Chapter 10 - How Dare They!

"What do you mean they are not trying to control us?" Calvin asked. "The dragons might have cleaned up the world and made a few things better, but they dictate how much we eat, what we do, and how we live our lives! It's not fair and we should fight for our right to choose."

"Listen, Calvin, I don't know what your problem is but the dragons are not it. I mean, they can't be. If you really have a problem, then go talk to them. They will give you an audience." Shannon said.

"Fine, I will. Someone needs to get these bullies to give us our freedom." Calvin replied. Calvin was one of the humans who believed that if it's too good it must be a trap. "I will not leave without getting to the bottom of this."

"That's your choice. Just go to the mountain and call for the dragon named Slate. He will come and hear your potention. If he agrees, the changes will come. If not, we won't see you again." Shannon giggled and walked away.

Calvin thought about what she said. Was he afraid to go meet the dragon? Even if he was, it had to be done. He liked being able to be an individual and independently live his life. He didn't understand why things had to change this much. He packed a bag and determined that he would go to the mountains the next morning.

The climb wasn't easy but he was determined. Slate saw the little human fighting his way up the mountain and decided to go down and meet him before the man killed himself. "Why are you climbing my mountain? You are going to do harm to yourself. "

"Do you really care? I mean, I am here to speak to Slate. I want to know why all the fun stuff humans were able to do are gone? We can't even farther without permission. We have no independence at all. "

"I am Slate. What things do you want to be able to do?"

"I feel we should be able to eat what we want and as much as we want. We should be able to have the bars, dance clubs, and party when we want. You, dragons, have made living boring and sad."

"Really, so you feel that the reason we have so much rebellion is because we took away the fun in the world?"

"Well, yes. Plus, we don't have any independence. I mean, it feels like we can't use the toilet without permission. Humans need choices and fun."

"I understand. Why don't I make you a chancellor. You will be in charge of suggesting things you humans need so that we can do away with the rebellion. We will start with giving humans back the restaurants and bars. Secondly, we will bring back some more jobs. I understand that humans need a way to feed their drive and will-power."

"Yes. It is necessary for our healthy minds. Men need to feel like men. Right now, we feel bullied. I thank you for listening and for the position. I will do my best to help bring down the rebellion."

"Come with me and we will work out the details. " Slate reached down and picked up Calvin. He carried him to the palace at the top of the mountain. Calvin screamed the entire way. "Don't worry, human. I will not hurt you. I have to equip you so you can be my chancellor."

"I understand but this is scary. I have never flown before."

Slate laughed and continued to the top. Once he reached the top, he put Calvin down and changed into his human form. Calvin stared at him. When Slate noticed, he turned to look at Calvin. "Oh, this must be the first time that you have seen one of us in human form."

"Um, yes, I didn't know you had a human form."

"And you should keep it to yourself. You will have a dragon bodyguard with you from now on. He will be in his human form. You will work with him and he will make sure you don't abuse your newly given power. " Calvin nodded his head and followed Slate into the palace.
