Chapter 1 - NEW NEIGHBORHOOD.

It was a peaceful neighborhood, Hailey observed as they pulled up the driveway. They moved again and she wasn't in any way excited about it, well there was nothing to be excited about. They moved a lot because of her father's job but this wasn't the case. She was lost in her thoughts until her mum said something.

" We're here", she said as excited as she could be.

Hailey looked at her mum with a face void of any expression. She knew it was hard for her to move when the actual pain was within her. She got out of the car and Ken, her younger brother, jumped down his eyes fixated on his video games. Hailey sighed with relief as her mum snatched the game from his hands. He pouted and that was it, he knew he couldn't do anything and was used to it already. He was obsessed just like most kids his age.

The house was good with lovely views and a cute garden as her mum said. Hailey opened her windows and saw the house next to theirs, it was huge and probably has a pool. She took her eyes off the window after scanning her new environment and quietly unpacked. Suddenly she stood up and ran down the stairs.

"mum.... mum, did you see my textbooks?", she asked wide-eyed.

Her mum nodded towards a corner and she was relieved. She thought it was forgotten because she knew she won't bear it. Her favorite novels and some intriguing new ones were packed along with it and she can't imagine it being left behind.

Evening came and someone knocked on the door. It was opened and a woman stood with an unconcerned girl behind her. She held something. Cake!! Hailey loved cakes but Ken was a worshipper. Just as she thought, Ken was already behind her probably fantasizing on how he'd eat it in large portions.

"Good evening, I'm Laura Ford and this is my daughter Ellie", she motioned towards her and she gave a slight bow. "We live across the street and I made a cake to welcome you to the neighborhood", she wore a big smile and handed the cake.

"Thank you so much Mrs. Laura, I'm Susan stones and this is Hailey and Ken". "You can join us as we're about to have dinner ", she continued.

"Thank you but I have plans with my daughter, maybe next time.... please call me Laura."

"I'm so happy about the cake, thank you once again Laura. " "Have a goodnight "

"You too Susan, see you around " , she said and headed off.

Hailey smiled as she kept the cake on the dining table and Ken was already impatient. She noticed it and told him to have dinner first whilst making fun faces at him.

After dinner, Hailey went up to her room and sat on her bed thinking about school and how their life would turn out here. Just like in the movies she wanted her life to be super fun and romantically engaged whenever they moved, but it was always dull and she cared less. Just then a hot boy knocked on her window and climbed in, he told her that he saw her when they pulled in and that she was so hot. She smiled to the boy and walked up to him trailing her fingers down his chest. Losing control by her touch, he pulled her to him and muttered some inaudible sounds. He tilted his head and she closed her eyes as he kis....

"Hailey", her mum peeked into her door shattering her daydream.

"Urrgh.... mum could you at least knock, you scared me", she groaned. She wasn't scared, she was angry that the hot boy didn't get to kiss her before the interruption.

"I did knock Hailey", she said and made her way to her bed. " Ken has slept.... how are you feeling?" she asked not sure what to say.

"I'm fine mum". It was like a tradition whenever they moved or something, where her mum always wants to have this chat to keep everything in check. She already knew what was coming next.

"We'll love this place and I...."

"....bet the school will be nice", she completed for her mum and they laughed.

She hugged her mum as she spread out her arms, comforting each other. She loved her mum and that was all she needed, she told herself completely removing her dad from the picture.

" Goodnight baby", she said and kissed her forehead.

"Goodnight honey", Hailey said and gave her a hearty smile. They always said lovey-dovey goodnights' to each other like lovers, yes, they loved each other.

She couldn't sleep so she opened her laptop to watch movies. She scrolled not knowing what to pick. She mostly had sci-fi and horror movies but she didn't feel like watching any of them. She wanted to watch a romantic movie and she searched and finally saw one.... 'through my window'. She never loved someone, well have not gotten the chance to. The movie had heated scenes and she felt a little wet when she was done.

Just as she closed her laptop to sleep she heard some noise. It was from across the streets. She rushed down the stairs and found her mum looking through the window. It was at Laura's, probably some burglars broke in and ended up shooting Max, Laura's husband. The Police was already there and an ambulance took Max. Laura locked up and went to the hospital with Ellie.

They went up to their rooms as everywhere was dead silent again. The next morning, the Fords came back and Susan went to meet her.

"Laura", Susan called.

"They shot him", Laura sobbed as she hugged Susan.

"It's okay he'll be fine", she comforted her.

"Where is Ellie?", Hailey asked and she was directed to her room. She knocked and came in and saw her lying on her bed facing the wall.

"Are you okay, Ellie?", she asked and punched herself with her mind for asking such question, of course she wasn't okay. But Ellie didn't talk. "He'll be fine Ellie", she finally said and left.

Laura told Susan about the expensive diamond jewelry set they had.

"It was a heirloom", Laura explained.

" I think you should move it, they'd keep making an attempt to have it you know."

" I don't know where to take it and they won't know it has been moved, all I can do now is strengthen security".

Laura stayed with her as she made her plans and she gave her suggestions. Hailey picked one of her novel as she lay on her bed, "another long Saturday", she said quietly to herself.
