down, she took her shoes from where she kept them the night before and wore them.

"Good morning mom". She greeted as soon as she reached the dinning table.

"Good morning dear", Amanda said as the two of them hugged," Come, sit, what would you like to have?" Amanda said after their hug.

"No, it's fine. It's already getting late anyways". Savannah said and just then her phone beeped. She checked it and saw a new message from Debbie.

"I just hope this week would be as memorable as a whole month with you".

"Why are you making me feel like we'll never see each other again? Anyways, bye, see you at school".

" Where is this boy," Amanda whispered to herself before she turned to Savannah, " What are you doing? Come let's go to the car, he'll meet us there". Amanda said before she grabbed Savannah's hand and dragged her outside.

Just then, Adam came down the stairs, " Mom? Savannah?" He called out but no one answered. Just then, the sound of a car starting was heard.

" Wait!" Adam screamed before he ran out of the house and entered the car.

" Who are you texting?" Adam asked after the car started moving.

" None of your business". Savannah bluntly replied with her eyes still fixated on her phone.

" Oh! You're texting that girl Debbie right?"

Savannah stopped texting and turned to look at Adam before saying, "Yeah, and so?"

" Nothing, it's just that, why won't you be chatting with her since she's the only contact on your phone".

" What! How many contacts are on your phone?"

" Ugh, like, half the boys in our class".

" How many exactly?"

" Well...Ugh, you know what, forget it". Adam said as Savannah chuckled. Suddenly, the car stopped, " We're here", Amanda said as the two of them got out of the car, "Bye, have a good day". Amanda waved at them and the two of them waved back.

" Yay", Savannah and Debbie said in unison once Savannah reached the hallway.

"I've been waiting for you for so long, why are you so late?"

" Don't blame me, blame the person that spends an hour in the bathroom, combing his hair to look more " attractive "".

"Well, you better hurry up or we're gonna be late for class". Debbie said, trying to drag Savannah but Savannah stops her.

" Why are we going so early, we still have 10 minutes before class starts, and besides, I haven't even taken my books out yet". Savannah said as she opens her locker.

" Okay fine, hurry up, I'll wait for you".

After a few minutes, Savannah closed her locker and said, " Okay now...Can we go?"

" Yes". Debbie said before the two of them made their way to class.

...

As soon as the bell rang, all the students rushed out of the class. Savannah and Debbie kept their books in their lockers before making their way to the cafeteria.

"Okay now spill the beans". Debbie said once they reached their table.

"Spill what beans?"

"Spill the beans on why you got dressed up today, I mean, you rarely ever wear dresses".

" I... I'm not sure. I just thought maybe I should try something different, I mean, this dress has been in my wardrobe for over a year now and I've only worn it like twice".

"Oh, okay. I was thinking, maybe we should go out, like after school or something ". Debbie said after she finished her food.

" Yeah, sure. I'm probably not going to do anything important once I get home anyways".

" But to where?"

" I don't know, you're the one who suggested it, and besides, it's not like as if there's any interesting place in this town. The only two places that are actually worth going is the mall and the park. And in the mall, everything there is too expensive while the park is filled with old people ". Savannah said before taking a sip from her juice.

Debbie sighed before picking her bottle from the table and taking a small sip of water".Okay so, what do we do".

"I'm not sure, maybe you can come to my house".

"And do what there? I suggest we go to the park, we will be able to relax a bit".

" Okay fine, we'll go to the park", Savannah said before she took the last bite from her sandwich, " Finally", Savannah said as she abruptly stood up, " I'm done with my food, can we go to class now?" Savannah asked as she turned to look at Debbie.

" No way, the bell hasn't even rung yet", Debbie said before she took a peek at her watch, "It still remains 10 minutes before class starts, why do we have to go early?" Debbie said as she slumped back at her chair.

" You're the same person that dragged me to class this 10 minutes early this morning?"

" Yeah but, then I had energy, now I no longer have energy".

"Is that so", Savannah said before she grabbed Debbie's arm and pulled her towards her.

" Hey, wait". Debbie said as she tried to stop Savannah but Savannah didn't budge, instead she dragged Debbie to class.

...

After a few hours, the bell rang which announced the end of the school day.

" Oh my goodness. Why does every school day have to end with an assignment ?" Savannah said as her and Debbie made their way to their lockers.

" Well at least be happy that he only gave us 5 questions instead of 10". After taking their books from their lockers and putting it in their bags, they made their outside.

" So, how are we going to the park?" Debbie said once they reached the playground.

" I'll call my mom to pick us up and drop us at the park".

"And I'll call my mom to let her know that your mom will be picking me up".

"Okay then". Savannah said as she brought her phone out from her bag and dailed her mom's number while Debbie went somewhere else to call her mom. The phone rang for a while before Amanda answered it.

" Hello?" Savannah said once the call was answered .

" I'm listening , what is it?"

"Uhm, actually I need a favour from you". Savannah said in a shaky voice.

"What is it?"

" Well ...Debbie and I want to go to the park, so I was wondering if you could drop us there".

" Did Debbie's mom agree to it?"

"Debbie's on a call with her", Just then, Debbie rushed to meet Savannah," Yes, she did".

"What about your brother, what is he doing?"

"He's playing football".

"Okay, I'll be there in a while". Amanda said before she cut the call.

Debbie and Savannah both jumped in excitement once the call ended.

...

After about 30 minutes of waiting, Amanda's car pulled out outside the school gate.

" Finally". Savannah whispered to herself before she picked up her bag and made her way to the car.

The two of the sat at the backseat of the car while Adam sat at the front seat. After a few minutes, they reached the park.

Savannah and Debbie got out of the car while Adam and Amanda stayed in the car.

"Okay, so, what did we plan to do here?" Savannah said as they made their way to a free bench.

" I'm not sure, maybe we should just sit and talk for a while".

"Okay, maybe it would have been for fun if Nathan joined us". Savannah said once they sat on the bench.

"What's your deal with Nathan?"

" Nothing, it's just sad that I might never see him again".

"Okay don't say that, you will see him again, one day in the future". Debbie said as the two of them laughed...
