Prince Koda's POV
I was leaning against a tree waiting for Sunny and Lyria to come back, letting my mind wander.
Just two more days and Lyria will be going home with me. I know the trip will be hard on her but I can't wait to introduce her to my family and let her see my home and maybe convince her to live with me.
I know she doesn't trust easily so she'll be more comfortable with me anyways.
'Will I be able to hold back for three years?'
I wonder if there are secret techniques I could use to be in more control of myself. I have to protect her at all costs but how do I protect her from me?
My thoughts were running wild for a while now when I catch on to a lot of battle howls and roars.
'What is going on?'
One of my men that I put here secretly ran up to me.
"Your Highness, the valley is being attacked we must leave now or we'll have problems leaving later."
"I have to wait here for Lyria." Koda stubbornly insisted.
"Forgive me for saying this but in cases like this females, young, and old are supposed to go to a safe place till the fighting is over. Do you really think she's going to want to leave if a family member is dead? And since she's a healer she's going to be needed here to take care of her people when all the fighting is over. If she's really as you described her to be, she's going to want to stay."
What he said made sense but I still wanted to make sure she was ok.
"I just want to see her one more time then."
"Where will you go, how will you find her? It will take too long and we must really be going your highness."
My heart felt heavy knowing I was leaving her behind, but I still have time, and next year I will defiantly take her with me.
These are the words I used to convince myself anyways.
We ran to the top of the mountains where I knew the rest of my men were waiting.
There is a secret way to get past the deadly plants that guarded the valley and that was the blood of a royal.
Koda cut his hand and the men that came in with him (that eventually showed up and followed behind the prince) and himself went past the plants.
Koda noticed the plants seemed to be wilting and not their firey self.
'Why are they like this?'
Just as they were making their way out of the deadly plants the ground beneath them started to shake, making most of them lose their balance.
"It seems to be an earthquake, your highness."
"How is that possible?"
"I'm not sure sir but we must get off the edge of the mountain quickly."
Thick clouds of smoke came rolling down the mountain. The air became thick with smoke making it difficult the breath, smell, or hear. What I could make out were large balls of flames falling from the sky.
"Lyria!" She is still in there with all of this going on I must go back and get her out.
"LYRIA!" I screamed her name out this time turning around to go back for her.
One of the guards I was traveling with grabbed my arm and was dragging me the other way as I fought against him.
"Our job is to protect you your highness and right now I believe that's a volcano that's about to explode. Even if you went back in you won't last long before you burn to death. She has her family that will look out for her, so let's get out of here safely first then go look around to see if we can find her."
I can't focus. She's not my spouse but the thought that she could be in danger has me terrified. I need to find her.
I start to fight against the guard when two others show up the try to pull me back. And not even they could hold me back. Even with the smoke and fire everywhere, I still fought against them to go back to the valley.
I felt a sharp pain on my neck and everything went black.
