Slate received the last report from his team and was proud of the progress. He really thought things would take longer. When Stafford finished his clean up, Slate prepared to make a world wide announcement. He sat in a television station waiting for the count down. "Three, two, and then the director pointed at him."
"Citizens of this world, I am Slate Cline, your new ruler." (He couldn't say he was king because he wasn't.) "We, dragons, have been around since the beginning of time. We stood in the background and watched you, humans, destroy and rebuild everything over and over again. When one of our kind fell from the sky because of the damage you have done to the atmosphere, we became fed up. We have taken over. We will control the world from now on. We have cleaned up the nastiness that you have left all over this once beautiful planet. We have removed all of the uncouth leaders and criminals as well. Unless one of you decides to try to ruin things again, humans have the chance to start over. We will be vigilant in our position of power and you can live your lives not wanting for anything. This is a great opportunity for all of you. I hope you take it."
He ended his speech and the news began analyzing what he said.
"So, you heard it here. Dragons rule the world. They have given the world a chance to live in a utopia. The question now is will the world accept the opportunity. I'm, Gene McCain, at CNN News.
All over the world, news reports went out showing the improvements that had been made. They discussed the changes in health, poverty, and quality of life. Teal lead the propaganda machine, feeding it with a picture of a glorious world filled with everything wonderful.
It was great. The only problem was that humans had been taught to believe that if something seems too good, it usually is. The humans were having a hard time accepting utopia.
Meanwhile, Sébastien brought the leaders of the United States and Canada together at a television station with Steve Harvey, Oprah, Dr. Phil, and Ellen Degeneres to discuss the changes and challenges that were happening. "So Sébastien, you say that the dragons have been around and mingling with us since forever. Why are we just now seeing you?" Oprah asked.
"Yes, when one of our kind fell from the sky, we had to step in. Our scientists have discovered that the pollution from factories and war have caused devastating problems that will soon become a problem for humans as well. Our clean up services will straighten the problem and strengthen the atmosphere. We are only visible now because the world's life was at stake."
"Hey, now I don't mind the great cleaning of the world. It is something that needed to be done. I just want to know if the dragons are going to take over and become dictators. I mean, if they are going to become part of the citizenship, cool. " Steve Harvey stated.
Everyone nodded their heads as they heard Steve. "We are already a part of the citizenship, as you say. Several of us back banking systems and own many of the companies the world relies on. Like I said, we are here to assist in the betterment of the world." Sébastien replied.
"Now, I have seen the reports of the clean up the dragons have done and I truly can't find anything wrong in what they have done. I mean, unless cleaning the pollution up is a bad thing, doing away with poverty and hunger is a problem, and providing high quality health care and education is a bad thing, all I see is an upside." Dr. Phil pointed out.
"When Sébastien came to the government with his plans, we only saw good things. Unfortunately, to catch most bad people, covert actions have to happen. I mean, in one week, all of the citizens that were on the wanted lists for both of our countries were apprehended. The prison population was cleared by either investigating them as actually committing the crime they committed and dealt with, committing petty crimes and being able to be reformed, or being falsely accused and set free. I mean, if the world would give things a chance, I can't see things turning out bad." President Thomas Williams said.
"Yes, I agree. The dragons are not taking over. They are working with us to bring health back to the planet. This is a good thing." The Governor General, Sean Miller said.
"We are only here to help. " Sébastien replied.
The show continued like this for a while. Even normal citizens were able to call in and ask questions. The audience was amazed by Sébastien's demeanor and personality. He knew that humans hate to be forced into doing things. There would be resistance to the changes happening but not that much. His next move was to get the schools started. His team was continously looking for resistance and finding ways to handle it before it became a problem. Solar and electric cars became the norm and people were encouraged to do less traveling. Early education took place at home, jobs became more home-based, and homesteading grew exponentially. The point was to get people to stop moving around so they could do away with some of the diseases that had developed over time.
Everything was going to plan. He hated to see his sons struggling. He wanted to help them but he had to let them figure things out themselves. They had to realize that you can't force humans to do what you want. You have to coax them.
