Her eyes darted around to look for Maggie while wondering if she had already planned everything.
She gave Zach another glance and quickly ran away to look for her. She had to make this one of the grandest confessions ever.
Zach shook his head and watched her back with a chuckle, wondering what she was up to again. Ever since she joined them from the day they rescued her with so many other kids from the burning orphanage four years ago, he noticed that she would steal glances at him whenever she thought he was not looking. He didn't take it seriously as he had always received that kind of look from almost every girl around him.
They had eventually gotten closer and even became best friends as she was a social butterfly just like him, even though she was younger by three years.
He broke out of his trance and squinted through the crowd to catch a glimpse of the girl who had already disappeared in the dimly lit room.
"Hey boss, why are you smiling foolishly?" Maggie narrowed her eyes with a smile, trying to hide her fury, she had been watching those two at a corner and saw how they were flirting and Zach smiling like a love-struck fool after Mira left. Her heart burned with jealousy while wondering if Zach had fallen for her too.
She knew Mira was in love with Zach as she had always confided in her about everything. She had even helped her plan her so-called 'surprise confession' as she knew Zach who received attention from so many girls every day would surely reject her.
But this look that Zach was giving Mira now, made her uncomfortable, what if he had fallen for that flimsy orphan, no, she can't let that happen. Mira had always gotten everything and was loved by everyone since they entered the organization and had even gotten close to Zach's little sister, but what about her, she had always been living in Mira's shadow and even her looks were nowhere near hers.
Mira had always been known as the queen in the gang and even carryout her missions meticulously, receiving accolades from everyone including their big boss Carl, but she had always been her sidekick and had to watch bitterly as she received praises from everyone.
If Zach falls for her, she knew Mira would forever be out of her league. No, she can't let that happen. She quickly devised a plan and left to look for Mira before Zach could answer her question.
Zach shook his head and found her behavior weird but shrugged and thought maybe she had drunk too much alcohol.
" Maggie, where have you been. . . is everything ready?" Mira asked anxiously as she spotted her friend from afar.
Maggie plastered a fake smile on her face and skipped to her side." Yes everything's ready. . . but how did you get big boss's permission to use his house.".
" Hehe, it's Lucy that helped me and besides, he's on a business trip," Mira replied cheerfully and picked up the big carton that contains candles." Here help me hold it.". She gave it to Maggie then took out a sparkling necklace from her bag. " See, I'm going to wear this today.".
Zach had gifted her that necklace on her sixteenth birthday, just a few months after she joined the gang. She had carefully kept it hidden and thought today was the perfect day to wear it.
Maggie's jaw almost dropped at the sparkling diamond in front of her. Mira had told her about the necklace but she only thought it was some plain necklace not expecting it to be a pure diamond.
" Mira, do you know what this is?" She asked the naive girl in front of her and Mira shook her head just as she expected.
" Well, it's just a sparkling necklace. . . see how it fits me, " Mira chuckled and put the necklace on her neck before twirling around happily like a child.
Maggie's eyes dimmed as she stared at the girl who looked even more beautiful in a dress paired with the sparkling diamond necklace. Even just at twenty, her figures were perfectly shaped unlike hers. She looked down at her self and anger rose from her heart. Why had Zach bought her an expensive necklace, does he perhaps have feelings for Mira just as she suspected?.
She watched Mira's back who had already taken the candle box and was heading towards Carl's building. Her expression darkened and she followed behind her with clenched fists.
When they reached the building, they headed to the backyard and dropped the box at Carl's swimming pool area then Mira started opening all the boxes they have put there earlier with a smile.
" Maggie, bring that chair closer, not too close to the pool..." Mira said absentmindedly while she was busy spreading the large table with different desserts as she knew Zach like sweets very much.
A few minutes later, Mira sat on the chair, staring at their handiwork with a satisfied smile. The candles glowed brightly under the bright moonlight and their scents mixed with the flavors of the desserts, wafting through the place and giving it a romantic feel.
" Mira, I forgot to bring the chocolate cake.". Maggie looked at her anxiously with a gasp. Thinking about the cake she had purposely left inside Zach's apartment.
"Oh really, wait for me. Lemme go and get it.". Mira stood up with a jerk remembering the cake she had baked so painstakingly.
Maggie watched her back with a smug smile and quickly removed a white substance from her bag, then dropped it inside the wine bottle which was already unwrapped. She recapped it and slightly twirled the bottle to make sure the wine was missed carefully with the drug, then put it down and scoffed." From today onward, let's see how they're going to call you queen again...haha".
Mira returned with the cake and wiped the sweat on her forehead. " Quick, quick sit down. . . let's retouch your makeup. . . I don't want the boss to see you like this." She heard Maggie said with a chuckle and smiled at her gratefully.
