Chapter 8 - Inner demons

"He really did that?"

"Yeah Chloe but I don't get it, I'm meant to be mad at him, I'm meant to hate him, I meant to despise his presence.. Right?"

"But instead its like I want to see him every day like I- I don't even know what to feel anymore" Avery sighed

Chloe had a contoured expression as if thinking but Avery couldn't deal with the fact that she had to dump her problems on Chloe all the time. It made it seem like she was playing the victim and Chloe didn't have any better thing to do than listen to her ramble.

"You know what, forget it."  "By the way, there's this guy, Kayden. You know him?"

"Wait, Kayden Mc coy?"

"Yeah that's him. I think he's into you" Avery smirked

"W-well how do you know?"

"Is that a stutter I hear" Avery teased and her friend turn beet root red which sent Avery doubling over in laughter.

"Hey what's so funny?" Tyler popped out of nowhere along with jack.

Tyler and jack met Avery at a fight. Well actually they moved to help her when they thought she couldn't handle herself but how wrong they were when they saw her take out four guys on her own. From then on it was like a mutual connection of badass brutality and a sick sense of humour.

Tyler had blonde hair,  blue eyes and was about six foot and jack had sandy brown hair, green eyes and was the same height with Tyler. And no one could really deny how good looking they both were making Avery wonder if everyone here had good genes.

"Oh nothing it's just that Chloe here has a little crush on Kayden" Avery snickered watching Chloe eyes narrow at her while her face became even redder. Ha!

"Wait Mc coy?" Jack shot up an eyebrow

"Yeah, how does every one know him?" Avery questioned quite curious

"The dude throws sick parties" Tyler shrugged. His British accent prominent

"Well he didn't look like the type to throw parties when I spoke to him. I mean he was stuttering like a broken record"

The table fell silent for about three seconds before everyone erupted in laughter.

Avery was taken aback by their reactions.

"The dude- the dude's a fucking jerk, a ruthless monster so he probably did that to get your attention." Jack said between laughs. "Besides the only reason everyone and anyone likes him is because of his parties.

Avery furrowed her eye brows and looked to Chloe who was still blushing and looked lost in thought. She bet her mind wasn't even on earth anymore.

"Hey I heard that he's throwing a party tonight though, you guys have to come" Tyler said all excited.

She was about to refuse cause she really didn't feel like it but when she looked up she was met with two pouting faces of Chloe and Tyler and she cringed. Her friends were annoying but she had to give it to them that they had cute pouty faces.

She wasn't still going to give in to them though but they had a back up plan. Jack.

Jack looked down for a moment and then up at her and she felt tears well up in her eyes. She couldn't look away. He was too fucking cute. 'Be strong Ave, be strong' she chanted in her head but then his lip wobbled.

Fuck my life she thought

"Fine" she let out an exaggerated sigh

"I knew you wouldn't resist me A, I'm just too cute." Avery scowled but he wasn't wrong, his face could make the coldest of hearts melt.

And then their food arrived. One of the things the guys and her shared. Their love for food.

Thump. Thump

Thump thump

Pah

Those were the only sounds that could be heard in the gym as the older boy punched, kicked and man handled the punching bag in front of him, letting out all his pent up anger while muttering curse words and incoherent words into the air.

He felt his blood boil and his brain throb, and with the rate his heart was beating he thought that he would burst any moment from now if he didn't let his frustration out. Too bad this poor punching bag had to suffer it.

He'd woke up this morning with a weird feeling in his gut and checked his phone for unread messages. Scrolling up his eyes landed on an unknown number, furrowing his brows, he opened it. And the moment he did, he wished he hadn't.

A powerful punch was sent to the middle of the bag that hung from the ceiling.

He wished he had just ignored that stupid text.

Another blow.

The letters of the text were engraved in the walls of his mind as if he memorized every word: hey son, its your mother..

An aggressive kick was thrown to the side of bag.

...I'm sorry for all those years that I haven't been there for you...

A jab and another kick.

..I know I made a mistake and I would love to apologize in person but I just didn't think I would be able to look you in eyes after what I did...

A head butt.

...Please find it in your heart to forgive me and come spend this spring break with me and we can talk and spend time together just like old times.

Punch after punch after punch. His knuckles were bleeding but he was unfeeling. The only thing he felt was the rage coursing through his veins and the tugging of his heart as he recalled the last words:

...I miss you Asherón,

Love. Claire (your mother)♥

Your mother.

A powerful punch was given and the sound of leather ripping apart was heard before the bag went flying across the room, torn and bruised.

He was panting.

She couldn't do this. Not after everything she put me through. He thought. Not now. Not ever.

Why did she all of a sudden want to become a better person, a better woman, a better 'mother'.

The word 'mother' being used in his mind sent a single tear drop run freely down his cheek and he hurriedly wiped it away.

He packed up getting ready to go home and not even bothering to wipe the blood of his knuckles yet. He needed comfort, closure. Anything.

And yet he found himself thinking of a certain someone's brown eyes, wishing he would get lost in the cold warmness of her orbs.

What are you doing to me princess...
