Chapter 7 - Bad alpha

|The wolf|

Fear is something I'm used too. The only people who don't show it are the gods. Mostly because they're assholes, and other times because they like me for my dominant, and bloody trail. I'm not a very good God. I've been prayed too countless of times and ignored every single one of them. Which is possibly why I was summoned by force and bribed into doing it. Now I have the mate I was promised years ago.

Now I'm worried that my once proud past might now frighten her. She already turns into a still statue whenever I touch her. Or if I'm even in close proximity, and I've had her for only a half day. She's like everyone else. She's afraid I'll kill her. Perhaps this mate thing is not for me.

Yet my heart selfishly refuses to let me think of setting her free. I've been too alone for so fucking long. All I want is a woman to share my riches with. A woman to call my own. The amount of wolves who have come to me to bless their marriage is ridiculous. Especially when I'm not in charge of that. My dear friend is.

My half sister, the goddess of the moon. She bless the wolves with their lovers, while I bless them with strength and other things but like I said, I did a piss job at that because people annoyed the fuck out of me.

Oh dear wolf god, please help me deflect the temptation of sleeping with my husband's brother.

It's like they're not only useless, but they focus on the wrong things too. Praying for more money, for help in adultery rather than praying for good health or help with their battles.

Looking at Adele, I thought back to the jewelries the old woman had given me. The ones I was to give to my partner. The person who was supposed to love. Yet, with her laying on the medic bed undergoing examinations, I can't help thinking about how I'm going to fail at this. How can I convince her that I won't hurt her? That I love my mate.

If she can just open her eyes and see that I'm not all this monstrous, I won't have to threaten to lock her in my cave forever.

But what do I know about love? I'm impatient. I have zero tolerance for people. Man, woman, or child. I want her to bare my mark, and have my spawn.

I cringed, okay I can see exactly how I'm going to fuck this up. She doesn't even want to be in the same bed with me, exactly how do I plan to convince her to have my child?

This is why my half sister is in charge of mates.

Adele, what a lovely name. But nothing was lovelier than the woman it was connected too. When I first caught the scent of intruders. It had been something fruity, and wildly addictive, then something filthy. The filth came from the human men.

I was yet to tell my people that I brought and enemy into our territory. They definitely won't take it well.

Angelica must think she's a different kind of monster if she can see her. It hasn't clicked that Adele is human.

Though her eyes her blue and green. The green gets brighter when she's surprised. Somehow I don't think she even knows how to use her powers. Which is weird. Since I've lost good wolves to people like her.

The black blood bearers. It's a fucking curse that has only been a myth. Humans who have done something to grab the attention of the gods that they're smitted with a plague. A curse that allows them to see the undead. To see the supernatural world.

But when you look at her, with her cream colored skin, her full lips and perfect body, you can tell she would be the first to die in a war.

I'll need to contact the old woman. There's just something wrong about the arrangements the humans have.

Also, speaking of her body, she's lattered in scars. I don't have any because they heal up. Nothing can truly hurt or kill a god. But Adele has hole poked into her arms, she really looked sick the night before. Loss of blood maybe?

Her ankles had angry red lines around it, and so did her wrist. Her back had what looked like whipping marks. I would have preferred to be the scarred one among the two of us, but instead it's her.

How did she end up with those?

Angelica noticed them too. She turned to give me a frightful look, and for the first time, I felt the need to clear my name. Usually when I'm given this look that something cruel happened to one of the wolves and they believe I did it. I wouldn't deny it or even bother to ask for more details.

I'd just growl, and they were silenced. But the injured person would clear my name for me. Claiming they were either attacked, or hit by their partner. Which meant I was given looks that told me to help.

Like you can't slap your partner back if they hit you?

"I didn't-" I started and red finished.

"These aren't from him. The men who were chasing me….. I don't feel like talking about it."

Angelica turned back, her lips thinned out. "Were they humans?"

My mate looked to me for help, but I'm not sure what she wants me to say.

"Yeah."

Angelica sighed. "Horrible creatures. Well then I'm glad you're the king's mate. They always piss themselves when they see him so this will never happen again. I'll give you some herbs so they'll start healing. And some oil."

"And they'll go away completely?"

"Yeah. They're old scars, in a day or too they should be fine. But the ankle, the poison is made to kill a person. It'll take a week for you to start walking, but the side effects it has on your body could take months. You could just pass out. You could cough out blood at some point. Your heart could even stop."

Red took this information, her face growing into a deep grimace. My heart ran rampant. This is my fault. Not really, it was never my intention but she's hurt because of a poison I made. Yeah, I can see this going so well. I thought dryly.

"Wow, it's that bad? Is that why i feel like sleeping?"

Angelica laughed. "Effects of the medication. You should rest. And maybe change from the night gown next time so you do have freeze."

Red quickly covered her breast when Angelica pointed to her nipples pushing the strength of the fabric. I hadn't even noticed. I haven't taken the time to observe her beauty because it would make me want things. I can't afford to do that now. Not when things are like this and she looks like she's going through hell.

"Thanks, I'll uh keep that in mind."

"Are we done here?" I asked, trying to make my tone as soft as possible. I'm not sure it worked.

"Yes, but may I speak to you privately?"

I nodded, and stepped out of the room. This place is too small for me. That's why I chose a cave far from the town. I can be in tune with my animalistic nature.

"What's wrong?"

"Your mate is not one of us." Angelica pointed out. She was threading over her words. Good, because I will snap her neck if she uttered one bad word about my mate.

I truly am the definition of you-get-what-you-get-and-you-don't-get-upset.

"I'm aware."

She sighs, and rubs her temple. "I don't need to tell you to be careful with her around the other wolves. They're not particularly kind to people who look like her."

The difference between us wolves in our mortal forms are the tribal marks, sharp teeth, and claws. The immense strength makes it easy to differentiate us from a human when we look like this.

I get what she's saying. But who would dare to do something bad to my mate? I am not above burning- what the? Okay, I'm not that possessive.

That vision comes back to mind as my thoughts drifted to what I was about to say. I'm not above burning a town I worked so hard to build all for the sake of my mate?

I need to think this carefully. That better not be the reason for that vision. And if it is, then I need to avoid it.

"I know. Anything else?"

"The pokes on her arms are from needles. If I had a good guess I'd say she's been undergoing some test for a while. Test that required needles, and a lot of blood. You should give her those fruits that helps the body produce more blood. It'll do to cleanse her system too."

Yesterday I fed her mostly fruits, and veggies. I should ask her about her preferences in food, meat and more. But also, about why she was running into my forest? She mentioned the old lady. I told no lies, that old woman has an aura to her that I don't exactly trust. She does like me, but that's for the same reason as the gods I used to see.

If red goes to her, she'll likely be tricked into some deal that could cost her her soul.

"I'll ask about those needles. Humans can be very cruel creatures?"

Angelica nodded quickly. She lost her husband to them. But it was his own damn fault.

It happened with those berries, and a whole lot of stupid decisions.

That is in the past, I need to make sure no one finds out so my little red's true identity. I don't want that vision to become a harsh reality. Because if it came down to her or them, I will make the irrational decision.
