Nathan wasn't lying. Just twenty minutes after her arrival, several people dressed in restaurant waiter uniforms came to Bella's apartment doorstep with warmed boxes containing all sorts of food. Kylie was delighted and applauded after the stream of waiters stopped and left Bella's apartment with plates of food on the table.
"Who is all this for?" asked Bella. "Nathan, you're overreacting."
"Oh, it's not much, Bella. I thought you knew my standards. Hasn't Carter taught you anything about the Wilford men? We're not all 'plain and simple'."
"Yeah, but real men know how to control their egos," Reef commented sarcastically. "Especially for trivial things that could have been done without wasting precious time."
Instead of taking offense, Nathan laughed. "Sure, you're right. The thing is, we're not hicks who are used to working hard, even if we only earn enough to eat. We're used to privilege, and for that we apologize."
