Chapter 5 - unexpected proposal

Adrien's POV:

I was engrossed in my work, signing documents and reviewing papers, when Lucas burst into my office without knocking. "I told you to knock before coming in, next time you barge in, you'll have a bullet in your head," I warned, not even glancing up at him.

"I'm sorry, but Mr. Murray just called, requesting a meeting with you," Lucas said, awaiting my response.

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Mr. Murray, the head of the second-largest mafia, wanted to meet with me? I had the largest mafia, but I was curious about his intentions. "When is he coming?" I asked, continuing my paperwork.

Lucas hesitated, "He's already here."

My gaze snapped to his, anger rising. "Why am I just finding out now?" I demanded, my voice firm.

Lucas remained silent, knowing better than to provoke me. I gestured for him to leave, and he quickly exited. I took a deep breath and headed to the living room, where Mr. Murray awaited.

"Ah, Adrien, finally," he said, standing up and approaching me. "I'm sorry for keeping you," I said, extending my hand, but he bypassed it and pulled me into a hug. "You're my future son-in-law; shaking hands would be too formal," he said, releasing me.

Future son-in-law? Was this a joke? "I'm here for a business proposal," he continued. "I want to merge our mafias, and I think you should marry my daughter." He returned to his seat, leaving me stunned.

"Mr. Murray, I'm not ready for marriage or any relationship," I said firmly.

"Please, call me Ethan," he said, his eyes pleading. "Think about it, Adrien. Our combined power would be unstoppable. And she's already in love with you, so you have nothing to worry about."

I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "How soon can she arrive?" I asked, hoping I wouldn't regret this decision.

"She's in Miami now, but she won't leave unless you get her," he said, his desperation evident.

This man's daughter must be quite something. "I'll send Lucas to get her. I have a business meeting, and I'll let him discuss the wedding details with you," I said, trying to sound calm.

With that, I left the living room, wondering what I had just gotten myself into. Lucas already had all the information about the girl, so I didn't need to worry about that. The maids had finished packing, and we decided to leave immediately to get settled.

As we arrived at the airport, a driver awaited us, and we headed to the hotel. My meeting was scheduled for 8 pm, and I decided to rest until then. Lucas woke me up, and I rushed to get ready, still fuming that he hadn't woken me earlier.

We arrived at the meeting location, but no one was there. A text message informed me that the meeting had been rescheduled. I called Lucas, telling him to bring the girl directly to the airport; I didn't want to spend another day in Miami.

At 10:34 pm, Lucas finally arrived with an unconscious girl on his shoulder. I was livid. "Lucas, what the hell? Why is she unconscious?" I shouted.

He shrugged. "She kept asking questions, and I got tired of answering."

I paced, furious. "You knocked her out, and she's still unconscious? It's been an hour since the plane took off!"

Lucas apologized, but I was beyond reason. I stormed away, heading to her room. Opening the door, I found her lying there, and my anger momentarily subsided. She was stunning – around 5'6" with dark skin, black curly hair, and a curvaceous figure. This was going to be interesting.
