"My goddess," Gia sniffled, wiping a stray tear that escaped. "This is what I need to ask you."
Afina, still shaken by her friend's uncharacteristic display of emotion, offered a shaky smile. "Anything, Gia. You know I'd do anything for you."
Gia hesitated, her lower lip trembling slightly. "Do you — do you know how much I care for Prince Cargan?"
Afina's brow furrowed. The question felt oddly specific and it sent shivers down her spine. "Of course," she replied cautiously. "You've always been telling me about your admiration for him and how he saved your family."
Gia's grip on her hands tightened. "It's more than you think, my goddess," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I love him. Deeply, truly love him."
